Rachel Sanders2 said:Look, if you actually want to understand these verses, you have to look at the context in which they were originally revealed.

The problem is, the whole Bible is just one big "context." It's a product of its era and the people putting it together. There isn't anything existing outside of that bubble.
There's no such thing as divine verses coming straight from God's mouth. No eternal truths or absolute beauty—it's all just subjective to whoever happens to be reading.

That's why the reader's perspective is really the only thing that matters. 👍

Keith Morgan10 said:Don't the Bible and the Quran incite violence? 😁 Which versions have you actually been reading?

In the Old Testament, there are countless instances where killing and destruction are explicitly called for.
And in the Quran, it says something like this:

"Once the sacred months have passed, slay the polytheists wherever you find them,
capture them, besiege them, and take them at every pass!
But if they repent
and perform their prayers and give zakat, leave them alone, for Allah truly
is forgiving and merciful
"

The main difference I see between the Old Testament and the Quran is that in the Old Testament, the people ordered to kill were usually doing something truly heinous and revolting—you can read those details between the lines—whereas in the Quran, the target is anyone who is a polytheist or an infidel.

To me, the problem isn't really the Quran or the Bible itself, but rather how people interpret them. Someone comes along, finds a specific passage that fits their agenda, and just starts hammering away with it. Looking back at history, you see Christians persecuting other Christians, or radical Muslims going after anyone who doesn't follow their exact way of life.

There are probably plenty of highly educated, scholarly people who understand these things much better than the average person, but they feel they can't speak out publicly because of the dogmatic grip of the institutions they belong to. It’s almost a universal trait among scientists regarding the flat earth theory—there's this heavy silence. Those who do speak up tend to be either very condescending or they just loudly mock anyone else. Well, it's written in the Bible that the whole world is under the influence of evil, so I don't see why certain institutions, including religious ones, should be any different.
On a side note, there’s a scientist/professor from Mexico living in Canada who speaks openly about this (Tomislav Terzin), though even with him, you can tell he’s being incredibly careful about his wording and how he presents himself (he always adds disclaimers). He's caught between his academic institution and his religious ties.

There was actually a pretty serious debate in Mexico recently—I can't recall the name of the channel—where a few highly educated professors went head-to-head with flat earthers; some of them even performed experiments. I wouldn't say one side clearly won, but it was definitely interesting to watch. I'll post the link or the video title once I track it down.

Here it is, there are several episodes...

It’s quite obvious that one group is attacking with general logic (without really diving into the depths of science), while the other is hitting hard with modern scientific theories and complex calculations, yet they seem unable or unwilling to look at the broader logical picture. Regardless, it’s worth a look.

👍

Most believers don't actually read their own Holy Scriptures. They just blindly follow whatever their preachers, priests, or pastors feed them.

In the Old Testament, there are countless times people are killed or destroyed, and it's justified for that.

Why use the passive voice? 🤔

God orders the slaughter of infants and pregnant women, plus He kills firstborns Himself, drowns entire populations, kids, and animals with floods, and so on. Then you have Jesus yelling about how not a single law from God's law from the Old Testament should ever be changed or repealed! He even repeats that God (both His Father and Himself) commanded that children who curse their parents be stoned. He doesn't say the law of stoning was abolished as some sadistic monstrosity. He just warns the girl not to sin again... (in a fictionalized addition).

And the Quran says this:
"When the sacred months have passed, kill the polytheists wherever you find them, capture them, besiege them, and take up positions at every pass! But if they repent, establish prayer, and give zakat, then let them go, for Allah is truly forgiving and merciful"

Yeah. Same trash, just 600 years newer.

The difference between the Old Testament and the Quran is that in the OT those being killed did something absolutely vile and disgusting.

😲
Babies and newborns? Pregnant women who got pregnant out of wedlock, back when marriage was basically a male-dominated institution of slavery?

(the details are sort of implied)

Are you kidding me? 😂
Apologetics fans?

, whereas in the Quran, it's if you're a polytheist or an infidel.

Or if you "attribute a Son to God," what's the absolute worst blasphemy Allah loses his mind over?

In my view, the problem isn't the Quran or the Bible, it's the interpretations.

It’s actually the other way around. 🙂

Theapologists and apologists have spent forever trying to sugarcoat messy texts like the Quran-Bible with their own spin. They're basically just trying to repackage everything into some kind of modern ethical code so they don't get wiped out by progress.

A person is born and for some reason latches onto one specific part and starts attacking it. Looking back at history, you had Christians persecuting and killing other Christians, and radical Muslims killing anyone who didn't follow their exact path.

"Some"? It was more the rule than the exception. The Inquisition would still be burning people alive today if people hadn't eventually decided to clip their claws.

scientists around the flat earth are mocked,

Flat Earth? Give me a break. Who am I even talking to... 🙂

those who do say anything usually do it condescendingly, or they're just loud mockers.

Idiots deserve to be mocked. And conspiracy theorists are just shameless lowlifes with zero honor.

Clearly in New Zealand it says the whole world is under evil,

Sure, you can read anything on a billboard.
As far as I know, New Zealand is still grouped with the Old Testament in the Bible.
Completely inseparable.

Among other things, a Mexican scientist/professor in Canada speaks publicly about it (Tomislav Terzin),

That creationist liar, that religious fanatic? 😵

There was one serious debate in Mexico

🤣 There is no such thing as a serious debate about a flat earth. It's just a circus filled with Bible worshippers.

fadedbear43 said:I disagree with the idea that the Quran and the Bible incite violence. Both are spiritually pure texts centered on peace and love. Having read both multiple times, I believe Judaism follows a similar path. The issue lies with extremist sects like ISIS or the Watchtower Society, which have only gained relevance by distorting the very faiths they claim to represent.

Regarding the flat earth concept, I am open to an evidence-based debate between experts in the field, such as Korado Korlević and Elvis Presley. Naturally, everyone will likely stick to their own convictions by the end of the discussion, but it would be fascinating to watch. 😁 Podcast Incubator is a fantastic production.

I don't engage in debates, so please refrain from quoting me.

😵

That’s exactly why I dropped this example on you. I knew you'd just start chanting that "la la la" mantra about the Bible being nothing but love and God's Word:

The Bible is constantly calling for the total wipeout of anyone who doesn't worship the specific version of God scribbled down on those pages. The same goes for the Quran and its jihad.

KILL your wife, your best friend, your son, your daughter, your mother, or your father—if they try to push you toward worshipping any god that isn't Yahweh. Stone them until they're gone:

Deuteronomy 13:7-11

"If your brother,
your mother's son,
or your own son,
your daughter,
your wife, or
your close friend,
secretly entices you by saying,
'Let us go off and worship other gods,'
gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, gods of the peoples around you, whether they are near or far, from one end of the land to the other—do not yield to them or listen to them. Show them no pity, do not spare them, and do not protect them;
kill them!
You must be the first to strike them down, and then everyone else.
Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away from Yahweh"

Deuteronomy 13:7-11

And I'm not getting into debates, so please don't quote me.

Go to Mass then, not an online forum. ☕

Keith Morgan10 said:I'm familiar with all that. But honestly, it doesn't make sense to me to claim I know something or believe in something when I don't actually have a grasp on it. I don't mind reading or doing research, though. I really don't. Because God created every living thing, and there's truth to be found in everything.
We aren't going to find out what the actual shape of the earth is until an average person—someone totally disconnected from the establishment or the people in power—actually gets out into space, or maybe when we pass away. Until then, I guess we just have to rely on what we believe.

There's this one channel on YouTube called Vibes of Cosmos, and the guy has posted some pretty interesting videos regarding the shape and appearance of the earth. Whether he's right or not, I don't know, but it definitely captures the imagination of anyone who's curious.

😵

So you'd just hop in a rocket to see for yourself? I knew one flat-earther who tried something like that, but it didn't end well. Pretty sure he died. Guess he got his answer...

There's this one YouTube channel
I don't know if they're right, but it definitely scratches that itch for anyone looking for answers.

fadedbear43 said:Elvis selectively interprets the Bible to suit his own narrative. This is exactly what millions of other people do when they misinterpret the Bible, Quran, or Talmud, often leading to global conflicts. 😵 What he’s doing is nothing new; it’s a pattern we've seen countless times. He has every right to his perspective, whether people choose to accept it or not. In my view, the concept of a flat earth isn't inherently hate speech.

Regarding COVID, he obviously won't take responsibility. If anyone should be held accountable, it would be the politicians in Congress who built their entire platforms on opposing vaccines and other virus protections. 😵 A figure like Nina Raspudić has a media reach that far outweighs Elvis's.

Nah. He's just... He follows whatever is written in there like it's gospel.I mean, what were those writers even thinking? And then you get apologists like you who just "selectively interpret" everything so the Bible doesn't look like some outdated nonsense compared to how much we actually know today.

Just like millions of others who butcher the Bible, Quran, or Talmud to justify starting wars. 😵

The Bible is constantly calling for the extermination of anyone who doesn't worship the specific version of God scribbled down on those pages. Honestly, it’s the exact same story with the Quran and its jihad.
I haven't touched the Talmud. It’s just a massive pile of random writings anyway.

If you think I'm an atheist and that's why you don't trust me:

Kill your wife, your best friend, your kids, even your own parents—if they try to push you toward worshipping any god other than Yahweh. Stone them until they're gone.

If your own brother turned on you...
Son of a bitch.
Or even your own son.
Your daughter,
A woman in your arms, or what?
A friend who’s basically your whole life.
Seducing them on the sly:
"Let's just go ahead and start worshiping other gods then,"
Don't you dare listen to those gods of foreign nations surrounding you, whether they're right next door or halfway across the country. Don't give them a second look, and don't let your eyes show even a shred of pity. Don't hold back; just leave them be.
Just kill him already!
First, you better hope you can even find the strength to lift your hand against him. Just kill him already. And then, the weight of the whole nation falls on one hand.
Stone him until he's gone. He was clearly just trying to pull you away from Yahweh."
Deuteronomy 13:7-11

We've seen this exact same act a million times before.

Religious fanatics are actually in the minority. Most of the billions out there just tweak God's word to make it feel modern so it doesn't seem totally ignorant or violent. Take Paradise, for instance—they claim the Quran already contains every scientific discovery we've ever made. 🤦

He’s got every right to feel that way. People can either take it or leave it. If you ask me, the whole flat earth thing isn't really hate speech in and of itself..

Not even if I tried. 🙄

All that hate speech talk is just more of his usual nonsense coming out of his mouth. ☕

When it comes to COVID, they obviously aren't going to take the blame. If anyone should be held accountable, it's those politicians in D.C. who built their whole careers on being anti-vax and fighting every safety measure in sight. 😵 Someone like Nina Raspudić has a massive media platform compared to Elvis.

And honestly, the idiots who put them in power are even more to blame. ☕

fadedbear43 said:To be fair, Elvis Presley tends to wander quite broadly. There are certain things where I find myself agreeing with him—specifically his views on alcohol, eating pork, prostitution, pornography, marriage, profanity, drugs, and family.

However, those are matters of worldview; you can either agree or disagree. On the other hand, the flat earth theory is simply absurd. Furthermore, the approach toward COVID-19 was criminal. Some of his advice to people may have actually cost them their lives, which is something he should never have done.

I am looking forward to the next episodes of the Podcast Incubator. Give my best to Ralet, Simke, Los, and the rest of the crew if they happen to see this. They should just keep up the fantastic work. 👍👍

He’s sticking to that out of pure religious fanaticism—because it’s written right there in the Bible, and that’s what God whispered to the author.

Also, his take on COVID-19 was straight-up criminal. Some of the advice he gave people might have actually cost them their lives. He really didn't need to go there.

I should probably answer that one. I reported him on YouTube, and before long, that creep got kicked off the platform. 🙂

This is basically how the Bible writers imagined the entire universe looked.

Flat-Earther churchgoers.

A lot of the early Church Fathers actually believed in a flat Earth—guys like Theophilus of Antioch, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Methodius, Theodore of Mopsuestia, and even John Chrysostom (who thought the world was shaped like a cube, not a sphere). You’ve also got Cyril of Jerusalem, Ephraim of Tyre, Athanasius of Alexandria, Bishop Diodore of Tarsus, Epiphanius of Salamis, Hilary of Poitiers, and Severianus of Gabala. Most people back then were more preoccupied with how many feathers an angel had on its wings.

By accepting that the Earth rotates, the Church ran into massive issues. Once again, God's word led them down the wrong path.

Elvis Presley: 😵

But if you’re convinced NASA is lying, then the whole concept of space is just a scam. The biblical land is FLAT, Almighty God. It's all real, and Jesus Christ is our beloved Lord and Savior—check out this video and help spread the truth!

The Bible uses the Hebrew word CHUWG to mean a circle, not a sphere. It’s definitely a circle. If you look at Strong's Concordance (entries 2328 and 2329), Holladay’s Concise Hebrew, the Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament (p. 97), Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew, or the English Lexicon (p. 295), they all point to the verb form meaning "to draw a circle." As a noun, it translates to either "circle" or "arch"—which, obviously, is just a semi-circular arc.
_______________
duwr - pronounced like "dure."
chuwg - basically sounds like "khug" (k-hug).

Other instances of the word *chuwg* (which also looks a lot like the American term *khug*, meaning circle) include:

Job 26:10
He marked a circle on the water—that Hebrew *chuwg*—right where the light fades out and the darkness takes over.

He formed the Earth by His own power, established the world through His wisdom, and stretched out the heavens with His mind. When He speaks, the waters above roar, clouds rise from the ends of the earth, and He commands the rain, lightning, and wind from His hidden depths.

Jeremiah 10:12
Yahweh sits on His throne forever, waiting to take His seat and pass judgment: He alone holds the right to judge this whole damn Earth.
Your thunder roars through the storm, lightning lights up the whole damn world, and the very Earth shakes beneath our feet.
The heavens belong to You, and the Earth is Yours; You shaped the world and everything on it—from the North to the South.
They’re trying to shove him out of the light and back into the dark, basically looking to kick him off the face of the Earth.
Clouds hide his face, and he walks the edge of the celestial circle.
"The midday sun blazes upon the circle of the Earth, and who could endure its heat?"
He sits enthroned above the circle of the Earth, while the people below look like mere locusts.
Proverbs 8:27
...when He was creating the heavens, I was there, watching Him trace a circle (Hebrew *chuwg*) across the face of the abyss.
Standard American translations using "circle" or "circumference" for *chuwg* actually make sense here; the context implies drawing something on a surface—basically a 2D representation.
Plus, Hebrew has another word specifically for a sphere (a surface enclosing a ball): *duwr*. If the author of Isaiah 40 had meant a globe, he almost certainly would have used *duwr* instead of *chuwg*. In fact, Isaiah uses that specific term earlier to describe a ball:

Isaiah 22:17-18
"Look, Yahweh will throw you far away with a single blow; He will seize you firmly and roll you up like a ball (Hebrew *duwr*) and hurl you across the wide Earth!"

So, it’s no surprise that all the mainstream Bibles we use—the NRSV, RSV, NASB, ASV, KJV, NKJV, and even the fundamentalist NIV—translate *chuwg* in Isaiah 40:22 as a circle or disk.

===========================================
"Saint Augustine was aware of the Greek theory regarding a spherical Earth; however, following the conclusions of his predecessor and fellow North African, Lactantius, he was firmly convinced that the Earth was flat, one of the two greatest bodies in creation, resting at the bottom of the universe. Augustine clearly found this model more useful for biblical exegesis than a spherical planet floating in an infinite void."

Chrysostom, one of the four great Fathers of the Eastern Church and Archbishop of Constantinople, explicitly backed the scriptural idea that the Earth miraculously floats on water beneath the celestial sphere. Athanasius of Alexandria expressed a similar view in his work "Against the Pagans."

In the *Christian Topography* (547 AD) written by the Alexandrian monk Cosmas Indicopleustes (540 AD),
the author repeatedly argues that the universe consists of only two realms: the Earth below the sky and the heavens above it. Relying heavily on biblical arguments, he describes the Earth as a rectangle, 400 days long by 200 days wide, surrounded by four oceans and enclosed by four massive walls supporting the celestial vault. To him, the spherical Earth theory was nothing more than "pagan" nonsense.

Severianus, the Bishop of Gabala (408 AD), wrote that the Earth is flat and that the sun doesn't pass underneath it at night, but rather "travels through the northern regions as if hidden by a wall." Meanwhile, Basil of Caesarea (329-379) just rambled that the whole thing was "theologically irrelevant."

In the mid-8th century, Virgil of Salzburg was teaching certain geographic or cosmographic ideas that Saint Boniface found so distasteful he complained to Pope Zachary about them. The only surviving record of this drama is found in Zachary's response from 748 AD, where he wrote:

"Regarding the perverse and sinful doctrine uttered by him (Virgil) against God and his own soul: if it is clearly determined that he confesses a belief in another world and other people living beneath the Earth or within the Sun and Moon there, you must hold a council, strip him of his priestly office, and cast him out of the Church!"

Keith Morgan10 said:Elvis Presley is an interesting guy, but one thing just doesn't sit right with me. He’s dead set on the idea that the Earth is flat, and hey, that's his choice. He quotes the Bible quite a bit, too—he seems to know his way around the text. But I have to wonder... why does he never mention what God says about pride?
It seems like both the globe believers and the flat-earthers share this same trait: they’re absolutely convinced they’re right and everyone else is just lost.
Yet, neither side really brings anything to the table that serves as undeniable, visual proof of the shape.
Wouldn't it be more humble, maybe even more divine, to just say, "I don't think it's a sphere," instead of stubbornly insisting it's flat without any actual evidence?
The "proof" these folks present is certainly interesting, but honestly, it raises more questions than it actually answers.
Now, you won't find a verse in the Bible explicitly stating whether the Earth is flat or round. In the version I read, it mentions a circle of the earth, implying there are boundaries that keep the waters from spilling over. But even then, should I really go out there publicly attacking people over something I haven't personally witnessed with my own eyes?

That word "circle" is tricky. It could mean a few things—like a sphere, or perhaps just a horizontal plane.
We are taught that everything in this world exists in a state of perfect balance, which seems to be the key to everything. But why don't those flat-earthers consider the possibility that centripetal and centrifugal forces are also held in that same perfect balance? Or any of the other claims made by modern scientists.

And I wonder, is Elvis even familiar with Gnostic texts, like the stories involving Yaldabaoth? If the Earth really is tilted at 66.6 degrees relative to the sun, what kind of message would that be trying to send us?

Regarding religion, it feels to me like Elvis wants to be Catholic because of the tradition, but he's right to push back against their teachings when they seem selective or lack a solid foundation in the Bible. I think it's the same story with a lot of other religions, too.

Just a cocky amateur.

Neither side actually has any real, obvious proof regarding the shape.

Looks like you skipped elementary school.

Wouldn't it be more honorable and Godly to say it's not a circle and something feels off, rather than stubbornly insisting it's flat without any evidence?

There is no "none." It’s in the Bible, so it’s truth—no further proof required.

Nowhere in the Bible does it explicitly state whether the Earth is flat or round.

A circle, not a sphere. It was so obvious to the writers back then they didn't feel the need to emphasize it.

The version I read says there is a terrestrial circle, and within that circle, there are coasts meant to keep the water from spilling out.

Exactly. It doesn't say it's a sphere anywhere. God doesn't know. Jesus has no clue. He says Satan set him on a high building where all the kingdoms could be seen. That only works on a flat Earth. When He appears in the clouds, everyone will see Him. Even those on the other side?

The term "circle" is interesting because it can mean different things—like a sphere or just a horizontal plane.

Go back to school. Learn the difference between a circle and a sphere.

It's clear to us that everything in the world is in perfect balance,

🤔

But why don't you Flat Earthers consider the possibility that centripetal and centrifugal forces are also in that same perfect balance? Or any of the other claims made by modern scientists.

Why on earth would you expect logic from those idiots?
Does Elvis Presley even know anything about Gnostic texts or things like Yaldabaoth? If the Earth is actually tilted at 66.6 degrees on its axis, what is that supposed to be telling us?

Maybe 23.

Regarding religion, it seems like Elvis Presley wants to be Catholic just for the tradition, but he’s right to push back against their doctrine—which is either totally selective or just lacks any basis in the Bible. Same goes for other religions, really.

The guy is some kind of creationist Protestant who swallowed every crazy conspiracy theory out there. Plus, his mouth is constantly running with hate speech. It's the absolute worst kind of religious trash.

JERUSALEM, April 5 (Reuters) - Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid slammed Russian war crimes in Ukraine on Tuesday, ramping up Israel's criticism of Russia since the fighting in Ukraine kicked off.

"The images and accounts coming out of Ukraine are horrific. Russian forces have committed war crimes against helpless civilians. I strongly condemn these war crimes", he said in a statement.

Israel had previously been cautious about criticizing Russia, citing Bennett's attempts to mediate peace.

The reason was that Russian militants control Syrian airspace, yet they’ve allowed Israeli aircraft to take out Iranian militant jerks—Hezbollah.

"We are shocked by the terrible sights in Bucha—the gruesome scenes—and we condemn them. The suffering of Ukrainian citizens is immense, and we are doing everything we can to help," Bennett said during a televised press conference.

We are all paying the price for her foolish policy of dependency on Russia, while Ukrainians are paying for our security with their blood.
