Not really a connection, other than the guy you linked being in—I think—industrial waters, which just reminded me of my recent failed attempt at listening to Downward Spiral.
It’s not even surprising for New Order, since Sonic Youth was such a sure bet too.

Check this out—the Peter Murphy solo stuff under the Dust moniker is just top-tier. Seriously, if you haven't dug into this, you're missing out.
👍
Man, you gotta love it when things just work out like that.😁
You reminded me that I gave Downward Spiral a shot the other day—made it through the third track before tapping out. I’d love for someone to suggest some other NIN stuff for me to check out soon.
brightwolf48 said:It’s such a bummer that Mark and those chaotic brothers Gary Lee and van were too dysfunctional to even tour after that record—and then it took them four whole years just to get Dust out—but by then, the window for any real commercial momentum had already slammed shut.
Dust is a straight-up masterpiece.

Total classic—this was easily the best band of the grunge era (and honestly, they were way more than just a grunge band).
Chris Myers said:Wait—when exactly did I ever give you a red card?
At least I’m known as the chill guy who isn't a total stickler—I don't really care for the rigid rules and I'm more about giving everyone a little breathing room...
I didn't get them from you—though I'm pretty sure you would've handed them over if I asked (and for good reason)—but I'd definitely jump into that thread about the long-term effects of the Coronavirus on the Corona subforum and start grilling Amy Rogers or whoever else about the Great Reset.
Alright, let's just drop the fighting—no point in arguing.
Chris Myers said:Amy Rogers6, would you mind actually defining what "truth" means when it comes to the Coronavirus... 😉
Look, Chris Myers—you’re a moderator for the Coronavirus section and apparently three or four other subforums too, right? I actually respect you as someone who used to drop some really solid takes over in the Music section—but why are you pulling this on my thread in General Politics? You’d normally slap me with a ban without even blinking, and then turn around and act confused about why I'm complaining—claiming we're either way too soft or way too harsh.
Nancy Carter43 said:Man, Led Zeppelin won this round—shame about the other guys... they definitely deserve to be on those "album of the week" lists... maybe not with these specific records, but as songwriters, for sure...
So, following that logic, I’m throwing out *You Shook Me*. After that, if anyone has suggestions for this week's listening session—specifically for people who don't have the patience for full albums but still want to highlight great songwriters they haven't discovered yet—
...well, for those short on time—which is basically all of us lately, myself included—but who are following the thread and want to wrap their heads around why Led Zeppelin is legendary, or why an artist like Chuck Berry is such a genius... these two are perfect entry points into their work...
I also brought up a couple of posts regarding the better album Straight to the Bottom for anyone wondering why that band was such a top-tier American punk/post-punk outfit... the blues and rock influences hit harder later, which you can already hear on this record...
Anyway, just my quick little take—like I said, Lisa Davis, hope you're happy with my contribution to the thread. This isn't some formal essay; it's more like a quick chat during a break between classes... 🎉
I always figured that was just my teenage obsession, but honestly, I haven't heard anyone from the global punk or new wave scenes claim they recorded a live album even stronger than *Straight to the Bottom*.
My go-tos are *Talking Heads* and *It's Alive*, and that's pretty much it from me.

Darnielle doesn't deserve such a brutal boycott! Kung fu

Morgan Peterson said:Since when is dragging other users allowed here—especially when they're being super annoying to someone who’s basically just complaining about their own mess?
If we're playing by those rules, I'd love to start a few targeted threads with the names of people who drive me crazy right in the title—just giving everyone a heads-up and a green light to let loose.
It's honestly way more productive and helps real conversation more than just hitting the ignore button.
Well... the civilized route wasn't working. Honestly, spite beats logic every time, so I figured I'd just hit back below the belt.
Look, feel free to start a thread with my name if I'm getting on your nerves—I totally support that democratic choice right now, so don't overthink it, and definitely don't let any "is this feeling mutual?" existential crisis stop you.
Shouldn't All Hail West Texas get its own thread?

p.s. — man, I just can't get into Azru at all. 😁
Honestly, I started digging into them after they toured here—just read a solid concert review and was hooked.🙂
Wait—no, I don't think they were actually there. It was just some report from an outdoor concert on that old Pot list—can't seem to track it down anymore.

Chris Myers said:Can we get some consistency here—is moderation bad when it's strict, or is it bad when it isn't? 🤔
Look, moderating me isn't even the main issue—the real headache, way bigger than that, is that I can't post a single damn thing on The Search without some Wobbie telling me I'm losing my mind.
And it's not just me, either—it's been happening to plenty of others for months now, and we all know deep down it's nothing but pure trolling.
I think we're all aware that if I actually decided to go gloves-off and start calling out the provocateurs as untouchable idiots, I'd be the one facing the hammer.
neonpuma30 said:Back when the COVID threads were being moderated strictly out of Indianapolis😁, I used to get slapped with 500 (or 100, or 200, whatever) points for way more harmless posts than this. So, honestly—you actually did pretty well getting off with just 45 points for this string of insults; you really can't complain about that.
Besides, I don't get why the whole "COVID is fake" crowd gets so aggressive and loses their cool so fast. It was like that whenever I checked those threads, and it looks like nothing has really changed.🤷
There isn't a single insult in my post. That's literally why this thread exists.
Look, aside from the fact that this guy is condescending, rude, and (my favorite—you’ll remember if you grew up in the 90s) unreliable, he's impossible to argue with—and honestly, in certain situations, he’s earned every single insult he's taken on this forum.
The fact that someone like this is still posting and hasn't gone gray and silent forever is thanks to God knows what (we actually know why, but I'll keep quiet for aesthetic and safety reasons)—basically, we're looking at the literal definition of a troll, and a pretty successful version at that, because somehow, despite his "talents," he manages to rile people up, piss them off, and maybe even drive some more sensitive commenters to the brink of madness, which leads to an equally effective total wrecking of any discussion.
This intro is mostly just for show—the real point of this post is to issue a "Harassing Forum Members" card, worth a "45-point" mod penalty for the next post:
"Alright, we all know you're an unredeemable troll, but you can still choose not to be a complete jerk. Are you seriously trying to act like Reddit or something? >
If we assume (correctly) that moderators are beings who have evolved enough to have actual brains, there are three possible responses: "troll," "...choosing not to be a jerk," or "acting like Reddit."
The first one is proven, both in theory and practice—just look at this easy Wikipedia definition:
In internet slang, the term troll refers to a person who enters online communities such as forums, chat rooms,[1][2] newsgroups,[3], or blogs with the sole purpose of sending inflammatory,[4] mocking, rude, offensive, or off-topic messages to intentionally annoy other participants, stir up conflict, or disrupt the flow of conversation. >
The second point about choosing not to be a jerk comes from my irresistible humanistic instinct to give someone the benefit of the doubt before labeling them a jerk, and the third is just my sense of humor kicking in.
Some killer ethno-jazz here, Canada:
I’m telling you—music quality is tanking. Denying it is like saying service at the DMV won't go downhill if you cut their pay by 30%.
