http://www.sci-mentor.com Here's the site if you want to check it out.

I haven't tried them personally, but I've heard they're top-tier—one of those heavy-hitter brands...

...but as far as I know, they aren't even sold here in the States. Where on earth did you find them?

Which one of these two do you think is better:

Nutrabolics on some local gym forum? It’s practically divine if you believe Bog made it himself.
I really like this CNP based on the description, though I'm not sure it's actually meant for PWM.

Looks like I'll just grab a tub of mass gainer. Use it for maybe two months, then switch over to whey. If I'm lucky, I might put on 7 pounds. I know, I know—diet is everything. You don't need to lecture me right away...

Aim for 1.5 to 2 grams of protein and maybe 4 to 6 grams of carbs, depending on whether your metabolism is running fast or slow. Basically, if you're slower, go lower; if you're faster, bump it up. As for how to figure out which category you actually fall into? Who knows.

I’m hitting maybe 2g of protein a day at most, though honestly, I don't always reach that mark. My body fat stays stuck in the same spot, yet the scale keeps creeping up—about 4 or 5 pounds a month. I’d really prefer if I was just putting on lean muscle without all the extra fat. I'm not tracking every single macro; I just try to make sure there's plenty of protein in every meal. Is that even enough?

Yeah, I don’t obsess over the math either. I just scan for stuff high in carbs and protein and go to town on it. I’m not exactly hitting that 2.5g protein mark every day; it usually fluctuates between 1.5 and 2g. What am I supposed to do? It's not like I'm carrying a food scale around to track every single bite just to be precise.

How many grams of carbs should I be hitting per kilo of body weight? I know the rule of thumb for protein is around 2-2.5g per kilo, so I figured 4g of carbs per kilo would be plenty. Turns out I was way off. Right now, I just toss an extra 100g of carbs into my morning oats, which is barely over 1g per kilo
obviously we're talking about bulking here

Patrick Fox9 said:All those proteins and supplements are just junk that poisons you. They're useless...

Clearly you don't know anything about fitness since you're posting this nonsense. If you actually understood training, you wouldn't be talking such garbage.

I have no idea why you decided to wander into a subforum where you obviously don't belong just to drop a stupid comment like that.

Anyway, back to the topic.

briskmarlin59, where on earth did you find a 2kg tub of Optimum Nutrition 100 % Whey protein Gold standard for $100
?

It’s coming out to about $117 total once you factor in sales tax and customs fees... though I guess $117 for 3.2kg, it’s still pretty cheap
.
And like you mentioned, there's hardly any sugar, plus it has flaxseed oil and plenty of protein... looks like a high-quality product, at least based on the label

Jonathan Miller7 said:If that gainer actually has whey in it, I think it’s worth it for right after a workout. Then, within an hour, you just follow up with a solid meal containing slow proteins and fats.

That’s basically my routine anyway. My campus dining hall is right next to my gym, so I usually knock back a protein shake immediately and then take a long shower😁 to kill at least thirty minutes before heading over to eat at the dining hall.

placidranger said:And how much fat?
This doesn't look like enough yet—unless you're just counting the mass gainer, in which case it looks like plenty. 😕

That’s without the gainer. I calculated that based on four meals, which is basically the bare minimum I eat.

As for fat, honestly, I have no clue🤷 I'll probably just look up the nutrition facts online later. How much fat am I supposed to be hitting?

Jonathan Miller7 said:I used to think the same way, and honestly, it’s fine. But you can't just expect to gain 10 pounds just because you bought a tub of gainer. You could be drinking mass gainer and still losing weight. A gainer isn't magic; it's just food.

I figured someone would say that. Maybe I didn't word my original post perfectly... I get it, diet is the foundation.

Basically, it's 4-5 meals + protein powder + maybe a shake if there happens to be enough time between my last meal and the gym.

I'm slamming a ton of carbs. My plan is to hit about 80g of carbs and 30-40g of protein per meal. That puts me at roughly 4g of carbs per kg of body weight and 2g of protein per kg daily.
Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I’m about to dive into something I swore I’d never even touch, let alone actually use.

That’s right, I’m buying a damn gainer. Before you start—spare me the lecture. I know the drill. It’s basically just sugar, right? A mix of whey and glucose? Yeah, yeah, I get it. But I want to pack on another 5kg as fast as humanly possible. This isn't some desperate attempt to look good for beach season two months from now; I just want an extra 5kg of mass over the next couple of months to build a foundation for more serious work later. My plan is to grab a 3kg tub, knock it out, and then never look back.

Here’s what I’m getting:

Which proteins should I get? Honestly, my take is that whey is just whey—though obviously, I’m not talking about the cheap stuff you find at a local drugstore.

Just look at the big names like Dymatize, Scitec, Universal, Crash, MVP, or Optimum Nutrition...

Nicholas Kern90 said:one of the cheaper ones probably isn't

one of the better ones, for sure.

What I meant was: the cheapest of the good stuff.

As for vegan options, they're alright. Nothing special, but not exactly revolting either. I can't really eat them on their own, but they work if you have some toast. Since I'm bulking, I don't have to be super strict, so having some vegan protein with toast before bed is fine.

But you guys seriously need to try this brand my friend uses. You wouldn't believe it—19g of protein per 100g. It was on sale at Kroger, $3.75 500g tubs. I grabbed seven of them on Saturday and now I'm out. Need to hit the store again; maybe they still have some in stock.

Is there a cheaper way to go about this? Or how long does a tub actually last? It mentions a spoonful, but I have no idea how many grams are in a spoon, so I can't really figure out my math here.😳

Well, at least you did some homework. You actually know what casein is and all that stuff.
Microsoft is one of the better budget brands out there. If you want to save money, you could either buy a smaller tub or just wait a month or two until I place a bulk order with a group from another forum—we usually snag a 20% discount that way.
It comes with a 30g scoop inside, so you won't have to kill yourself trying to calculate everything.
If you're looking to cut costs even further, you could try taking only half a scoop on days when your protein intake from other sources is already pretty high.
You can also swap the casein for low-fat cottage cheese occasionally. About 200g of cottage cheese is roughly equal to one scoop. The taste is a bit gross, but doing it once or twice a week isn't a bad idea. Plus, you can mix almost anything into cottage cheese to make it edible; there are plenty of recipes out there.

I've got their price list right here. Just shoot me an email via PM and I'll send it over tonight once I'm back home.

stormylynx96, it just occurred to me—you’re from California, right? If you happen to be near Pro Nutrition... they're this American company that makes their own protein. People rave about them. Honestly, I’ve never actually tried it myself, but the word on the street is they're solid, plus the price point is pretty low. They don't really have retail stores anywhere except that specific area, though you can always order through the mail. But if you do that, you might as well just grab the Microsoft version. If you're nearby, though, it’s probably worth the trip.

Scott Chase said:😲 Honestly, I don't care... though, what's the deal with that glutamine? Why are they handing it out in bulk? xD

It’s fine. Everything they give away is actually decent. The catch is they aren't just being generous; they’re clearing out stock that's nearing its expiration date. Maybe it's got a month left on it, but you can still use it over the next few months—that's what the label says, right? It's not going to spoil overnight. But if they can't sell it, it's a loss. They'd rather get rid of it.
It's the same thing with milk. I'm pretty sure that's how it works at places like Kroger. If they have milk where the packaging says it's expired, they might just repackage it and send it back out. Same thing here—once it hits the store shelves, it isn't going back to the warehouse. Sometimes they just hand it out when they have too much leftover before the next shipment arrives...
So yeah, you could get anything. Personally, I'm just hoping for a t-shirt next time I grab something.

Scott Chase, when are you planning on grabbing that Isolate from Microsoft? I’m probably going back to those ones from the other forum in a month or two. Honestly, just grab one tub to save 20%—you might even score a freebie. I heard someone once snagged a whole kilo of glutamine for free; that would be like hitting the jackpot for me.

Microsoft has its own shop over in Los Angeles, right near that intersection by the old depot area, I can't quite recall the exact street name.😁
If you go with Microsoft, you can actually snag a 20% discount if you team up with that crew from the other forum—we usually place massive bulk orders together to trigger the savings. At 2.2 kg, it works out to about $107 which is a steal. Plus, they sometimes throw in freebies when you're dropping that kind of cash, like a t-shirt or some vitamins... things like that.

Look, Doc, here’s the deal: that Labrador proV60 stuff looks like casein. It says it's best used before bed, so I just took it at face value without overthinking it.
Do yourself a favor and look up the difference between whey and casein online. You'll realize pretty quickly that what you've got there isn't meant for post-workout.
After training, you need whey. My go-to is Microsoft.
It's affordable, mixes well, tastes decent, and has a high protein content—24g per 30g scoop. Plus, it doesn't use aspartame, which I can't stand. As for how it sits in your stomach? Totally fine. I usually deal with some digestive issues from certain proteins, but this one hasn't caused any trouble. Taste is solid, too.
You can even hunt down a discount if you want to save a few bucks.

They have larger packs available, too.

Kenneth Martinez3 said:I’m back at the gym after a year off, trying to put on some decent weight in a controlled way. The issue is, I can't seem to eat nearly as much as I used to, so I've started looking into protein supplements. This Gold Standard Whey looks like a solid option, but I’m stuck on the timing. Do I need to take it every single day, or just on training days? Since I'm a high school senior currently buried under studying for my SATs, I only make it to the gym twice a week. Should I be drinking this daily regardless of whether I actually worked out? Any insights? 🙂

And how effective is it actually for gaining weight? If anyone can explain that, I'm all ears. 😁

I’ve seen some protein tubs where the label suggests four servings a day. I honestly thought nobody actually followed that advice—who has the time or the stomach for that kind of nonsense? Then I stumbled onto another forum and saw some guy complaining about his health issues or whatever. Turns out, he’s drinking four shakes a day just because the label told him to. Is anyone actually following those instructions blindly?☕

We need to find whoever is responsible for putting labels like that on things and throw them in Guantanamo Bay.

You can mix it with milk if you want, but don't even think about doing that right after a workout. Seriously, not after training. Mandatory. In the water.

Check out this link. The site is actually top-tier. They have a forum too, and their articles are solid—you can definitely pick up some smart stuff if you read them.

Another edit. 😁 :

Twice a week is cutting it way too close. It’s not impossible to get a workout in, but it's a massive uphill battle because you're trying to cram biceps, triceps, chest, shoulders, back, and legs into just two sessions. I don't get how you can't squeeze in at least one more day.
Look, I’m balancing classes and a job every single weekday from 4 to 9 PM, plus I hit the gym four times a week—sometimes between lectures or whenever I can squeeze it in, including one day on the weekend. Are you seriously telling me you can't just head straight to the gym after school before going home? It isn't that deep. Just throw on some sneakers and a T-shirt and go. It's no different than prepping for a PE class. If you really can't manage to fit in one more session, what about just buying a couple of dumbbells and hitting arms and shoulders at home? I mostly use dumbbells for those muscle groups myself. There are plenty of effective exercises out there if you actually bother to look.
