Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
I'm not entirely sure I follow what you're asking here. But honestly, the last few versions—including the one we're running now—are definitely compatible.
Can't find Intel VT-x in my BIOS in IT Support ·
Did you bother checking the BIOS under the "Advanced" tab?

How to connect my receiver to my smartphone in IT Support ·
MHL is basically just for mirroring your phone screen onto the TV; it doesn't work the other way around.
Even if it did, I don't see the point in trying to cram a massive TV picture onto a tiny little phone. Wouldn't you much rather just watch it on the big screen? 🤷
How to convert numbers to any base? in IT Support ·
You can take the direct route if the bases you're converting between are powers of one another—which is exactly what’s happening here. It makes things pretty straightforward; just group the binary digits into pairs and treat each pair as a single digit in base 4.
That gives you a result of:
1230.322
(Feel free to call me out if I messed up, it's been a minute since I've touched this kind of math)
Issues with PDF / InDesign? in Software ·
Well, that clears things up. It’s obvious the export isn't just going to snap its fingers and be done; it clearly takes a decent chunk of time to finish processing. You just have to sit tight and wait for the whole thing to wrap up before you even try opening that PDF. Maybe once it finally hits 100%, it'll actually give you a notification that it's ready...
Issues with PDF / InDesign? in Software ·
So, it sounds like the file hasn't actually finished generating yet. How can you tell when InDesign is totally done exporting? Does a little notification pop up or something? (I don't use InDesign myself, so I'm a bit out of the loop on how it works)
Issues with PDF / InDesign? in Software ·
Does the file size of that PDF actually change while you're getting that error message?

Is InDesign closed while you're trying to pull up the file with Acrobat?
How to get decent internet with a weak signal? in IT Support ·
First, you’ve gotta figure out if you're just dealing with a weak signal or if your area doesn't even have 3G coverage and is stuck on EDGE... check the coverage map on your carrier's website. If it's the latter, there isn't a single device on the market that's going to fix that for you.

I don't know from firsthand experience, but wasn't it always the case that the IRS only cared about actual receipts? Like, they didn't give a damn about stickers or anything else...
Best ways to boost WiFi range? in IT Support ·
@Tyler Johnson6

Is there any actual way we could get line-of-sight here? Maybe if we used an elevated spot, like a rooftop, plus a pole to mount an antenna on...
If you ask me, the only way this works is through direct line-of-sight and a directional antenna...
Best portable Wi-Fi hotspots? in Hardware ·
Well, it really depends on what kind of device you’re looking at. There are dozens of models floating around out there right now. You'll definitely find some high-end gems, but there's plenty of cheap junk too... just like anything else you buy these days.
Best video compressor? in Software ·
Looks like HEVC movies and shows are finally starting to pop up on the torrent sites... guess things are finally picking up steam. 😉
Best video compressor? in Software ·
Commercial hardware encoders and decoders are finally hitting the market, and honestly, they're actually performing pretty well.
Best video compressor? in Software ·
Andrew Peterson2 said:Honestly, things would look a lot better if we actually had a codec that outperformed x264 when it comes to compression efficiency.

There's a better one out there (h.265), but YouTube won't touch it.
Windows 8.1 drivers in IT Support ·
That resolution isn't going to work; that laptop actually runs at 1600 x 900.
Give that a shot instead.
Windows 8.1 drivers in IT Support ·
Give this one a shot (assuming you're running 32-bit Windows), or try this instead (if you've got 64-bit)...
Video playback issues on Windows 8.1 Pro in IT Support ·
What kind of processor are you running on that machine that keeps glitching out?
Google Drive issues in IT Support ·
Don't quote me on this, but if my memory serves me right—and it’s a bit foggy—I think I read somewhere that with Windows 8, Google Drive was implemented differently. Like, it was baked straight into the OS, so you couldn't just yank it out... I actually think you didn't even need to bother installing the client app on 8.
Google Drive storage issues in IT Support ·
Maybe it isn't even a notification about running out of space on your Dropbox, but rather an issue with the actual device itself...
