I’ve got a similar situation going on here, pretty much just like what happened with Detlesica. I spent so much time listening to them, then finally went out and bought the original album, and honestly? I haven't even touched it since. It’s one of those things—either I’ve just overbought too much music to actually get through, or maybe I’m just strictly an MP3 guy now, or maybe they just lost their spark for me. 🤔
Man, forget all that noise. Seriously though, they actually stole Slash's hat. 😢 😢 I mean, what the hell is Slash even going to do without his hat now?
The album of the week has gotta be Dexy's Midnight Runners - Too-Rye-Ay. Honestly, I actually picked this one up before I grabbed "Searching for The Young Soul Rebels," and I've definitely spent more time spinning it. Both were huge hits from last week, though. As for the track of the week, I'm going with "Geno" by the same guys. It’s just such a beautiful song. Hearing it brings back all these memories of listening to some old-school radio countdown on Saturday Night Live where I first heard it. 👍
Depeche Mode - We Don't Need This Fascist Groove Thang (I absolutely loved that whole Post-Punk album.) David Bowie’s work on The Garden—both that specific track and the whole album—is just top-tier stuff. It’s such a vibe. Honestly, you can't talk about that era without mentioning how much influence he had on the whole sound. It's classic. Just really solid, confident songwriting that holds up no matter how many times you spin it. Definitely a staple.
After spending the last few weeks diving deep into "Red Harvest - Sick Transit Gloria Mundi Cudnovata" (the double album), I’ve finally moved on to "The Very Best of The Mekons" this Sunday. It’s honestly such a great excuse to catch up on tracks from their older albums that I, admittedly, totally missed before. In my opinion, this band is easily worthy of having ten different "Best of" compilations. The track of the week has to be "this Sporting Life."
And yeah, Rajk, until just a couple of days ago, I actually thought it was impossible to go fifteen years without listening to "London Calling." But hey, at the end of the day, it’s all about how good it sounds. 🙂
Honestly, being stuck here in the States, I’d love to get more plugged into the local alternative scene. I’ve already got a few things on my playlist, like Lavender Field, Peach, and Uzrujan..., but I’m definitely looking to expand my collection. Does anyone know a good soul out there who’s got a massive stash of MP3s they could share?
As far as who was where during all that absolute chaos goes, it feels like a hollow argument to me. Most people actually there were just desperate to get out of the city. Then you have the whole issue of how people acted and what they said publicly. I haven't read a single statement from Nelet where he trashed the city he was born in, so I can't go calling him some kind of moral lowlife. Same goes for Kusturica. Honestly, Kusturica is such a total fraud that no font size exists large enough to describe his lack of character. And I don't buy the idea that Bregović isn't loved in Sarajevo either (though even he mentioned countless times long before the war how little appreciation he felt there). From what I know, he played there a few times and was always welcomed with open arms. As for Pušeni, as much as it might hurt some people's feelings to hear, both of them are complete losers.
So Peter was actually singing back in the sixties, and by the time Boyz II Men came around, he wasn't exactly some young kid—he must have been at least 40!!
Yeah, total old-school hippie vibes. Peter even sang in German once; he was with that popular band Jane and recorded an album with them. I never really listened to it, but honestly, I think watching him perform with Boyz II Men was way more fun. All that long hair, the chains, the leather jackets... man, it was beautiful. Great review, Naranja, I'll probably spend my whole workday reading the rest of these.
I’m not even trying to be envious, it’s just 😵 especially considering those sound issues we had. Honestly, it felt like being a soldier out there firing away while Lizardi is just chilling a few yards off. 😁 I actually had some guy try to call me out after the show, but luckily he didn't track me down, otherwise things would have gotten heated. Anyway, all I can do is wait for them to tour back this way (hopefully they get booked for the festival in Victoriaville again).
Does anyone have the Rock and Roll for Kids album (digitally) by The Government and Gilet?
I've got it. My kid didn't listen to it much back in the day, so I'll need to dig through my files to find it. Let me know how you want me to send it over.
You could try searching for "music for jogging," though I honestly don't think a quick Google search is going to cut it. Maybe Eno could record something specifically on that topic. 😁
