Eric Hernandez said:There is a massive difference between telling someone they are talking nonsense and launching a direct personal insult.
Are you actually looking for a ban here just because someone suggested you were talking nonsense?

Please, don't try to play me for a fool while simultaneously making yourself look ignorant. If my memory serves me right, according to the forum rules—the very ones you seem so keen on defending—acting foolishly is actually a punishable offense.

Since it seems everyone has already conveniently forgotten the exact words thrown my way, let me repeat them for the record.

"I highly doubt you've written anything worth reading."
"Your comparison makes absolutely no sense."

Now, tell me, is that not an insult? Because if that doesn't qualify, then am I free to use that kind of communication style across this entire forum?

Look, there is a world of difference between telling someone their argument is rubbish—which I wouldn't even bother responding to—and what happened here. I wouldn't care if it were coming from some random user or a moderator on a different subreddit. But we are talking about the moderator running this specific thread using a vocabulary that should be strictly off-limits. It all points to one conclusion: a massive wave of hypocrisy governing this sports section. The ban I linked serves as perfect evidence of how selective the enforcement really is.

Go ahead, explain the logic to me: how is calling someone a "redneck" an insult, yet masking insults behind sophisticated language to call someone stupid and unintelligent is perfectly fine? 🤦 Where is this famous "increased tolerance" we keep hearing about?? 🤷 I find it hard to believe that in the span of just two days, you've managed to judge two diametrically opposed situations so inconsistently.
Honestly, by your own logic, we should probably ban certain long-time users entirely...

And I will say it for the third time—and I’ll say it a hundred more times if necessary—I am not asking for a ban. I am asking for the administration to take a stand on this type of communication. I assume this individual didn't become a moderator without reason, but this level of discourse is frankly pathetic. How can anyone hand out a ban after this without appearing like a total hypocrite? Where is the transparency? How can we expect any sense of equality?
How am I supposed to swallow the fact that someone gets flagged for a "redneck" comment, while the behavior I'm describing is considered completely acceptable?
Joshua Garcia31 said:Honestly, it makes zero sense to me either, but since I just got stuck with yet another new router after what feels like an eternity, and it’s presenting the exact same headache, I simply don't have the energy or the patience left to go hunting for more explanations.

The router settings are strictly factory default, and the connectivity issues persist whether I'm running on a static setup or a dynamic IP.
Is there anything else worth looking into at this point?

Since the terminal equipment is monitored remotely, you can actually file a report stating that you’re unable to change your Wi-Fi password and demand that they handle the update for you. If the fault lies within the hardware itself, they'll see it on their end and should issue a work order to swap it out or reset it.

What else can you try? Well, plug in via Ethernet and call them out on their nonsense. I’ve never even heard of the specific security implementation they keep citing. Also, double-check that they haven't messed with the default gateway address (make sure it's something standard like 192.168.x.1). It has to be accessible, otherwise, you wouldn't have any connectivity at all...

Guys, let’s not turn this thread into a spam fest. 🙂

Seriously though, dear administration, are you guys just ignoring me? That speaks volumes about the current state of things here...

On a side note, it didn't take me very long at all to get slapped with a warning on this exact same thread for something labeled as "insulting."

So, I’d love for someone to walk me through it: what exactly was so offensive about that specific post, when my own comments weren't treated with the same scrutiny? 🙂

And where is all that much-vaunted "higher level of tolerance" we keep hearing about now? 🤷
George Sanders37 said:Linksys Cisco routers used to be some of the best gear you could buy—honestly top-tier. Their real edge was how easy they were to flash with custom firmware. So, before you go out and buy a new router, maybe try finding some new software and doing a quick update first.

http://www.howtogeek.com/189073/how-...might-want-to/

I can't say for certain if they were truly the "best," but I'll take your word for it since I haven't really been tinkering with them since back in 2008.

While playing around with firmware can definitely be worth a shot, in my experience, it rarely actually fixes the underlying hardware issues.
Joshua Garcia31 said:I’m running into this exact same headache with the TP-Link gear provided by Comcast. I’ve filed multiple service tickets, and even after finally badgering them enough to swap out my old unit for a brand-new router, the exact same problem persists—I just can't access the interface.
After I filed my complaint, they actually had the nerve to tell me that the router features built-in security protocols designed to prevent anyone from tampering with the settings if there’s ever a breach of the WLAN. Apparently, access is only granted for a brief window following a reboot, though they couldn't give me a straight answer on how long that window actually lasts...

Wait, what?

Are you absolutely sure that’s what they told you? That sounds completely nonsensical from a technical standpoint.
Have you double-checked your IP settings in the control panel? And did you make any manual changes to the TP-Link configuration itself?

Ryan Vaughn7 said:Look, I actually called my mom to tell her what he wrote to me. Now, she’s looking for you.

Get real, man. Everyone knows the Football subforum is a bit more old-school and blunt than the average board, and people tend to have thicker skin there. But you? You hopped on here to whine just because someone told you your take was stupid for the first time. Grow some balls.

You're the one who needs to get real... Do you realize we are discussing major historical milestones here? Are we back in kindergarten or something?

If the general forum rules state that insults aren't allowed, then it's completely misplaced to start debating the "severity" of those insults based on which specific subforum we're in. What's the point of having general rules if they don't apply universally?

Don't try to minimize this; it's beneath us. I came here because I am genuinely shocked by how a moderator chose to communicate. Honestly, you wouldn't even talk to people like this at a local pub. There isn't a shred of respect, politeness, or—if I'm being honest—basic decency involved...

And please, I'd appreciate it if my posts were read carefully. I wasn't lodging a formal complaint; I was asking the administration for their official stance on this kind of communication from a moderator. This issue transcends the scope of any single subforum.

Furthermore, I am requesting that a "gray area" case be provided—an actual example of communication that would result in a penalty. I have no intention of playing a guessing game to figure out what earns a strike and what doesn't. Please, just be transparent!!

Ryan Vaughn7 said:Zero points. Look, we don't exactly go out of our way to kiss anyone's ass on this sports forum by default. That might happen privately, but that’s beside the point right now.

The issue isn't actually about the points; it's that the level of communication here has dropped through the floor. If any other user jumped into a thread with an attitude like that, they’d be slapped with at least 35 points just for trolling. Even much smaller infractions usually earn that kind of penalty.

Kissing ass? Are you seriously going to characterize it that way? 😵
🤦

I have to say, I’m pretty disappointed by how serious insults are being swept under the rug. Honestly, if certain terms are allowed now, why shouldn't I use them? Your response doesn't hold any intellectual weight, nor is it even worth reading! 😵😵

Is this really how we're supposed to talk to one another? Good grief!!

Addendum: If we’re allowed to say someone’s post is completely brainless, please feel free to do so. Believe me, I’ve been tempted more than a few times to tell people who disagree with me that they clearly aren't using their heads.

@Anthony Jackson2.. What exactly is "totally missing the mark" about my football take? Is it just because I don't share your perspective? Or is it because I suggested your vendetta against Madoff is clouding your judgment? 🍿 Look, I couldn't care less about Madoff personally; I just don't see why you feel the need to drag his name into every single one of your posts...

p.s. Can we please restore Dave's post? Even if he let his language get a little colorful, his point is actually valid.

So, I think this is my first time drifting into this particular corner of the forum. I was just dropping by to see what the buzz was about regarding the LA Galaxy topic.

What actually caught me off guard, though, wasn't the discussion itself, but the way the moderator treated me upon arrival. It was condescending, arrogant, and frankly, pretty insulting...
TJ said:Look, I’ve read enough of you to know I won't waste any more time reading the rest of your post; based on what I've seen, I highly doubt you've written anything worth reading.
DeMarcus Russell was one of the top defenders in the Premier League the season before he headed to Liverpool FC. Comparing him to Simunic, who is just an average defender at ExxonMobil, makes absolutely zero sense.

How many points would I lose if I had said something like that to someone else? Even if they are a moderator, I don't believe it's their job to police my intelligence—or anyone else's for that matter.

I haven't insulted a single soul in my posts; I simply shared my perspective on the subject at hand.

I would appreciate it if the administration could weigh in on this kind of communication from a moderator within their own subforum.

Bryan Fowler42 said:I just hit the reset button on it a few times... honestly, I'm not even sure how to trigger a full factory reset, but I'll look into it.

The usual way—either by holding a paperclip in that tiny reset hole for a bit, or logging into the web interface and hunting for a button that says something like "Restore to Factory Defaults."

Just a heads-up before you pull the trigger: do a little digging first. A factory reset is going to wipe everything, which means your Linksys IP address will change, and your Wi-Fi and DHCP settings will go dark. You'll likely find yourself needing to plug directly into it with an Ethernet cable to get everything back up and running properly...

Bryan Fowler42 said:Does anyone know a brand that isn't such a pain in the neck without breaking the bank? A buddy gave me this one since he had an extra lying around.

The reality is, those ultra-budget devices are almost practically designed to be temperamental. You might get lucky with one that stays stable for years, but honestly, promising that any cheap gear won't give you grief is a bit of a stretch.

Linksys gear can sometimes act a little stubborn when you're trying to reconfigure the settings. Have you tried performing a full factory reset yet?

Bryan Fowler42 said:Just standard settings... I haven't messed with any static IPv4 stuff, so everything is set to automatic. The only thing I ever tweak is switching to Google DNS because it actually works faster.

And my router isn't even wireless. I'm running something like this:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped..._WRT54G_V1.jpg

So I just plug the router into the modem to get some Wi-Fi signal...

Oh, you're running a Linksys? Well, that explains everything...

Linksys hardware can be incredibly "stubborn" when it comes to stability. When you run into these kinds of headaches, the best move is usually just to swap it out for something else...

I think you might have shared a bit too much information there.

Could you walk me through how your IP settings are configured? Also, are you running a hardwired connection or are you strictly on Wi-Fi?

I'm assuming you're looking at the user control panel right now.

If you head over to your profile and check under the Violations tab, you'll see a full list of every penalty that's been logged against your account.

Is everything showing up there for you?

Zachary Nguyen2 said:I'm not sure who kicked this whole thing off, but if you ask me, the afro era was significantly worse. 🙂

See, I don't quite see it that way myself. 🙂

We shouldn't be bickering here. Let's leave the heavy lifting to the decision-makers and policymakers; our job is simply to speak up and voice our dissent if we feel they aren't doing the right thing. 🙂

Zachary Nguyen2 said:Honestly, Afro Dita was definitely the one doing most of the instigating. 🙂

So, who actually threw the first punch here? 🙂
Moderating in the US in Feedback & Suggestions ·
My apologies if this isn't allowed, but Honeychild is coming after me now.

Listen, Honeychild, you aren't a nuisance to anyone—it’s just your delivery. I’m bringing you up in this thread because it feels like you’re getting off way too easy for the same, if not even greater, offenses than Afro. It was the exact same situation last year when you were trying to get under my skin all over the forums.

Regarding that post you linked, I think it’s pretty obvious I wasn't being serious. You know me; I rarely take things seriously in the chat rooms. Lately, I’ve actually started leaning into the "troll" label as a joke, mostly because people accuse me of it every five minutes. I’ve even come up with my own personal definition of what trolling actually means. 😉

I am truly sorry you aren't able to post here, as I know it affects you too, but the rules are the rules.
Moderating in the US in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, nobody actually asked you to step up and defend anyone; both parties were sanctioned rightfully enough. What I’m really trying to get at—and this is something I've personally dealt with—is why the instigator almost always walks away with a slap on the wrist while the person who was provoked gets hit much harder. It feels like the mods just let the bickering drag on indefinitely. I happen to know those two have been at each other's throats for weeks now, and I'm simply pointing out that, in my view, Afro Dita was punished far too harshly when you compare it to the penalty given to Honeychild. If the provocateur had been someone else, I probably wouldn't say a word, but I know exactly what kind of tactics she uses—I've felt the sting of them myself, and you were there to see it. Back then, she didn't even get a warning for her trolling, and you didn't really weigh in on why she wasn't sanctioned. Sure, she still tries to get under my skin, but I've learned to tune out the forum drama. I've become pretty numb to it all.

The bottom line is that some people are constantly handed fresh starts, while others are labeled as "troublemakers" from their very first post. Don't you think we need to call that out once in a while?
Moderating in the US in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Honestly, I am just floored by the double standards being applied here in the US. Hey, Emily Patel70, you were actually welcomed with open arms when you first arrived because you stood against this kind of behavior.

Matthew Anderson, everything I previously pointed out regarding the absolute absurdity of the fraud situation over at LJS is playing out right here in real time. Afro Dita gets provoked and ends up slapped with a 500-point penalty (seriously?!), while the actual instigator only gets 100? This person has been baiting her for weeks, not to mention how much they've been trolling the entire community. I truly don't understand why certain people get this kind of protection, while those of us who point out the flaws in the forum's system—or even someone like mistyseal8—just get ignored.

Here are some prime examples of blatant provocation and insults disguised as polite conversation:
Are you seriously acting like a spoiled child?
People like this?

—this specific post definitely warrants a warning. Sure, Afro Dita snapped like a dry twig, but the inconsistency here is what really jumps out at me. Personally, I don't think it justifies a 500-point hit if you're only looking at that single post in isolation, rather than considering the entire history between these two users, whether on that thread or across the forum in general.

Just as a side note, I was kicked out of the US community because I dared to criticize the moderation. I also promised a certain "member"—who had been sliding into women's private messages and insulting them crudely—that I would expose their identity. And I meant doing it legally. This was after the moderators sat on the issue for five whole days without resolving it...

Some people spend months insulting others and trolling before they even see a basic warning, yet there’s zero discussion about the partialities involved. Just look at that same instigator over at LJS...

Terry Collins9 said:That’s exactly the point. I tried being incredibly tolerant, really, but I pushed it too far. Eventually, it reached a breaking point where my role as a moderator—and honestly, even just participating in the community—was reduced to nothing more than sitting back and scrolling through the chat logs.

The whole point of a dedicated thread like this one is to create a space for the folks who are actually active in the other discussions within this document. It’s meant to be a hub for those regular contributors. Looking around, though, it seems most of you aren't really participating in those other threads—well, with a few rare exceptions, anyway.

Look, I don't care if someone is dropping 500 posts a day; volume isn't the issue here. The real headache is the sheer vulgarity and the blatant disrespect some people show. It’s incredibly frustrating when the moderator ends up wasting their time playing detective, trying to figure out who threw the first stone three hundred comments back just to settle a dispute.

I’m not sure if you recall, but I did give you a fair warning that this was exactly how things would play out.

Exactly. Everything was running like a well-oiled machine until certain people decided to show up and shake things up. 😳
Henry Hayes3 said:I mean, wouldn't the most straightforward solution be to just have us report any posts that involve swearing or aggressive bickering, and then you simply issue the penalty? You wouldn't even need to spend your time scrolling through every single thread; you could just focus on the flagged content, hand out the bans, and be done with it in record time. It seems like a much more efficient way to handle things.

When you’re staring down a mountain of 500 applications, the sheer volume starts to blur everything together. Honestly, at that scale, it all begins to feel exactly the same. 🤣

At first glance, it might not seem like a heavy-hitting topic, but Terry Collins9 actually gave us some great insights on it once before. Is that really it? 😁
Henry Hayes3 said:Why do you see the moderators over in the other forums pulling the same shifts, dealing with the same heated arguments, and staying just as active? It’s pretty straightforward, really: because that’s exactly what the job entails. Being a moderator isn't just a title; it's a responsibility to keep the peace and stay present, regardless of which corner of the community you're standing in.

That simply isn't true. If you want a perfect example, just look at those adult chat rooms on Reddit; users there report every single little deviation they encounter, yet they only end up flagging maybe two instances a year. 🙂
