Thoughts on the 2017 remake of The Crow? in Movies ·
image

It’s looking pretty certain now: Jason Momoa is going to take a breather between Justice League and the Aquaman standalone movie to star in The long-delayed remake of The Crow. We finally got a sneak peek today at how the Game of Thrones actor will look like as Eric Draven. The image comes courtesy of fan art from ComicBook.com and render maestro boss Logic.

After playing Conan the Barbarian in a remake of that Fantasy adventure and Making his first appearance as Aquaman in Batman V Superman, Jason Momoa will next take on his underwater superhero in Justice League. Everyone assumed he’d jump straight into a solo spin-off right after, but it looks like the plans have shifted. He'll instead take The lead in The long-gestating remake of The Crow—which is aiming for a 2018 release—before the Aquaman solo flick hits theaters.

This New version of The Crow is reportedly aiming to be a much tighter adaptation of the original graphic novel by James O'Barr. Back in '94, Alex Proyas brought that story to life with Brandon Lee in the starring role. As many fans know, an on-set accident took The Life of Lee. While there have been several low-budget sequels since then, they never quite hit the mark with the audience. Now, Producer of The original 1994 cult classic ED Pressman is back to guide this latest iteration. Expect it to feel a lot grittier than the typical Warner Bros. Pictures superhero fare we're seeing lately.

Momoa basically confirmed he’s snagged the role of Eric Draven by sharing a shot on Instagram. You can see him grabbing drinks with The Crow director Corin Hardy, where he mentions landing what feels like a "dream job." Right now, The Crow is The only movie Hardy is known to be casting. Insiders have already confirmed that Jason Momoa is officially in talks to join The Crow as its lead character. The team is currently shuffling the calendar so Momoa can balance this with his heavy Aquaman commitments, though we don't have any word yet on potential cameos in other films. The Crow will follow musician Eric Draven, who rises from the grave to hunt down his killers and seek justice for his late fiancée, aided by a mysterious bird. Word is, The Crow is Said to be ' One of The crown jewels in Relativity's coffers' as the studio works toward Bankruptcy and restore its Reputation in Hollywood.

We still don't have a firm start date for filming. This remake has been a bit of a rollercoaster over the last ten years, with more directors and leads cycling through than you can count. Jack Huston was previously lined up to lead the charge, but his busy schedule forced him to step away. Next up, we'll see Momoa in The Bad Batch alongside Keanu Reeves, plus roles in the indie flick Going Under and the actioner Braven. Check out this fan art showing what Momoa might look like as Eric Draven.

NETFLIX IS PLANNING A SUPERNATURAL MANGA ADAPTATION OF DEATH NOTE.
A fresh report out of The Hollywood Reporter suggests that director Adam Wingard is joining forces with Netflix to bring the iconic Death Note series to life. We might see Nat Wolff—who really stood out in the indie darling Paper Towns—taking a lead role, alongside Margaret Qualley. There’s even talk that Netflix is eyeing Keith Stanfield for the cast, though they haven't officially extended an offer for him to join the adaptation of the manga series just yet.

I don't get why everyone is slamming the trailer with dislikes. It looks pretty decent to me; we'll just have to wait and see how the actual movie turns out.

According to Wikipedia, the movie is set to hit theaters on February 26, 2016.

I actually thought the 2007 version held up pretty well. Based on this trailer, the new one looks like it's going to be great.

Does anyone happen to know the release date for the movie?
Taken 2 (2012) in Movies ·
The first part is spot on, the second one is a bit hit-or-miss, and the third part is just plain nonsense.

This could be a winner.

Exactly. My point was that this movie doesn't go overboard like World War Z—which is honestly a total disaster and only got decent reviews because Brad Pitt is in it. Obviously, zombies aren't real, but even if they were, I highly doubt they could scale walls like spiders or leap a hundred feet into the air like they’re some distant relative of Spider-Man. 😬
Mad Max: Fury Road (2014) in Movies ·
In World War Z, those zombies actually leap onto a helicopter mid-flight and start scaling the side. To me, that movie feels at least a bit more grounded in reality.

Great movie. Forget World War Z—this is the gold standard for what a zombie flick should actually be!

I’m a huge fan of zombie flicks—especially the ones where the gore is flying everywhere!😬

Another Stephen King novel is heading to the big screen. This one is "Cell," an apocalyptic horror story triggered by cell phones. It all starts on a typical day in America when everyone who answers their cell phone receives a "pulse"—a sudden electrical surge straight to the brain. This pulse turns users into mindless, bloodthirsty monsters. The survivors, those lucky enough to have been away from their devices, have to band together to find a way to survive. The film features heavy hitters Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack. Keaton Rydell (played by John Cusack) is an artist from Maine getting ready to celebrate landing a deal with a new publishing house. But on his way there, a mysterious signal hits the global network, turning phone users into killers. Shaken by the chaos, Keaton begins searching for other survivors, eventually crossing paths with Tom McCourt (Samuel L. Jackson), who seems to have some answers. Filming kicked off back in January.

briskhound2 said:Look, they're robots. Transformers are basically just oversized robots. I don't see why they wouldn't count as science fiction. They aren't using magic to power up or casting spells at their enemies; everything about them operates within the laws of physics—they're just highly advanced.

Sure, if you ignore the fact that they're hyper-advanced, come from a planet called Cybertron that doesn't exist, somehow speak fluent English, and have the ability to transform into vehicles.
Sci-Fi or Fantasy: The ultimate debate in Movies ·
Science fiction either explores things that are scientifically impossible or concepts that might actually become reality down the road. That’s why superhero movies don't really fall under the sci-fi umbrella—after all, Transformers aren't real, and they aren't going to be anytime soon.
Sci-Fi or Fantasy: The ultimate debate in Movies ·
To me, Sci-Fi is all about exploring the "what if" scenarios—like, what would happen if certain conditions changed? On the other hand, I see Fantasy as more of a "what if this actually existed" concept, like when you see dragons and other mythical creatures in those epic movies.

I think you're missing the point. In the movie, he dies and then relives that exact same day all over again. Time travel belongs firmly in the realm of Science Fiction, not fantasy. You don't need a spaceship to make a movie Sci-Fi; there are plenty of great examples set right here on Earth:

Divergent (2014)

The Hunger Games

Oblivion (2013)

District 9

Chappie (2015)

Robocop (2014)

and so on

cosmicgull said:I actually agree, because they never really explain how those time loops function (setting the plot aside). It feels similar to Predestination, where the guy uses some kind of violin (or whatever) 😁
to travel through time. Seriously?
How is that example any different from the Tooth Fairy?

In Edge of Tomorrow, the protagonist isn't actually traveling through time; he’s just reliving the exact same day over and over. Since the movie features aliens and futuristic spacecraft, it's definitely Sci-Fi, not fantasy. To me, fantasy movies are the ones filled with dragons, fairies, wizards, trolls, and that sort of thing...

Edge of Tomorrow Fantasy? I wouldn't call it that.

Great movie. I’m a huge fan of crime thrillers, so this one really hit the spot for me. That Hardy showed everyone exactly why they're such an incredible actor!
