Bad actors (A-list or close to it) in Movies ·
Watched Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit last night and honestly, I almost lost my lunch watching Keira Knightley's performance. 🙂
Sabotage (2014) in Movies ·
I have to agree with briskhound2 on this one.

Judge Dredd - 👍
John Carter, Escape Plan - 👎

When it comes to Arnold Schwarzenegger, I’ve always seen him as an actor who isn't exactly a master of the craft, BUT, man, he is incredibly charismatic and everyone just loves him. 😉
Non-stop [2014] in Movies ·
Caught a movie at the theater this past Saturday; it was either this or NFS. 🤣

The acting isn't groundbreaking, and the characters aren't exactly reinventing the wheel, but it’s got that classic old-school vibe. It actually hits you with that Executive Decision nostalgia, even though the movie just dropped two weeks ago. Honestly? It was surprisingly fun. A solid 7/10 for me—definitely didn't regret spending the $9.00 money on a ticket.

Lisa Myers said:A-ha, so it turns out... well, either way, the movie is absolutely fantastic, no question about it. As for the character himself—which is a totally separate issue from how good the film is—I can't help but wonder if his efforts to help people by recommending things like aloe or vitamins were purely driven by profit, or if he genuinely wanted to help (or, my guess is, both). Plus, some of the details regarding the disease itself feel inaccurate based on what we know today. I assume the screenwriter just stuck to the medical understanding available at the time the story takes place.

At first, it’s definitely the first one, but eventually, his motivations shift toward the second. Sure, profit was the initial driver behind "helping" folks, but after going through so much personal pain during the filming and seeing the struggles other people deal with, he couldn't just keep doing it for the paycheck. That's the whole point of the story—that transformation into a "true hero," opening his eyes and breaking free from that shallow, one-dimensional way of looking at life.

That's just how I saw it. 😉
Watched it last night... I didn't really vibe with the first Anchorman when I rewatched it recently, so this one was definitely better. But let's not get ahead of ourselves—it wasn't a huge leap. Honestly, Farrell's constant, intentional overacting with all those facial expressions drives me crazy. Maybe that kind of humor just isn't my thing, but whatever... I did get a good laugh out of a few bits (again, not because of the overrated Farrell, but thanks to some other talented actors), and that cameo montage at the end is pretty unexpected. I'd give it a solid 6/10. 😉
Still waiting on the translation... I could just do it in English, but honestly, it doesn't feel right. 😉
The Movie 'Masters in Movies ·
When I first saw the headline, I thought we were going to be discussing cinematic masters like Kubrick or Hitchcock. Then I realized this thread was about the movie *Masters*. Silly me. 🤣

Anyway, I'm skipping this one. Just like every other American film.
The Monuments Men (2014) in Movies ·
Caught this at the theater yesterday... and man, what can I say? It’s definitely not the garbage people are making it out to be, but it’s not exactly a masterpiece either. There’s always something there—something visually cool, interesting, or funny—but it all feels kind of hollow. I get the feeling they left a massive amount of potential on the table because the characters just aren't fleshed out enough. I want to draw a parallel to Mann's film Heat from 1995. See, the first half of this movie is just straight-up slow and tedious. You're constantly waiting for the moment things actually start happening, and by the time it arrives, half the audience has already checked out. We see a similar setup in Heat, where the first half is a slow, dramatic introduction to the characters before the second half turns into a pure action thriller. But here’s the kicker: what makes Heat such a superior film is that you're never bored during that buildup. Plus, it forces you to actually get to know and care about the characters, whereas with Monuments, that connection never really happens. It's also worth noting that in the second half, everyone is finally together, scouring > for art, unlike the first half where everyone is scattered in tiny groups and the pacing jumps all over the place. That's how the trailer sold me on it, and that's exactly what I wanted, but even when it finally delivered, it wasn't quite at the level I was hoping for.

I should also mention that the movie can't seem to decide on its own tone. It swings between being a drama and a comedy, though I'll give it a pass on that since it did manage to deliver some great scenes for both genres. All in all, I don't regret seeing it, even if it could have been executed much better.

Disappointing 6/10.
Nebraska (2013) in Movies ·
Why not? To me, it just leans into that sense of emptiness you get in an American Midwest setting. 🤷
Dallas Buyers Club (2013) in Movies ·
I skipped both Magic Mike and Killer Joe featuring Matthew McConaughey back in the day, though for totally different reasons. Honestly, after hitting this run of Mud, DBC, and The Lincoln Lawyer, I’m seriously considering finally giving them a shot. Screw it... I'm watching them ASAP. 😍

I'd also highly recommend checking out The Lincoln Lawyer.
Nebraska (2013) in Movies ·
Caught this last night and honestly, I’m feeling pretty great about it. It’s just a simple, breezy watch—lighthearted, a bit funny, great acting, and the cinematography is top-notch. Most importantly, it’s just a really charming flick. 8/10.
Dallas Buyers Club (2013) in Movies ·
I’d definitely suggest checking out last year's Mud, too—McConaughey is absolutely killing it in that one. 🙂
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990-2007) in Movies ·
Kevin Ward3 said:Honestly, these designs look pretty damn cool. If the movie can actually deliver on the level of Transformers (2007), I'll be more than happy.☕

Same here. I wouldn't call the first TF a masterpiece by any means, but it’s a blast—just a fun, quasi-sci-fi action flick. If this one hits that same level, it's an easy 5/5 from me.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990-2007) in Movies ·
First look at the Turtles and Shredder. Granted, we're seeing them via action figures here, so they'll probably look a bit different on the big screen, but still... I have to say, this looks way better and cooler than I ever expected.

I’ve been trying to catch this movie for three weeks now, I swear. Just waiting on some decent English subtitles to drop, but nothing yet. 🙂

There was a massive crowd watching... myself included. Just tell me what specifically you want to know about it?

EDIT: I just realized you've been posting everywhere about how much you loved the movie. 🤣 Look, it’s fine... not everyone is going to love it. For me, it’s incredible and easily in my top 10 of the year, but you've gotta respect other perspectives. Not everyone has the same taste.
86th Academy Awards / 2014 Oscars in Movies ·
I put my vote in for Captain Phillips since I absolutely love that movie, though I figured it wouldn't pull in a ton of votes. Honestly, though, Her probably made the biggest impression on me. Sadly, I haven't gotten around to seeing Philomena or Nebraska yet for obvious reasons.

But seriously, all the movies on this list are great. The quality difference between them is pretty negligible, at least in my book.

Been slammed all week, so I’m catching up tonight with Her, Inside Llewyn Davis, and August: Osage County before I finally put my list together. I've got high hopes for the first two, so let's see how they land...
Golden Globes 2014 in Movies ·
Caught last night's recording, and honestly... I've got a few thoughts on the ceremony itself. It was quite the ride. There were some total snoozefests, some parts were actually interesting, a couple of moments were super awkward, and then there were bits that were just pure comedy gold.

The highlight;

Full video here.🙏 🙏

Also, seeing George Clooney and his wife, that whole stage freakout near the San Francisco Bay area, and Shia LaBeouf being hilarious—plus a bunch of other ridiculous moments—was pretty funny.
When trailers lie (SPOILER THREAD) in Movies ·
Bryan Taylor9 said:It honestly drives me crazy when they shove a scene into a 🙂 just because it isn't even in the actual movie.

Go ahead and roast me since I can't think of a single 🙂 right now,
but you all know how often this happens.

Example: trailer for Wolverine—specifically that fight where Wolverine goes up against those bike-riding ninjas in the snow, around the 1:55 to 1:58 mark. It wasn't in the theatrical release, though they eventually tacked it onto the extended versions on DVD/Blu-ray later on.
