I’m just sitting here letting the Hammond fade out... anyone else feeling this?

It's freezing out there, I'm about to go light up a cigarette...

Laura Long5 said:don't listen to The Doors, why do you even bother

It's because they're actually good.

I'd take San Francisco over Los Angeles any day, but LA definitely wins when it comes to 60s music: The Byrds, Love, The Doors, Buffalo Springfield...

Whatever.

Look, 'Cowgirl in The Sand' is a masterpiece, no question about it.

As for karate, hmm, I guess I’ll give it another spin—properly this time.

I remember once, some guy named Šved really got under my skin by blasting karate on loop.

So, here's a little something back for him...

the Doors - Break on through (to the other side)

...it's already transitioned straight into 'Soul kitchen'.

Google: karate - cacophony 🙏

man, just bring Geoff along 🙂

So, that Cowgirl in the Sand CD finally showed up.

I’m honestly dreading listening to it again... it's just painful.

But hey, I'll give it another shot.

Bradley Ramos2 said:I honestly don't get why you're calling Tin Drum and Polaroids 'fragile'... you could argue that applies more to Quiet Life or Adolescent Sex... assuming we're all using the same definition of 'fragility' here.😎

I haven't really spent much time with Quiet Life or Adolescent Sex.
Personally, I think Gentlemen take polaroids holds up better than Tin Drum.
To me, David Sylvian is the true embodiment of fragility, and by extension, the whole Japan catalog.
It’s like he’s constantly draped in some fine silk kimono.
Is the guy actually human, or just a ghost?

Following stormyviper11 (because I've always had a soft spot for Joy Division)...

If you're into Joy Division, it’s almost a given that you'll dig Magazine, Ultravox, Japan, The Sound, The Comsat Angels... maybe even some early OMD.

I love a lot of them, but I don't follow them blindly.
On average, they're very good.
It's hard to say. Everything I've listened to—specifically the stuff after Foxx—tends to swing between being absolute masterpieces or just plain slimy.
I'd call them good based on two solid, yet incredibly fragile albums: Tin Drum & Gentlemen...
No Man's Land is okay, though in my book, it's way too "generic."
When they hit, they hit hard—they're truly exceptional.
I honestly can't decide.

I finally managed to shake this habit after I had one too many drinks and ended up bonding with an acquaintance's Labrador...

That’s just a dog. A Labrador. Mickey Mouse. :vividcanyon2:

Anyway, my current favorite five-piece band—Lynyrd Skynyrd. These guys are absolute legends.

I’m starting to think I might actually end up going to Coachella after all.

Sorry, Douglas Taylor4, I just lost my cool for a second...

101 is absolute garbage. I honestly can’t believe anyone still tunes in to that station. Honestly, the only thing more grating than those DJs on 101 is listening to Elvis Presley singing "Bad Romance" or having to endure Jimmy Buffett.

I'm signing off on this. I had to make my stance clear, just like whenever the topic of "melon season" comes up. Sometimes in the afternoon, I find myself hanging out with some guy from Sweden driving an electric car through Miami. (Is that Spider-Man's kind of music?) 🙂

The best kind of oil—high-quality sunflower oil, packed with carcinogens once you fry it.

... or ideally, mixed with some rendered lard. Straight from the Midwest!👋
Only if you can keep it at -13 °F.

Damn, I guess I really am an islander/coastal guy at heart.

My random beach day album list:

1. 'On the Beach' - It’s literally made for this setting; perfect for when the heat is cranking up. Even old man Neil knows that one works.

2. 'Second Edition' - Just brainless reggae. It’s like they took Jah Wobble and just added layers of fat until it was all just thumping bass... thump, thump, thump...

...

A bitter realization (kind of like getting punched in the face) regarding Angelic Upstarts:
For example—Solidarity 😲

Man, what happened? They went from raw energy to acoustic protest guitars, synth layers, and terrace rhythms...

Look, their hearts might still be in the right place, but the aesthetic is totally lost.
I have to draw a line in the sand after '2,000,000 Voices.'
'Woman in Disguise' as a single is fine, I guess. 😍

...

Now, a quick word on food:

1. Olive oil = the gold standard.

2. Cantaloupe = absolute fruit heaven. The combination of aroma, flavor, and texture is unbeatable, especially when it hits that perfect level of sweetness.

4. AC/DC
5. Whitesnake

Wrong.

1. File this under stormyviper11 😉 because honestly, let's be real—"Brothers in Arms" is the ultimate AOR anthem, which is why it doesn't need any fancy packaging.
2. Terrible. Pure evil. Those damn Maiden fans are incredibly irritating. They aren't the absolute worst, but they are gross. Just gross.
3. ? I skipped that one.
4. Get AC/DC on here immediately. AC/DC is pure sex. It’s mindless rock, sure, but it’s pure sex. 100% worth it.
5. They're going to burn in hell.

1. 4 skins

Absolute perfection. Sharp as a razor. I’ve actually mentioned them before when they were gaining traction.

2. angelic upstarts

Which band, for God's sake? They have such a killer formula for success: heavy, old-school punk riffs—not that metal garbage—muted melodies, elegant feedback, and pure adrenaline in the vocals...

The list keeps growing. Who knows where this ends.
I still prefer the gritty street punk vibe over anything with a cult following.

England, England 👋

They can get tedious if you listen to them in bulk, but there are definitely some gems in there. Personally, though, I’m all about the tracks where Chris takes the lead; the ones featuring Carl on vocals mostly fall flat for me.

On the flip side, I love it just as much—maybe even more—when Carla is singing.

I still don't quite wrap my head around how or why The Walkabouts managed to gain such traction within our old grunge-obsessed circles back in the day.

I’m asking myself the same thing. It’s a total mystery.

When I pick through their early stuff, it isn't because I'm looking for pure melodic beauty or technical shredding. It’s about that dark, brooding, rainy atmosphere you only find on the Pacific Northwest coast (think Twin Peaks or The X-Files).

Hangman is my passenger, tonight.
