Can a name cause trauma? in Psychology ·
This is a serious matter—names can cause deep-seated trauma during childhood. Peers can be incredibly ruthless when it comes to teasing, and a child stuck with an unusual name often doesn't have the tools to handle that kind of stress.

Alex Thomas27 said:A psychiatrist out in rural Alabama is actually claiming that patients with mental health issues should be kept in the dark if they get diagnosed with cancer.

Honestly, who’s the crazy one here? Doesn't a patient have the basic right to know their own medical reality?

What would you guys do if you were stuck in that position? Say you're a nurse or a doctor and you're legally or ethically obligated to break that news to someone with a mental illness?

You’re asking who’s the crazy one!? 🙄
The psychiatrist is actually right—though I suspect the statement was taken out of context. In cases where a terminal diagnosis is certain—say, the patient has maybe 10 to 30 days left—that news isn't "usually" shared even with "mentally stable" family members, let alone someone prone to suicide or a schizophrenic patient (where there's a legitimate risk they might endanger others due to their condition).

The real issue is: where does that classification begin? At what point does someone officially earn the title "mentally ill," and how is that diagnosis—and its severity—actually verified? 🤣

The story isn't foolish—the animals are merely symbolic here.
I think that part is pretty obvious.

The Frog and the Scorpion in Psychology ·
The real question is this: can people actually change their fundamental nature?
Why is a scorpion always going to be a scorpion, and why is a frog always just a frog?
Insults over "Chemtrails" threads are going unpunished in Feedback & Suggestions ·
..it’s increasingly looking to me like some people have a serious ego problem. ☕

You can't expect everyone to be an expert on basic physics or chemistry.
There is no need to act superior—patrolling the NRZ or alternativa subforums just to lecture others—and pretending you have all the answers.

In the real world, we all exist as individuals, and I honestly don't get why someone who barely scraped by in high school science would try to explain fundamental laws of nature to anyone else!?

..everyone is entitled to their own opinion, especially on the alternativa boards, where the whole concept is designed to allow for unconventional or even wild ideas—ideas that might seem completely logical and natural to the person holding them.

..when someone from the alternative section tries to explain a topic through an alternative lens on the natural science board, believe me, they get shut down fast. They get banned, and the moderators there are incredibly intolerant toward anything they deem "unscientific"—even though a handful of them are busy being bigots while the rest are just high schoolers or students at places like MIT or Caltech.

...the very name "natural science" is misleading, because it makes these kids feel like actual scientists just because they're posting there. 🤣

...I view any web forum as a form of entertainment; you might find some smart advice or insightful posts, but ultimately, it’s up to each individual to decide what they actually need.

A well-known regular, a "temporarily suspended" moderator from the PZ board, was actually banned from the fringe science section because he took it upon himself to play messiah—trying to "enlighten" users he viewed as rude, ignorant, or crazy.
He was relentlessly insulting people, and for a long time, they let him get away with it.
On the alternativa boards, trying to explain phenomena using "scientific methods" is a lost cause—you have people who don't believe we ever went to the moon, people who believe in hexes, people who think energy healers can cure cancer, or that chamomile cures depression.
You can't fight those beliefs with scientific evidence; most scientific knowledge isn't set in stone forever, nor are these specific methods scientifically verified—besides, this isn't a forum dedicated strictly to SCIENTIFIC facts.

The alternative subforum should stay exactly as it is. From what I see, the moderators are quite tolerant, which I respect—pulling the trigger on every little thing is just counterproductive.

I remember the excellent moderator @danaye, who maybe issued one red card and ten yellows in an entire year while overseeing that section.

He deleted plenty of posts, but that's just part of the heavy lifting involved.

Best regards,
Insults over "Chemtrails" threads are going unpunished in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I used to spend a lot of time posting on this sub-forum back when I had my old handle—one I don't use anymore. It was always an interesting space for me because you had actual science and hard data clashing head-on with alternative theories (just look back at the observations geze used to drop in various threads)
.
And let's not forget the fascinating work of delije, with those "monads" of his—all those graphic breakdowns trying to map out the connection between the supernatural, the natural world, and where science meets its fringe limits.

Back then, the crowd interested in the fringe stuff included plenty of highly educated people, like mandragore and others. But nowadays? It’s nearly impossible to explain the supposed existence of Chemtrails to someone studying at MIT or any other top-tier engineering school.

It isn't right to insult someone just because they lack basic physics knowledge—though, I get why people snap sometimes. It’s exhausting when you spend ten pages explaining that 2+2=4, only to have someone insistively argue that 2+2 is actually 22.

All in all, it’s a tough sub-forum for any moderator to manage.
Why hasn't TurbulentFluid been banned for hate speech yet?? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
...personally, I don't see hate speech here—just a free, artistic way of expressing oneself where certain blunt terms are used simply to "amplify"

..for instance, if we’re discussing economics and someone replies... oh, poor things, you Americans are such an ignorant people, so your economy is blah blah blah....

I don't think anyone in a text like this intends to spread actual HATRED against another nation; they're just speaking candidly, like a casual conversation "on the street." That kind of talk happens every day—but apparently, we have a bunch of sensitive prima donnas here in their tattered ballet slippers and ripped leggings.

That post by hollowtrucker77 from the other forum is hilarious to me. I'm 100% certain that was the intention, though I'll admit Saša was just as good at peddling demagoguery back when he was the head Admin.

...what I'm trying to say is that we all have blood under our skin. We shouldn't have virtual force forced upon us—mindlessly throwing around bans as if Admin Sm or the moderators were gods on Olympus.
Obsessions and curses: What does psychology say? in Psychology ·
Jamie Chase6 said:There were several articles out there, and I've read interviews with prominent theologians discussing specific cases from their years of practice.
My point was that Vatican City has incredibly strict criteria when deciding if someone is actually possessed; if someone is just mumbling gibberish and showing symptoms of schizophrenia, then obviously, it's not a case for an exorcist.

The symptoms I listed are what point toward possession.

I'm not buying it until I see proof, just like I don't believe alien spacecraft have visited us until I see even one decent, HD-ready recording.🤣
It doesn't even need to be full HD.😉
Sure, it’s possible—but seriously, in an age where every average smartphone can capture solid video clips, why isn't there a SINGLE recording of an exorcism on the entire planet!?
Isn't it strange that priests don't reach out to networks like CNN, for instance? They'd be thrilled to have such a segment, and the Church would gain new believers while strengthening the faith of the old ones through that kind of evidence.

People, please—use a little reason and logic when posting things like this.

...It's all just snippets from newspapers or various magazines obsessed with the "supernatural," plus interviews with elderly priests—it all remains very murky.

ondine said:I mentioned that Vatican City maintains extremely strict criteria when deciding if someone is possessed; if someone is just mumbling incoherently or showing symptoms of schizophrenia, that's obviously not a case for an exorcism.

How do those Vatican "experts" actually distinguish between a supposed possession and a genuine mental illness!?
I know many priests have studied theology and theoretical psychology, but clinical psychology and psychiatry are entirely different beasts—fields they aren't allowed to touch because they don't know the recipe, let alone how to bake the cake.
Jamie Chase6 said:Look, based on what I know from movies and books, there are certain symptoms that suggest a case belongs to an exorcist rather than a psychiatrist.

1. A person might suddenly develop a "gift," like clairvoyance, that they never had before.;
2. They start speaking in languages they’ve never studied—like Latin or ancient Aramaic.;
3. They speak in a completely different voice, or they levitate (and not in a graceful way 😍)—anyone who's seen "The Exorcist" knows that terrifying scene where the girl just flies right out of the bed.
4. Walking on walls in a way that is definitely not humanly possible.

So, in those specific scenarios, it’s pretty hard to argue that you're just dealing with a psychiatric issue.

..what kind of "literature" are you reading where people are actually "walking on walls"?
..nobody can speak a language they don't know (in that psychotic state, people just start mumbling nonsense, but suddenly everyone is an expert in Ancient Hebrew, Old Latin, or Aramaic)😂

The "witnesses" are all supposedly linguists or something 🤣

..and who exactly is "levitating" and where!!!?? 🙂

Can anyone provide a link?
IP Address Issues in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Christian Morris80 said:Could you please elaborate on this?

When you're running in router mode, you're basically locked into a specific range—say, 89.172.180.193. Everything revolves around that 89.172 prefix; the last two octets are what shift around. One day you might be sitting at 89.172.201.4, and the next it’s 89.172.245.34—but the foundation stays the same. AT&T. 89.172 xx.x , ExxonMobil—89.164 If you’re living in an area like Indianapolis—which is where I am—and you happen to receive $83,245 once a month, for example...

That’s exactly how the mods spot you—your entire digital footprint is centered around Indianapolis and the surrounding area, and your recent activity is limited to just a handful of digits.

In bridge mode, you get this massive range of IP addresses—stuff like 233.345xx.xx, 135.38xx, 27.225, and so on. Honestly, what do I know? But you end up pulling IPs from just about everywhere in America—making it nearly impossible to pin you down as a clone (unless someone catches those specific traits mentioned earlier).

I used to run everything on bridge mode back when I was working with Cisco—that’s why that setup sticks in my mind. To me, that’s what a true "dynamic address" actually looks like. These modern router modes? They feel more like "semi-dynamic" at best. 🤣

...so now I've given you that "expert" take—is that what you were looking for? 🤣 He explained it—but at its core, it's pretty much the same thing.

The only real downside to using bridge mode is that you aren't constantly connected—you actually have to log in with a username and password every single time you want to get back online.

Jacob Chase42 said:Could it be related to the range of IP addresses assigned by the ISP?

If you’re really that set on using a second handle—well, nobody is going to stop you. It makes sense if, say, you need to ask something on the health board but don't want your usual circle of friends here to see it.
Clones are tolerated for legitimate purposes—not for trolling via a secondary account on a topic where you’ve already been banned.

...and you could also switch your modem over to bridge mode—that way, your ISP will cycle through a much wider variety of IP addresses.
...and you can also make use of it. Ultra Surf. A little program that makes it hard to track you down somewhere in the Bahamas.
No, most of these clones don't realize that they’re actually easiest to spot by their "handwriting"—their specific way of writing.
We all have our own distinct style—our specific way of writing and how we handle "opponents"—which makes a clone fairly easy to spot, no matter how much they try to hide.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "Lp"—could you clarify?
vividsailor7 said:Your BMI is elevated at 30.5—on top of that, you have hyperlipidemia, with significantly high triglyceride levels.
How old are you all?
We really ought to focus more on our diet and getting a proper nutrition plan in place.
2. E, Hgb and Hct are within the high end of the normal range.
3. Have you guys done any other tests—maybe transaminases or GUK?
4. You really need to get your blood pressure checked.
Why would you suspect gastrointestinal bleeding—what kind of symptoms are you actually dealing with?

ALT, AST, GGT, and ALP are all within range—though they're sitting at the higher end—so it looks like my liver enzymes are having a bit too much fun lately (likely due to lipids). 😁

My blood pressure stays consistently around 130–140 systolic over 80/90 diastolic.
My mother struggles with high blood pressure, so I find myself checking it at her place quite often.

I mentioned that I run occasionally and hit the weights—I'm 40 now, and honestly, I think my fitness is decent considering my weight. Though, I’d love to drop about 45 pounds; the problem is that those diet attempts always seem to break me—my body just starts "craving" everything. Otherwise, I can barely even walk home from work—well, that’s if I’m not limping.

I don't have any reason to suspect bleeding—but my primary care physician did try to rule out potential blood loss due to possible complications, such as tumors or similar issues, just to be safe (similar to what your colleague mentioned).

Throw my post in the trash. 🙂

Nicholas Myers said:Did someone actually recommend testing for occult bleeding to you—or was that just your own call to head to a private lab? I ask because you mentioned suspecting some bleeding and that you already went ahead and picked up the collection vials.

Look, I already said—I’m not letting another doctor talk down to me like that. Not after how I was treated before. ☕ I already mentioned how crazy this is—my daughter weighs only 110 lbs, yet her erythrocyte count is nearly double mine, and her iron is at 20 while mine sits at 13 (sometimes even dropping to 8). This is despite the fact that she eats "dietary" meals compared to me her entire life.

So, based on any standard medical logic—a "healthy" individual who increases their intake of meat, vegetables, and fruit should see an improved profile regarding hemoglobin, iron, and erythrocytes.

Quote : Nicholas Myers said:When you feel this weak, do you notice any other symptoms—like sweating, hunger, or shaky hands?

I don't get the sweating, I'm not hungry, and my hands aren't shaking—nothing hurts, really—but I do feel this sort of generalized dystonia throughout my whole body.
Maria Fisher46 said:What are the MCV values? Have you checked your ferritin levels?

It’s likely normocytic anemia due to iron deficiency—if that's the case, hunting down the cause (most often GI bleeding) is the right move.

Your cholesterol and triglyceride numbers are slightly elevated; you should probably chat with your primary care physician about adjusting your diet or increasing physical activity.

Cholesterol isn't critical—that's an easy fix—but I can't manage it easily 😉 when I have to eat "well" just to combat constant fatigue.

MCV 86.8
MCH 29.6
MCHC 341
Platelets 245

I mentioned above that the other results were fine.

EDIT

Ferritin hasn't been tested yet.
Low values:

erythrocytes 4.28
4.34-5.72

hemoglobin 127
138-175

hematocrit 0.372
0.415-0530

cholesterol 6.3
triglycerides 4.8

iron 13 (mentioning this because it feels quite low, even if it sits within the ref range)

Everything else looks fine—I had a full CBC done.

I get hit with this wave of weakness at work every single day around 3 PM—even eating something doesn't seem to help.
I've actually gained quite a bit of weight due to all this fatigue; I'm sitting at about 242 lbs at 6'3".

I feel weak and my facial skin looks somewhat pale—appetite is good, I don't smoke, though I occasionally have a drink just to "kill" the fatigue.

I picked up three stool sample kits today since there’s some suspicion regarding GI bleeding—if that turns out to be a dead end, there are still a million other tests to run to figure out what kind of anemia we're dealing with. I'm asking here if anyone has dealt with similar results and managed to speed up the diagnostic process—anything I can suggest to my primary care physician so we can move forward with the "investigation" more efficiently?🙂
restlessfox29 said:Hey everyone, I was wondering how psychologists typically view people who feel like they're being obsessed over or targeted in some way? Is that usually linked to a specific disorder, or could it just be someone having an overactive imagination? Aside from that, there aren't really any other symptoms present—unless you'd consider a total lack of interest in things to be a symptom too🤷 If there are any professionals in the group, I’d love to hear your thoughts😳

Honestly, you don't need a specialist to tell you this: if this "obsession" is messing with your ability to live your daily life, then go see a psychiatrist or an exorcist—but if it isn't bothering you, then fine, just live with your demons. 🙂 🤣
Maria Barnes said:Hey 🙂

Let's be real: ads are a necessary evil, but they're also a godsend because they keep this Reddit alive. This gorgeous Nokia will be up for two weeks. 🙂

Since we actually give a damn about your opinion and don't want to drown this place in spam, we’re pulling the standard 160-pixel right sidebar while this wallpaper ad is running. Expect that change sometime after 8 PM tonight.

Right now, the site width is sitting at 1100 pixels. Honestly? It’s probably too wide. Long lines make reading a pain, though that’s a debate for another day. Some sites stay ad-free yet still stick to a fixed width—take the Webmaster's forum Webmaster, for example. They actually pay attention to those details and keep things at 950 pixels.

Our goal is simple: fund this site using ads that aren't aggressive and, ideally, actually useful. I don't think this one is over the top; it’s static and doesn't mess with the actual content area.

Bottom line: we're listening to you. We're looking for the least painful way to host the ads that, as I said, we absolutely need.

I completely agree with the owner's expertise here.
Look, folks—it's a global crisis, money is tight, kids need to eat—and I'm not sure who could possibly satisfy all you egocentrics.

The moderator opens the thread in agreement with the owner, and you naive types just fall for the act.

The whole point of this thread is to "pacify" the community through a controlled disavowal, preventing a massive wave of anger or people jumping ship from the site.

Kudos to them.
