Well, damn, I guess you really are getting up there in age...
To really uncover something fresh, you need to have both the drive and the patience... There’s just so much junk on the market these days that kills your motivation to hunt for new music, but you shouldn't write off every single new release before even giving it a chance; instead, try going in with minimal expectations. Like someone else mentioned once, music with real substance—the kind that won't wear thin after a few listens—requires a bit more time to get to know, and it's perfectly fine if an album doesn't immediately grab you, as long as you catch something intriguing enough to keep you coming back for more. And the key word here is actually listening. People today don't listen to music nearly enough; they just mindlessly consume it. It doesn't matter if you're playing it for five hours a day if the music is just background noise for whatever else you're doing, leaving you with nothing but the most banal and superficial impressions... Just be happy with your two hours a day, because some of us only get to truly listen to music on the weekends.
I see they’ve started throwing some heavy hitters at us now that ticket prices have spiked...
Burning Man: August 17-22, 2011 in Music ·
If Mixed Maniu would just separate themselves from all those hippies and cut the ticket price in half, I might actually consider going... But right now, it’s just another one of those overpriced foreign festivals that keeps finding a way to set up shop in our neck of the woods...
I honestly don't get what everyone is trying to achieve by adding an extra day to the lineup... It's not like the length of the festival is the reason we aren't seeing any actually interesting acts instead of just focusing on the ticket price. They could tack on three more days if they wanted to, but it doesn't really matter if they just fill the slots with mediocre local talent that nobody cares about, which is always such a drag... And looking at the current two-day schedule, I can already see a lot of filler that isn't worth the hype, like gentleman, The DØ, Biafra, and Cypress Hill, so stretching everything out even further just feels like more wasted time...
What does music mean to you? in Music ·
Just like most of those sudden extreme trends that pop up out of nowhere, this whole new obsession with music really rubs me the wrong way... It’s honestly kind of sad seeing people who can't even make a quick trip to the grocery store without their headphones on, it's just pathetic...
Hideout Festival Coachella 2011 (Zrće) in Music ·
Man, why does it feel like all the heavy hitters like Mount Kimbie, Ramadanman, Sven Vath, Breakage, and guys like them only ever show up to these massive festivals where the ticket price is absolutely brutal... and then it’s at a spot like Coachella 2011 too!

It's just that you have these mediocre DJs playing sets and random live acts at clubs and venues all year round, and then summer hits and suddenly there's this one festival with such an insane lineup that you can't even process it all, followed by another big one, and then you're just left in a total drought until next summer... I really wish they could, I don't know, maybe bring Kimbie in for a live set somewhere more local, or have a smaller festival with a few cool names at a reasonable price or something...

Honestly, between Outlook Festival and all this other stuff... it's just frustrating...

Well, I'm pretty stoked as it stands. But if the organizers were stuck choosing between Franc and Portishead, I’d definitely go with Portishead, though I know I'd have a blast at either one since they offer such different vibes...
Even though FF really stuck with me as the absolute highlight from the festival two years ago, if I actually had to choose between them and some other massive, legendary band that hasn't made its way out to the States yet, I’d probably go with the newcomer every single time... And honestly, there are just so many incredible artists and bands waiting to finally hit our shores...

Henry Mitchell29 said:I mean, how could they not be headliners? They're such a solid band that you can totally slot them into a headlining spot. It would be such a shame if they didn't pull a crowd here in the States... but I have a feeling people are into them enough to make it work as headliners...

So are you saying the guys actually don't want to be headliners? 😁

I'm just speculating. When you look at who headlined over the last few years, you see that TMV (who have only played small clubs in NYC so far) don't really fit into that specific circle. I'm talking about popularity, obviously, not talent...

Anyway, I keep stumbling across this MTV Unplugged lately, and right now I'm watching a Kings of Leon set from two months ago in New York City, and since it seems like everyone keeps asking for them, I figured I'd check it out. My impressions so far—God forbid they show up at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this year. It's basically just two guitars, a bass, and drums, which isn't exactly diverse, the songs all kind of bleed into one another, there's some generic solo before the end of every track that goes absolutely nowhere, the lead guy is just mumbling into his beard and the mic, and honestly, it's hard to tell which of the four is the most awkward (though I think it's the drummer, who ruins every song with those excessive fills), and even the crowd seems pretty lifeless. I definitely don't want to experience that at Central Park this summer. Honestly, they sound like actual artists compared to these guys...
It’s all about perspective. Honestly, even back then, those comedies and parodies weren't exactly side-splitters, and the horror flicks weren't truly terrifying either. But you were younger, maybe had less refined taste or just lower expectations, and since the movies weren't total garbage, they left a pretty good impression... Now, after years of avoiding them, there’s this weird trend of people mythologizing these old films, but when you actually sit down to rewatch them, they just don't hold up quite the same way since the context has changed so much. I remember absolutely loving Loaded Weapon and thinking it was the funniest parody ever when I first saw it, especially when FOX first aired it back in the day—around 2004 if my memory serves me right—but watching it again this past Sunday, I could barely believe how some of the jokes were just completely unfunny and poorly executed... Something similar happened to me a few months ago when I revisited Hot Shots, though in my opinion, that one is still miles ahead of LW.
Maybe they could have charged a bit more for that longer set, since it feels like the organizers just don't want to hand over headliner money to someone who isn't actually headlining...
It’s funny how people claim they don't have the time or energy, yet somehow find all the spare moments to sit around crafting these overly complicated arguments instead of just heading over to an official website to get the actual facts straight from the source... sometimes I really feel like the internet barely even made it to this part of the country yesterday...
I was just watching that Arcade Fire live set the other day, and they’re actually rerunning it on MTV right now, so if anyone feels like tuning in to hear how they sound...
By the way, I went from being a total skeptic to one of their biggest fans practically overnight after seeing that performance, especially since I ended up ordering all three of their albums at once on Amazon for about $20... I honestly don't think you could even grab a decent pair of headphones in the Suburbs for that kind of money
Portishead is just on a whole different level... they're honestly worth every penny if you can snag a ticket.
Anyway, I was catching some Arcade Fire on MTV via VH1 today and man, they sound so much better live than they do on their records, though I still don't quite get why everyone is obsessing over them so much. It feels like this current generation is just desperate to find that one defining band to represent their era, so they've plucked someone slightly above average out of a sea of mediocrity and now they're worshipping them the same way kids used to worship Nirvana...
Arcade Fire... I mean, look, we live in America now, so I guess we just have to be happy whenever a band of that caliber decides to swing through our neck of the woods. We might have to lower our expectations a little bit and just head out to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival since we missed out on them last year...
Caribou in Music ·
Caribou - basically just average indie pop for people who haven't stumbled upon anything actually good yet...
Rebecca Lee said:Okay, fair enough, but you really can't compare Pendulum and Scooter Braun when they aren't even playing the same genre of music...

What do you mean? They both just make absolute chaos...
frozenviper22 said:maybe some fake version of Arctic Monkeys' Tales of San Francisco?

They played that right after Lily Allen finished up, so it was probably about thirty minutes before Kraftwerk took the stage... I'm not entirely sure if they looped it again later on though...
