Laptop keyboard issues in Computer Peripherals ·
This might be a bit tricky depending on the keyboard layout. Some setups don't play nice when you try to pop the keys off. It’s usually fine to pull them out, but getting them back in can be a total pain 😬

Do yourself a favor and check YouTube first—there’s definitely a tutorial out there. On some laptops, swapping keys is a breeze, but on others, you practically have to gut the entire machine just to reach them, so watch your step. If yours is one of those nightmare models, just take your time and snap photos of everything with your phone so you actually remember how it all goes back together 😬

🤷 I’ve got a Canon MG5550, and if even one color runs out, the whole thing just stops working...
How to connect a parallel printer to a USB port? in IT Support ·

If you check out the link above, you'll see that besides just grabbing the cable, you also have to hunt down drivers for your OS. And let's be real, installing this kind of gear is rarely plug-and-play; you usually have to follow some specific sequence of steps, which you can find under the Knowledge Base Q&A section there.

It doesn't matter if your specific adapter or cable isn't the exact one in that link—I only posted it as an example. Just go to your own manufacturer's site to find the right specs and drivers for what you actually have.

Look, you just have to dig around and experiment; there's no magic solution here... Try formatting it to FAT32, or maybe try exFAT instead, and see what happens.

The Freemake suite (4K Video Downloader, YouTube mp3 converter, Audacity, and HandBrake) — honestly, you probably won't find anything simpler than this... 😬

New case and cooler recommendations? in Desktops ·
The Noctua NF-P12+ is a solid case, and it comes with three 120mm quiet fans—Corsair's, obviously. Honestly, for this price point, I don't think you can find another chassis that includes three decent fans (some sources even claim four!), dust filters, toolless design, and a built-in fan controller (though it really only handles two fans)...
Check the hardware acceleration settings in your AutoCAD updates and whatever other design software you're running. See which GPUs are actually on the supported list so you can toggle them on and get some actual speed out of your calculations...
Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
That German Ultron... It might not be all bad, but honestly, GP3 has proven itself time and again as a super reliable and solid power supply. If you can handle the heat and the local Best Buy isn't too far out of your way, I'd personally stick with the local shop...
Best replacement for Radeon Software? in IT Support ·
"The Radeon 4 series cards aren't officially supported on Windows 10 because they don't meet the bare minimum specs. Windows 10 is just going to pull a generic, stripped-down driver through Windows Update that'll let you browse the web, but that's about it. Honestly, your best move is to stick with Windows 7. You won't find any HD 4850 drivers for Windows 10."

Unfortunately, Windows 10 only pushes those basic drivers since the Radeon 4 series doesn't hit the minimum requirements for Windows 10. There are no drivers available, and there won't be...

You can either deal with those crappy basic drivers or just roll back to Windows 7 or 8.
Best replacement for Radeon Software? in IT Support ·
Maybe it would help if you just told us which card you're running? It’s honestly ridiculous that an AMD card isn't supported by Radeon Software. What else am I supposed to use, then?
Headphone repair help needed in IT Support ·
If you know your way around a toolkit, you can handle this yourself. You just need to carefully take the controller apart, snip the frayed wire, and solder a fresh connection onto the contacts. If you aren't handy or don't have a buddy with a soldering iron, just drop it off at a local repair shop—maybe a TV repair place or even a neighborhood electrician. It shouldn't be a big deal. As for the cost, you’re looking at anything from the price of a beer up to $17 max. Don't let anyone talk you into paying more than that, no matter what they say.
Help! My laptop is giving me a beep code in IT Support ·
It’s almost certainly the GPU. Microsoft's BIOS is throwing a "search for drivers" error. Plus, you're getting one long beep followed by two short ones, which is a classic checksum failure. If you were running an Award BIOS, those codes would be telling you the exact same thing: bad video card.
I'm with you on this. One thing though—you’re going to be begging for more RAM sooner than you think. When you start diving into video editing, there really is no ceiling. Since RAM is pretty cheap right now, you might want to look into bumping it up to 16GB as soon as you can afford it. Honestly, if you ever move into 4K editing, even 32GB won't feel like enough...
Noises coming from my PC case in Hardware ·
Honestly? Get it to a repair shop ASAP. If you actually think your monitor cables are capable of producing sound, then we’re beyond help at this point because anything could happen next... 😬

Since the noise only kicks in when you're pushing the system (like when you're gaming), it means either your CPU fan or—more likely—your GPU fan is acting up. Your rig needs a deep clean, and you might need to swap out one of those fans entirely. Hurry up and get it looked at, because this isn't going to fix itself; it’ll just keep getting worse until something actually snaps...
Gaming PC builds: What are you running? in Desktops ·
That’s a pretty weird way to buy a computer unless you actually live in the States. And saying you want to play "the occasional game" is super vague. If you're just looking to run one massive, high-end AAA title once a year, you're definitely going to struggle with performance... even big time. What kind of games are we talking about here?

If you're dealing with some big-name brand, they can be a total pain when you're just trying to install stuff on your hard drive... It's always some specific brand name or a certain model number.

It is a little weird, though. If someone remembers Bad Manners alongside Madness or The Specials (assuming that's the case), those guys were total chaos. Like how Gustafi puts it, they were just there for the party...

😁 yeah, they really were...
