I guess anyone who enjoys FPS games really ought to watch this—it’s almost mandatory.

If you pay close attention, you might notice how the protagonist keeps gaining access to more weaponry, much like how your arsenal expands as you progress through a video game.

I have to say, the whole experience is quite intense; it feels somewhat like watching high-end gameplay, if you want to call it "graphics."

Signature 👍. I felt the same way; the film was good and felt like a genuine breath of fresh air. That main villain reminds me quite a bit of the antagonist from the GTA V soundtrack.

The soundtrack is also excellent. 👍

Frank Moore4 said:According to Stallone's claims, the studio apparently has specialized teams stationed over in Iraq and Syria right now, presumably to gather intelligence on ISIS so they can attempt some semblance of realism in the film, I guess. 🤣 No, I’m not joking. 🙂

This seems like such an obvious CIA operation that I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually spin it into some new sequel to Argo in a few years. 😁

I was wondering if there's actually a way to embed a full video player directly into a post—you know, like how YouTube works—instead of just dropping a plain link?
Black Hat (2015, Michael Mann) in Movies ·
I finally sat down to watch it, and I find myself agreeing with the general consensus here regarding the disappointment. It was a subpar film, and I suppose I really expected more from Michael Mann. The only redeeming quality might be the sound design during the firefights; I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for how Mann handles gunshots. 👍

The hacking aspects are depicted with some realism, though I can't help but feel the whole thing looks like it was ripped straight out of a cheesy "Cybersecurity" commercial.
What's the best Predator film? in Movies ·
My vote goes, without any shred of doubt or even much deliberation, to the original Predator (1987). 👍

The atmosphere is superb, the action is top-tier, the soundtrack is incredible, and the Predator is certainly worthy of its reputation (Winston once again 🙏), not to mention the stellar casting. I suppose if Michael Biehn had been in the mix, it might have been even better 😁 😁. If my memory serves, there were apparently security guards hovering around the lead actors during filming just to prevent any actual brawls from breaking out. 😁 I imagine that level of testosterone packed into one room inevitably has certain consequences. 😁

As for the rest, I don't really consider them part of the Predator Universe at all. Perhaps Predators counts, though I suppose I should probably watch it again to be sure.

Predator 2 was a disappointment to me on every conceivable level. It might hold some sentimental value for certain people—which is fine, I guess—but as a film, I found it terrible. It was a decent concept—a Predator in the city—but the execution was quite poor. Between the casting and the direction, nothing really worked for me, especially not Glover. When you consider that Arnold's entire unit was wiped out and Arnold barely managed to take down the Predator, it feels somewhat unconvincing that Glover could wrap things up so easily with that little predator boomerang.
The Fast and the Furious franchise in Movies ·
I suppose every installment brings something unique to the table. The first two Fast & Furious movies offer decent street racing, and Tokyo Drift provides the drifting 😁 (though I feel like Lucas Black was a bit of a miss for his role), while Fast & Furious 4 manages to reunite the old crew...

That said, my vote probably leans more toward Fast Five. It lacks the street racing found in the original Fast & Furious, but I think it lands better overall. The direction feels sharper, the ending is improved (especially with Danza Kuduro playing), and the characters seem a bit more mature.

It seems Fast & Furious 6 didn't quite make the cut in this poll 😁. Personally, I’d say it’s the weakest link in the series. Perhaps that's a bit harsh, but the main theme song, We Own It, is actually quite good. 👍

Michael Palmer9 said:I suppose I'm actually looking forward to seeing what IBM comes up with. 😁 Games really should be considered the gold standard; I suppose it’s only logical that they’d be adapted into films. 🙂

It’s generally accepted that movies adapted from video games tend to be rather subpar—one might look at John Wick or Lara Croft as prime examples.

I suppose I still find myself leaning toward Star Wars being the superior choice here, mostly because the game is just brilliant. Between the core gameplay and that incredible narrative, it seems to hold up regardless of whether you frame it in the past, present, or future—it's just exceptionally well-crafted.

That’s exactly why I suspect the movie shouldn't lean too heavily on the game's existing narrative. It might actually serve the first installment better to focus on Shepard's backstory instead—perhaps diving into his military history, highlighting the Akira battle, or exploring those specific origins like being Born-on-Earth or a solo Survivor. There are endless ways they could go with it, I guess.
Paul (2011) in Movies ·
I found the film to be quite excellent. It featured plenty of comedic beats, though I suppose it was the dialogue that truly stood out; it’s been a while since I’ve encountered a comedy that left such a lasting impression on me.

Partly, I think it was simply due to the R-rating, which seems to be becoming an increasingly rare sight in Hollywood these days. An R-rating arguably adds a whole new dimension to a film, and in this particular case, it seemed to facilitate a much sharper sense of humor. One gets the feeling the writers might have had a bit of an international flair to their style.

Personally, I’m inclined to believe that the MPAA and their whole rating system tend to stifle cinematic innovation.

Peggy and Frost managed to prove themselves once again in this production, at least in my estimation.

If I were to point out a single flaw, I might suggest the soundtrack was somewhat underwhelming. Perhaps they could have leaned more heavily into certain tracks during specific sequences.
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Is this graphics card actually worth the price tag? I've done some digging online and it seems like a decent deal, though I suppose I’d feel a bit more confident about pulling the trigger if I had some extra validation from you guys. I was originally eyeing the Gigabyte version of the GTX 460, but they don't seem to have it in stock here in Kansas City, and I just can't find the time to head over to New York City to track it down. This Sapphire model looks pretty solid too, I guess. Is there really much of a difference between the Gigabyte and Sapphire versions of the 460?
Who is the GOAT of action movies? in Movies ·
It’s definitely Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Arnold Schwarzenegger vs. Sylvester Stallone, The Movie - this eight-minute short is something I suppose you might find worth watching. Personally, I thought it was quite excellent.

Transformers 2 stills

I found the first Transformers to be a decent enough watch, I suppose. It’s quite high-octane and packed with action, and I found those transformation effects to be rather impressive. It seems reasonable to expect another solid action flick from Michael Bay, who tends to deliver pretty effective films—like Bad Boys, Armageddon, or even The Rock—especially when you consider how well he pairs them with a soundtrack.
Ghost Rider in Movies ·
Nicolas Cage isn't actually a bad actor; I suppose he was just stuck with a subpar character in Ghost Rider.

The movie is honestly quite ridiculous. The most absurd part, I think, is when you have Nicolas Cage on his motorcycle and Sam Elliott—playing the Caretaker—on a horse, riding through a graveyard to take down some bad guy. They get to the cemetery, and then the old man suddenly decides he’s not interested in joining the fight. I guess maybe his horse just overheated from all that fire.
Roland Emmerich movies in Movies ·
I suppose my vote goes to Independence Day. I've always found the plot and the cast in that one to be quite enjoyable. Right after that, I'd have to say Stargate is my pick. I'm also a bit of a fan of the series itself.
His weakest work, in my opinion, would likely be Universal Soldier... just your typical action flick.
Michael Bay movies in Movies ·
David Price5 said:Well, Michael Bay makes some of the most visually stunning action movies out there. I suppose they can be a bit overly sentimental at times, but what else can you really expect?

I guess I agree. His films are undeniably beautiful to look at, even if certain scenes lean a little too hard into the melodrama. He has a knack for syncing everything with the soundtrack, though I read on IMDb that some critics actually despise him for making movies that feel more like extended music videos...

He’s probably a genius when it comes to action cinema... 🙏
Michael Bay movies in Movies ·
I’ll cast my vote for Dwayne Johnson. The movie is just pure, unadulterated chaos, which I suppose is the point. That chase through San Francisco was actually quite impressive, and I might even go as far as saying the soundtrack belongs in my personal top five.

I can't quite wrap my head around why anyone would dislike Michael Bay's work... I am genuinely curious about that perspective.
Armageddon (1998) in Movies ·
I found the movie to be quite excellent. I suppose the tension is what really does it for me; you end up watching the whole thing in one sitting. There are a few sequences that have become personal favorites, such as when a fragment of an asteroid strikes Paris or that moment they land on the asteroid right before the Independence crashes, all set to a truly great soundtrack.

The cast is also top-tier. I won't even get started on Bruce Willis, but I have to say, Steve Buscemi (Rockhound) was fantastic.

In my opinion, Armageddon stands as the premier disaster film out there.
Independence Day vs. War of the Worlds in Movies ·
I’m casting my vote for Independence Day. Why? Primarily because of the alien designs, their specific method of conquest, and that final showdown. I suppose the way humans managed to crack those alien shields using a computer virus was quite clever, too. Plus, I’ve always had a soft spot for the whole Area 51 concept.

In contrast, in War of the Worlds, the aliens drop from the sky like lightning bolts and go about destroying the world in those massive "tripods," only for their shields to be taken down by a biological virus—which feels perhaps a bit too convenient, if you ask me.

That’s just my take on it, though I suppose everyone has their own preferences.
What's the best movie in its genre? in Movies ·
Maybe we should consider a screening of Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
I suppose one could call *Me, Myself & Irene* a comedy, though I suspect that label might be a bit generous given how much it relies on sheer absurdity.
I suppose one could argue that the concept of a simulated reality is somewhat more compelling when viewed through the lens of science fiction, though perhaps that's just wishful thinking on my part.
I suppose one might consider *Gladiator* to be a historical epic, though I suspect that label is perhaps a bit generous given the creative liberties taken.
I suppose one might find some level of tension in *Schindler's List*, though I suspect the heavy-handedness of the drama might feel a bit much for certain audiences, perhaps. It’s an intense watch, I guess.
I suppose one could argue that *Saving Private Ryan* remains a somewhat definitive piece of American cinema, if you're into that sort of thing. It’s perhaps a bit much for some, I guess.
