You earned this permanent ban—it was a direct consequence of your constant, heavy-handed insults. This wasn't some isolated incident either; you’ve brought this exact same attitude to several other subforums before (and you’ve already picked up partial sanctions for it elsewhere).
That said, after touching base with rustydrifter10, we’ve decided to give you one final shot—but let’s be clear, this is absolutely the last one. We aren't bothering with warning cards for verbal abuse anymore; the next time a moderator decides to flag your behavior, it's an immediate perm.
Just hang tight for a few days until a supermod or admin lifts the ban.
Everything that needs to be said has been said here, and honestly, it looks like this thread is just devolving into a bunch of vague, general whining.
Look, we have a specific subforum dedicated to COVID theories where you can explore the "softer" side of things—you know, the relatively harmless stuff involving the Bilderberg Group, lizard people, or those other shadowy secret societies—but we aren't hosting medical quackery there. And as for any of the other threads? There’s zero chance of that happening either. Not a prayer.
I’ll be opening up a new thread about masks in a couple of days—but just a heads-up, on any conspiracy theory threads, I’m going to be handing out sanctions and performing some disgusting post deletions if people start being abusive. Honestly, I can't wrap my head around how anyone manages to troll so aggressively on a topic like this 🤷
fadedtrucker said:So, Gerald Chavez7, did you seriously just delete all those arguments? I mean, what else are we supposed to expect on a forum when people are on totally different sides of an issue? You can't just slap a label like "bickering" on a debate and call it a day—real discussion is the whole damn point of this place, right?
Look, if someone drops thirty posts in a row—you and HHmishko included—just constantly jumping at each other, it kills the conversation. There are ten times more people reading than actually posting. Once you factor in the regulars, about 95% of the community has to scroll through three or four pages of your "duel."
Charles Davis84 said:Maybe the guy just replies when he finds the time, and then suddenly responds to several things at once, which I don't think counts as spam. He didn't break any general rule forum rules, and I think deleting those posts was unjustified. I guess hollowwalker24 enriches the discussion with those long, periodic posts and isn't ruining anything.
Even though I'm new here and my word doesn't mean much, I'm asking the admin to be more tolerant toward our colleague hollowwalker24 in the future.
It's not that I have an issue with him personally—it's just that if he repeats posts without actually engaging in the discussion... well, like I said, he's done this five or six times since March. It just doesn't make sense.
I’ve been cleaning up some incredibly stupid posts, endless bickering, and pure spam. Honestly, maybe I should have been more aggressive—it feels like I might have missed a few.
hollowwalker24 is just a spammer at this point. Dropping 50 links followed by four massive posts in a row without actually engaging with them—well, it kills any decent discussion. Since I’ve been moderating the Covid threads since day one, I’ve seen this exact pattern cycle through every 10–15 days. It's nothing new.
P.S. The supermods and Nica can always see the deleted content, so they aren't lost—and they certainly don't need to be re-added.
The admins have officially weighed in—and honestly, I’ve read enough of your posts over the years, especially back when you were flooding the finance boards, that I can see exactly where this is going. It’s pretty obvious.
I’m honestly not sure if I’d classify myself as a power user, a casual observer, or somewhere in the middle—but I do know my "secret" to consistently dropping two massive posts a day for thirteen years straight: it’s called using "new tabs." Believe it or not, I just multitask through everything... provided, of course, that the chat rooms aren't lagging out.
You’re basically a clone of rolandus, sitting on about 400 active points. If you want to retire that old handle, go for it—but it would be fair to actually announce that change so people don't keep expecting you in the same threads. You've been popping up in discussions where you already have hundreds of posts—specifically politics and economics—and frankly, you've racked up quite a few warnings there.
Just so everyone is in the loop—we currently have about 20 users sitting in the ban corner (this doesn't include anyone who asked to be removed or those who received permanent bans) — and about ten of those bans are set to expire within the next 48 hours. The actual pool of "gray area homeworkers" is a whole lot smaller than you might imagine 🙂
They 😁 aren't actually applying any scientific method to their analysis.
I have a feeling these kinds of topics—or subforums, really—could survive in this old-school forum format for quite a while longer. They don't revolve around the constant dopamine loop of chats, likes, or dislikes you see on Instagram... though, obviously, that doesn't stop people from getting into heated, borderline irrational debates over something like which propeller design works best for bulk carriers.
A few years back, Quorgyle actually pitched an idea right here on this subreddit about launching a dedicated science and tech sub-forum.
The feedback was pretty solid at the time, but—surprise, surprise—nothing ever came of it... Looking through a few different subreddits, I see some incredibly interesting topics popping up all the time that clearly hook people... If we could consolidate them, it might actually pull in a whole new crowd of users for deeper discussions. For instance, over on my main economics sub, a thread about shipbuilding just opened up—it’s mostly focused on the financial side, obviously, but there are some genuinely fascinating posts buried in there...
Unfortunately, Quorgyle hasn't logged in for six months now, so he can't really take the lead on developing the concept. But maybe we could gather some folks from various threads and build up enough momentum to make it happen.
The reality is that there’s a fair amount of self-censorship happening on the forum—for most people, it’s just a natural reaction to generally accepted social norms (basically etiquette, which overlaps quite a bit with our Reddit rules). That said, some people censor themselves out of pure fear of getting a warning, a ban, or having their posts nuked. Of course, I’d prefer that number to be as low as possible, but we’re dealing with thousands of members here; it’s perfectly expected that malicious posts will pop up. For example, we have this incredibly active debate going on regarding how tourism impacts the economy—and every few minutes, someone drops a generalization (like lazy Californians, cheap Midwesterners, impoverished folks from the rural South, and so on). Naturally, I’ve warned people about this dozens of times already, but at a certain point, it's pointless to argue—I just delete the post and issue a warning. If someone practices self-censorship and doesn't write those kinds of generalizations, then the system is actually working and the forum becomes a more pleasant place to hang out. Whether they did it to dodge a penalty or if it's just genuinely against their own sense of decorum or discourse... honestly, it doesn't really matter.
You’ve been hanging around this forum since 2014 and managed to rack up about 50 warnings—did you really not realize the points stack up?
It’s pretty straightforward—we have around 30 different subforums, so if you’re being toxic in the Mobile Tech section and then acting out in the Automotive section, those infractions add up.
Just try to stay on the right side of the rules once in a while, and you won't have to worry about penalties bleeding over from one subforum to another.
Honestly, this whole persecution complex says enough about your complaint 😁
What do you mean "we"? I’ve been lurking and posting in this thread since before you even made an account—I was already being lumped in with the doom-and-gloom crowd predicting falling real estate prices... But hey, I can't help it if I notice posts that completely lack logic or basic common sense.
The posts haven't vanished—everything is still right where it belongs, and you can clearly see how this whole discussion has played out over the last few weeks. For instance, you only picked up a single warning—and that was just for questioning the mods.
silentridge3 simply doesn't know how to make a point without getting all worked up and snapping at people—which is exactly why they racked up two or three warnings and ended up with a brief one-day ban.
I honestly think the folks over at the political science department—you know, where you probably picked all this up—have way too much on their plates with actual issues to bother sanctioning posts like this one. Just hit that little report triangle; I'm sure once it's flagged, the moderators will give it the scrutiny it deserves.
Not a single one of your posts has been deleted. In fact, if you actually look at them, they all clearly demonstrate this pattern of aggressive communication and constant labeling of other users—which is exactly what this appeal proves. You’ve been issued a 30-point penalty and one formal warning.
Honestly, there’s probably no point in bothering with such an arrogant appeal, but just so we're all clear—moderators have a dedicated "quote" button right next to "edit" specifically for their assigned subforums. Everywhere else, they're stuck with the standard "quote" option. Even the best moderators hit the wrong button once in a while...
