hiddenviper17 said:So, what did he actually say?

Nothing. Honestly, it was more of a monologue on my part than an actual conversation. He just sat there with his hands and face practically screaming, "Yeah, I really messed this up," so I just kept moving since the light turned green.

So, I had a little "heart-to-heart" this morning with some absolute genius who decided to pull a U-turn right in front of me, blocking the whole lane without even glancing to see if anyone was coming. As if that wasn't enough, he then had the nerve to cruise straight into the center lane right in my path—no blinker, nothing! Luckily, the light turned red, giving me the perfect chance to pull up next to him with my window cracked just enough to ask: "Hey, is this how you actually learned to drive?"

Can we please dial back the constant bickering and flaming? Let's just stick to the topic at hand!

Look, if you two can't get along, just take it to Instant Messaging or settle it over a beer!

So, is that claim about how things are running at Verizon actually false?

Starting the second sentence.

After taking a closer look at the situation, the warnings are staying put.

Case 1: A moderator's call. A moderator has every right to manage their own sub-forum however they see fit.

Case 2: "Mark is secretly a troll" — according to the sub-forum rules (reddit.com/thread), it's strictly prohibited to provoke, insult, or "trash talk." Negative criticism is allowed, but it has to stay within the bounds of decent, civilized behavior.

Case 3: Advertising a company where the user is actually employed.

Case 4: In addition to the existing sub-forum rules (reddit.com/thread), the moderator gave specific instructions on this thread: don't just spam posts one after another—use the edit function or multi-quote instead. That warning was issued specifically for failing to follow those directions.

Besides, two out of these four disputed warnings have already expired anyway.

Desiree said:What are the editorial possibilities on Reddit?
Reddit is privately owned by Nielsen. Most of the editorial staff on Reddit are actually volunteers who were chosen to take on this "job." They have the power to:
  • Time to switch things up!
  • Should we start changing thread titles?
  • Deleting posts and threads?
  • Moving posts/threads?
  • Locking threads?

I'll get back to this a bit later!

😵 😵

Plus, like 80% of what they have listed online isn't even available... 🙄

A few small items are fine by me, no big deal there.
But when I’m dropping the kid off at his grandma's before work and picking him up after, I really need space for his clothes, a water bottle, random gear, and ideally a little toy or two. I need serious room! I’m not even counting diapers—those things are way too bulky for panniers. 😬
jadetiger962 said:There are bags available, they just cost more. You could go with those separate bags instead of traditional panniers that stay attached to the rack.

I've searched and found nothing. 😢 🤷Any ideas where else I should look?
Honestly, price isn't even my main concern (as long as it's within a reasonable range), I just desperately need something to take the weight off my back during this brutal summer heat!

jadetiger962 said:Of course you can improvise! Back when I had an old bike with disc brakes, I couldn't use a heavy-duty rear rack, so I moved everything to the front on a specific rack and even rigged up a little metal roof so I could mount standard panniers.

I'm not sure if this is clear enough:

I have disc brakes on mine too. Should I expect a total circus trying to install a front rack? (The rear one works perfectly, even with the disc).

Hey everyone!
I could really use some advice, opinions, or even just a quick suggestion. Ever since I mounted a kid's seat on my bike and started riding it on my morning commute, I've completely lost all my pannier space. Right now, I'm stuck lugging everything around in a backpack, and honestly, I'm over it.
I haven't had any luck finding decent front-wheel racks. I might actually be willing to settle for something like this

but I can't find any bags that actually attach to it. 🤷

Does anyone have any ideas, even if it's just a DIY improvisation?

Oh man, that brings back memories! We all grew up with those old Bendix parts... what a ride! 🙂

I was already using that audio accessory way before it even became trendy with the hipsters! 🧐 😬

brightranger43 said:I honestly have no idea how you even pull that off! How do you do it? Seriously, what's your secret? Can I please see a photo? 😁

I don't have a photo to show you, but here’s the instruction manual!
Ever tried a little DIY hack? Grab an empty yogurt container and cut out a strip about half an inch wide. Then, just use a clothespin to attach that strip to the chainstay—right where it meets the rear axle. Once you start riding, the spokes will tap against the strip, creating this awesome little rhythmic clicking sound. Honestly, who doesn't love a bit of extra personality on their bike? 👋

Nicole Castillo26 said:Sarah Castillo74, where on earth did you find that????

Back in the day—we're talking the 80s and early 90s—you’d find all that stuff at local flea markets or roadside stands, just rows of cheap plastic toys and random junk. Personally, I never bothered assembling any of them. Why would I? It always seemed like such a chore!
Who should be the next mod for VIC? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Since we’ve pretty much covered this whole subject over on the other thread, and there isn't an Amtrak official around to weigh in, I’m going to go ahead and close this one myself. If the admins or mods decide later on that I was wrong, so be it!

🙂
Why was the 'funny photo' thread deleted? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Just my two cents on this:

1) For the protesters: please, let’s try to keep things civil and respectful. If we lose our cool, nobody is going to listen to what we actually want, right?
2) For the admins: why don't we hold off on locking anything down until the moderator in question has a chance to weigh in?
feraltrucker5 said:Well, you shouldn't have anyway—it was way more entertaining this way. 😁

Honestly, he really needed someone to break it to him that the moderators are basically lab-grown specimens, and only the absolute elite models get promoted to admin status. 😬

Richard Perez3 said:Alright, fine. I’ll try to actually be constructive here, even though I really don't feel like it. 😬

You can't just jump straight to being a General in the Army before you've even finished basic training.

You can't become an admin without first proving yourself as a moderator.

And you can't be a moderator until you've proven yourself as a solid member of the community.

Seriously, please don't make me get all "constructive" over questions like this again. 😁 😁 😁

Honestly, it doesn't get any more obvious than that.
A private is never going to become a general. Unless they somehow manage to blast through military academy—which is pretty wild to think about—because if someone actually had those kinds of ambitions, wouldn't they just head straight to the academy and come out as a lieutenant? That way, they’d skip right over all the NCO ranks entirely!
Jeremy Davis7 said:Michelle Alvarez8,
wait, so you used to be a moderator?

What actually went down there... if you don't mind me asking...
Did you just lose interest, or did you get into some kind of beef with someone...!?

How long were you actually running the show?

PS.
I get how a potential candidate gets picked out, but I'm a little lost on what happens once they say yes—like, how do you actually motivate them? And honestly, I have no clue how someone even gets let go... or "retired."

🤣

Yeah, they definitely did. 😬
Jeremy Davis7 said:This caught me off guard, too.

A supermoderator!?

I gotta admit, my ego just took a little boost... now that I've finally dragged the truth out into the light.
😉

I honestly had no idea something like that even existed... though I figured there had to be someone operating at a "higher level of responsibility" (professionally speaking) actually managing how the whole system runs.

So, does any kind of reward or incentive system exist for volunteer moderators?
What am I getting at here?
Most mods basically just deal with keeping the subreddits clean.
Some are better at it than others.
But beyond just housekeeping, there's a mountain of potential initiatives (personally, I've got 100,000 ideas) that could make this forum way more engaging.
I remember stumbling upon one such thing on the Religion subreddit once, started by Shadi; it was a debate duel with a set topic that had everything a good duel needs: challengers, defenders of a position, and an audience of spectators to award points and declare a winner... you name it.

As a born spectator myself, I thought that idea was brilliant.
It’s a shame it never really took off, mostly because the mod didn't have much motivation to actually follow through with it.
When I hit him up via PM to ask if anyone was even encouraging him—since he was clearly trying to be creative and add actual value to the sub—he told me flat out that nobody was.
Turns out he wasn't getting paid a dime, he was doing everything as a volunteer, and any attempt he made to improve the sub just fell on deaf ears...

Look, I work in HR and talent development, so if I can offer some advice to those of you receiving the checks: take this stuff into account. Figure out a way to incentivize and reward this kind of effort (organizing something like that is child's play for someone who actually lives for this stuff... believe me on that).
Rewards don't always have to be cash... there are plenty of other "motivational tools" out there...

I think everyone would benefit from it.
Mainly because the quality of the forum would jump to a whole new level.
You'd make it a much more interesting "place" and, naturally, drive up the traffic.

PS.
There's an idea for one of those corporate retreats you guys surely host... at least, I hope you do.
If I were the boss... I'd reward an initiative like that heavily (especially if you could successfully implement it and—God forbid—scale the concept to the other countries where the forum operates).

With a 13th paycheck, an iPod, a 24-hour car service, or a romantic candlelit dinner (with drumming, if you're into that)😍...wtwr

God bless ya.

🙂

Whoops! I definitely need to cut this thing down to the roots. 😲

Money, cars, food: absolute perfection! I am always down for that. If we want to go all out with candles, why not?
I've got three iPods on my hands, so I'm thinking about trading them in for a 128 GB SSD if that's an option. Anyone up for a swap? 😬

As for that drum kit? Honestly, I bet he’d change his mind real quick if he saw me behind it! 😬
