Watched it last night.

1. Brokeback Mountain, Wyoming

2. Herding sheep on horseback

3. That naked plunge into a green mountain river in August—man, I live for stuff like that.
(It actually reminded me of that scene with the mast in "White squall" or that sheer beauty in "the Beach")

4. Roughly:
Yeah, two cowboys lived on a nearby ranch, pretty rough characters. They found the older one beaten to death in a ditch one morning. They were pulling on his junk until it basically ripped off. I wouldn't bet my life my old man wasn't there that night.

5. The scene with Twist's parents

Sure, they could have had their own ranch surrounded by rainbow-colored barbed wire.
You can imagine how that would go.

Brutal pastoralism.

Solid enough movie.

1. Morrissey - On the Streets I Ran:

and when the palmist said:'one thursday you will be dead', i said:'no, not me this cannot be, dear god, take him, take them, take anyone. the still-born, the new-born, the infirm-take anyone. take people from pittsburgh, pennsylvania, just spare me!'

Jesus isn't going to forgive him for that.

It’s bad enough that the musical backdrop for these "drama queen" compositions is so shamelessly cheap—take The Quarry, for example, that overhyped indie (glam) rock. Honestly, the songs are tragic. Come on, Stephen. Stephen, you really are something else. Am I really stuck with "Everyday is like Sunday" being my only decent Morrissey single forever? Fine, I'll admit it, I wasn't paying close enough attention between 1991 and 2004.

stormyviper11 said:On several different occasions, various posters here have insisted that this is the most obnoxious song ever, or at least one of them. Can someone explain to an uneducated guy like me what exactly is wrong with this track that makes it so irritating to you all? Thanks.

I'm right there with them.
Why? Honestly, I can't put my finger on it. It just gives me this nagging, unpleasant sensation—like the smell of stagnant water.
Picture this: I'm sitting in my mom's kitchen, having a massive breakfast, say Saturday around 11 AM, the radio is playing softly in the background, and then...
Suddenly, "Hotel California" comes on. And immediately, I get hit with that "Groundhog Day" syndrome.
To me, "Hotel California" is just grating. Heaven knows it is.

Don't get me wrong, I love hippies.
And I've got nothing against the state of California in North America either.
I can listen to "North American" and "Stairway to Heaven" without any issues at all.

Offtopic. Move over!

Robin Booth, Anahata is just a lifeless, boring record. I liked the cover art and the color photos, sure. I’m all for evolution, but they really missed the mark here. Then again, don't quote me on that—I've never been a huge fan of June of 44 or that whole math rock / post Slint school vibe. I'm not a purist.

Oh, and "Sharks & Sailors" unfortunately wraps up with Seemingly Endless Steamer, and honestly, the title is the only good thing about that track. The singer's emo delivery is so over-the-top it actually makes me cringe every single time.

It's one of my favorites too. Though I don't worship Fugazi quite as much as the "cool indie guy" rules dictate.

I mean, when father MacKaye starts shredding metal riffs on argument.
If you don't respect Fugazi, you're going straight to hell. Amen.

Just let Zak Houdek lounge on the beach.
Give him to Greenpeace and toss him back into the ocean.

😂

There go my PC points.

I can't stand anything overly sweet. I might tolerate things like cranberry, orange, cherry, or apple, but only if they have a serious acidic kick. Anything sugary is just gross.

I agree, though with one slight tweak.
If it's naturally sweet from fructose, that's fine by me.
But added sweetness—you know, pure sugar or artificial sweeteners—is absolutely disgusting.
Just vile.

Right now, the coolest poster in town is that one for the black brothers Konono °1.
I have zero clue who they actually are or what they sound like, but there is something about it that just pulls me in.

It’s all DIY instruments scavenged from a junkyard, kind of like Einstürzende Neubauten, straight out of the heart of Africa. From the depths of darkness. Rhythm. Trance.

🙂

I'm going for it—whatever happens, happens.

But look, what we have here is just a corporate version of a DGC list, basically what happened after the CIA tore up the Declaration of Independence.

God, what kind of absolute mess of a CIA list did I put together yesterday!? 😬
Poor Broadway.

The Velvet Underground
Washing Machine
Sonic Nurse
Broadway
Goo
Dirty
NYC Ghosts & Flowers
Experimental Jet Set, Trash and no Star

This feels much more right. Broadway is finally rising up. Honestly, I might actually give NYC Ghosts & Flowers a third chance.

By the way, I totally forgot to mention yesterday—I've got a complete folder of Rod Stewart solo stuff (just not his work with The Faces). If a certain rock name ever pops into your head, just ask me first; there's a good chance I have it sitting here...

I know you have plenty. No need to rush it. It’s just easier knowing there’s a potential shortcut available.

There’s really no point wasting time or data on "classics," right?
Is there any dedicated punk geek on standby who can burn some CDs or DVDs? Maybe Kevin Chavez3?
I'll return the favor using my own gear or we can work out a deal. Shoot me a PM for the details.

I’ve gotta say, I’m a huge fan of David, even if I still struggle to wrap my head around his weird, indie-electro jargon and the way he writes.
