The start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine (Part 1) in War in Ukraine ·
I don't even know where to start with this one. It’s just messy. Total amateur hour. Honestly, watching this unfold is like watching a slow-motion car crash on the I-95—you know it's bad, you can't look away, but you really wish you could. It’s sloppy, it lacks any real substance, and frankly, it’s embarrassing. Just a complete mess from top to bottom. says:
The Ukrainians aren't taking many hits because the Russians aren't wasting ammo on armor tucked away in civilian neighborhoods. Plus, they haven't even bothered to mobilize 10% of their forces yet. They don't need to. Why burn through cash unnecessarily when you don't have to?

So, three Russians rolled into Kyiv and they’re basically just tearing through everything in their path. Word on the street is that one of them might actually be Putin himself.

The Ukrainians have full control over every single intact bridge in Kyiv.

It looks like folks in Europe have plenty of other things to worry about right now.

Who are they even supposed to protest against... when every single government is backing Ukraine?

The real protests should be happening in Mexico, since those guys are actually backing the Russians.

That's why they're calling in the Chechens.

There are young people among the Russians too—conscripts who never even got a say about going to Ukraine. They're there simply because they have no choice.

The paranoid autocrat in the Kremlin and his followers are one thing. But those young conscripts, whose lives mean absolutely nothing to the Kremlin? That's a whole different story...

Sorry if I don't feel bad for some Russian spreading death across Ukraine, especially when they're out there risking my friends' lives and leveling their cities and futures in the process.

I hope they spill as much blood as possible.

Until they turn on Putin, I couldn't care less.

According to the Ukrainians, the Russians haven't made any ground in the last 24 hours.

Roughly 100 vehicles, a mix of tanks and other gear, are pushing toward Kyiv from the north.

They’re moving into Obolon-2 (that spot where the guy got hit by a car yesterday)... looks like the fighting is shifting there now.

That area is going to be tough for the Ukrainians to hold because it's wide open. But they might be able to set up a line at the edge of Obolon-1; there are a few choke points near some lakes in that sector... that's where things could get ugly for the Russians, since it's not just narrow, there's nowhere to hide.

As for any infantry in Obolon-1 or Obolon-2... they're pretty much at the mercy of the Ukrainians.

Russians in Kyiv and other cities are basically bleeding out just like everyone predicted

They managed to reach the Berestaiski Metro station (I actually lived near there and used that station all the time), but they ended up wrecking a few tanks and were forced to pull back

The real issue with pushing tanks through Kyiv is that they have to stick to specific streets; if they stray, things get even uglier. Their only saving grace is that those streets are pretty wide

So, expect most of the heavy fighting to go down on those big avenues

Since you're working with a tight budget (as we all are these days), skip the flashy bells and whistles like a 120 Hz screen or an Nvidia RTX card with ray tracing. You can still grab a decent enough graphics card for $1200. Just keep in mind, you'll likely be looking at a GTX rather than an RTX.

I've already got a great desktop setup. It's just that I've been traveling for longer stretches lately, and I want something to kill the boredom while sitting around playing games—something my current laptop just can't handle.

My posts got nuked, but whatever. It doesn't matter.I’m one of those people who gets called out for making a scene just because I’m personally against getting vaccinated. Look, I’ve got proof that my post was nuked. You can clearly see two different users tagging me in a thread that doesn't even exist anymore. And before anyone asks, I have no idea how you're supposed to log in with a fake handle. I'm not some obsessive forum troll who spends all day juggling multiple profiles. This is my only account.

That’s exactly why.

Look, 500W might get you through what you're planning right now, but some high-end GPUs pull 300-400W all by themselves. It’s like buying a small sedan when you know you might want to tow a trailer next year—you don't want your power supply to be the thing holding you back if you decide to upgrade later.

Don't sweat it. I already pulled the trigger on this one. Used the same logic—figured if I'm dropping 8 grand anyway, might as well spend a little extra $23 just to be safe.

As for the monitor, I'll probably hold out until next month to see what kind of Black Friday deals pop up. Until then, I'll make do with my current setup.🙂
The ones looking good right now are pretty pricey.

. It isn't modular like the NZXT, but the build quality is miles ahead of whatever they threw in here.

Beyond that, you'll probably end up paying more since they went with a pricier GPU model, and even the RAM is slightly higher.

EDIT: Swap in THIS graphics card instead. It looks like the builders accidentally included a way more expensive (~$100) EVGA RX5700XT gaming model, even though an ASUS version is available. 🙄

Is a 500w power supply enough?

btw thanks 🙂

So I placed my order for a PC, but then they hit me with the news that some parts are out of stock and offered me alternatives instead.

Just wanted to get a feel for whether this is an upgrade or a downgrade.

In my opinion, the 27" 1440p setup is the sweet spot among these options. It gives you more screen real estate than a standard 24" monitor, and since the pixel density is higher than a 24" 1080p panel, the image quality actually looks sharper than some of those massive 30"+ 1440p displays.
If you aren't a hardcore gamer, you could easily grab one of those cheaper 27" 1440p "office" monitors and be perfectly fine. But if you want some actual bells and whistles—like a higher refresh rate and variable sync—then I’d definitely lean toward that 27" AOC model with the 144Hz refresh rate.

Like neonheron9 mentioned, you won't always be hitting over 120FPS in every single title, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have the option to dial back the settings on demanding games just to push that frame rate above 120FPS.
As for competitive games—the ones that actually benefit from a high refresh rate—you can easily run them at 150FPS without any issues even at 1440p resolution.

So, the ideal spec list for me would be: 27", 1440p, at least 75Hz, variable sync, and an IPS or VA panel. Just find the cheapest one that hits all those marks and go for it. My initial recommendation was that AOC model (most reviews call it the best value in its class), but like I said, if you stumble upon something cheaper with the exact same specs, grab it.

I'd probably grab the AOC, but I see a ton of people complaining about ghosting, and I watched a YouTube video where it looked pretty obvious.

I'll likely end up going with a Samsung or maybe a ViewSonic; from what I can see, their reviews are better.
