It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, though it certainly isn't perfect. It works well enough as a quick bit of popcorn entertainment, but you won't be thinking about this movie for a single second once the credits roll. It’s just a quick, fast fix before moving on. The opening actually feels promising, but that lasts only a few minutes before everything goes sideways. Literally. Within five minutes, the whole thing starts falling apart. We learn nothing about the characters—who they are, their relationships, what they were like before the accident, or how the struggle for survival shaped them. Nothing. All we know is that there's a guy and a girl, and that's it. They are thrown straight into the chaos, and the plot just bounces them from one situation to the next. There is zero real characterization here; the characters are just empty shells without any soul. Because of that, it's hard to care when they find themselves in danger or when someone eventually dies.
As for everything else, it's incredibly obvious from the start that the movie is inspired by Alien. The cinematography, the aesthetic, the premise, and the interior set design all feel like a direct nod to that cult classic. The most blatant parts are the suit designs and that first encounter with the little creature that looks exactly like a Facehugger. In one scene, you can even hear the exact same computer beeping sounds from Alien. In my opinion, that's the only major plus of the film.
The monster designs didn't do much for me either, aside from the small creature and the massive titan. The design and premise suggest we are dealing with nothing more than sirens, and the large titanic monster is a Kraken.
I have no complaints regarding the acting. It’s not Oscar material, but it isn't bad either.
The soundtrack is quite good and eerie, which helps build the atmosphere nicely.
My recommendation is to watch it once and only once. It's a shame, because it could have been much better.
Exactly! It's just a movie meant to entertain, and that's the end of the story. It’s definitely one of those films you want to see on a big screen though, because visually, it's awesome—it totally eats up the screen, if you know what I mean.
I'm right there with you on the characters. It feels like the goal here wasn't to brew a slow, rich cup of coffee at home, but more like grabbing a quick instant coffee at the office or having some fast sex without any of the foreplay or romance beforehand. If that’s what you’re looking for, then yeah, it’ll be totally fine and cool.
I wouldn't say it's inspired by Alien; I'd say it's copying Alien. There’s a difference between inspiration and just ripping off the Facehugger and that specific scene where it's on the table and everyone reacts—that’s a direct lift of a single scene from Alien.
To me, that's a huge negative for the film.
The sound and music are good, sure, but there are a few "beats" in there that feel pulled straight from Alien. I don't mind it too much—they didn't exactly steal the score, but the similarities are there, and I can take that as inspiration rather than blatant theft.
It really could have been great. Look, I’m no Hollywood expert, but if I were on set, I bet we would've ended up with a way better movie. Even you, if you were there and they asked for your input, you probably wouldn't have let them get away with such thin character development. It would've made the whole thing so much stronger.
