Issues with my USB 3.1 drive in IT Support ·

Imagine a massive 22-inch tablet... but without any touch support. That’s pretty much how my experience with Eight felt...
It honestly feels like users did 90% of the R&D for Microsoft themselves. Not a single OS version actually worked right out of the box; they only stabilized after a service pack, or even a second one. We struggle and complain, and then they grandiosely slap those fixes into a "service" update. God knows how many versions of Windows 10 have survived this cycle...
Sure, it works fine, but every time I see an update notification, I get a little twitch: what are they going to break this time? Aside from local network sharing, which is almost certainly doomed...

It always happens, every single time there's an update—even a cumulative one. Suddenly, password-protected sharing kicks in, and it's a total pain. You can find workarounds like saving passwords to profiles, but that's not realistic for us. If you've got an office with seven or eight people, someone is bound to forget their password, even if they've logged in with the exact same one thirty times a day.
Then the update hits, and everyone panics in the morning because suddenly nobody can access shared folders anymore.
Issues with my USB 3.1 drive in IT Support ·
Sometimes systems just refuse to recognize a USB drive on a 3.0 port while it works perfectly fine on 2.0, or vice versa. Who knows what kind of glitch happens after years of using Windows where it just decides a specific stick belongs to some other device entirely.
I've been dealing with this for years, and I still can't figure out why a USB stick or an external hard drive works in one port but fails in another, or why it starts throwing errors. It’s just one of those macOS mysteries.

The only theory I've come up with is that something was once plugged into that specific port, leaving a trace in the registry, and now any device with a similar ID just confuses the system.

But seriously, don't even bother trying to wrap your head around it. It's impossible.
Dell laptop in IT Support ·
The BIOS keeps resetting whenever there’s no power running to it. It’s possible your CMOS battery finally kicked the bucket, which would explain why everything reverts to default settings every single time you unplug. Batteries can be weird like that. Just keep it plugged in and let it go into sleep mode instead of shutting down completely.

only the good stuff😁 though let's be honest, beer is what usually leads to the morning after disasters😁 any real beer lover knows if you drink too much, you're going to be dealing with some pretty nasty business in the bathroom the next day

casualskipper65 said:Exactly. Better to stay put, because who knows when or where you'll get hit, and whether you'll actually make it to the bathroom in time.☕

But seriously, diarrhea alone isn't really a symptom. A fever, a dry cough, or shortness of breath—those are the red flags. You shouldn't mess around with those.

I clocked a 99°F on Wednesday and immediately figured I was catching something. Decided to play it safe and stay home, then called my doctor, who told me to go grab a rapid test. The low-grade fever hung around through Thursday, but it's gone now. No other symptoms showed up, but the rapid test came back positive on Saturday. I haven't called the doctor back yet to see what the next move is since I completely lost track of the days and missed my window to call today. That's on hold until tomorrow afternoon. Either way, I'm counting myself as quarantined (I haven't left the house since Wednesday, aside from walking a few minutes to the testing site) through Saturday, but I’m planning on staying isolated for a couple extra days just to be safe.

I know two people who tried calling the CDC to get a sick day because they had an upset stomach, and the agency sent them in for testing instead 😁 they ended up having to self-isolate for 2 days because they were flagged as potentially infectious!!!
Meanwhile, I once downed 5 or 6 beers one night and we polished off a massive spread of bacon and sausage, so naturally, I had the runs the next morning.

What even counts as "first symptoms"??? Am I supposed to just quarantine myself because I have diarrhea?

Nicholas Reed9 said:So, here’s the situation—someone in my household is currently down with COVID. They're stuck in isolation at home, and the rest of us haven't had any real exposure to them; it was purely by chance that they fell ill over the weekend while the rest of us were out running errands and going about our business. We only had one brief interaction—we're talking less than five minutes—and even then, we were wearing masks. I actually spoke with a doctor at the local clinic, and their verdict? None of us need to quarantine. According to them, since the contact was under fifteen minutes, we can head back to work and go about our lives as usual. All we have to do is keep an eye on our temperatures and watch for any symptoms that might pop up, and that's basically it.

Wait, how exactly do you isolate "inside" a house? Like, what happens when they need to use the bathroom or grab a snack???
Quarantine Life in Coronavirus ·
Honestly, these self-isolation rules completely backfired. Take Person A, for example—they’re stuck at home because they were exposed, but they've got a spouse and kids to look after. While Person A is sidelined, the rest of the family still has to head out to work or school. It's a mess, and then we act surprised when our stats look the worst in the West.

😁
I can wrap my head around the organizer taking 10%—you know, dealing with all the payment processing, banking, and payouts... but 30%?!?! No way.
If there are about 30 people playing, that’s $500, sure, fine, let them take $50 for the hassle, but 450?! I don't think so.

The big question remains: will we ever actually see games with a crowd again? And don't even get me started on MLS—that's a lost cause for this year. Maybe next year, if we're lucky.
No HDMI signal from device in IT Support ·
It’s not a driver issue. If you’re plugged in via HDMI, you should be getting a picture regardless since it pulls from the PCIe card automatically. Try switching to a different HDMI port on the GPU, but honestly, it feels like there might be something actually broken inside the PC itself.
Lost data: Is it recoverable and how? in IT Support ·
Insane.
If the laptop acts up whether the battery is plugged in or completely removed, you know it's not a battery issue. Buying a new one would be a total waste of money.
And Windows?! You can download Windows straight from the Microsoft site for free to test things out; they just won't be activated. Plus, how does a reinstall fix driver issues?! WTF?!

Let’s be real, they’re just taking you for a ride.

As someone else mentioned, you'd be better off hitting up a local "mom-and-pop" repair shop nearby. Communication is actually decent, they care about their reputation so they aren't jerks, and the prices are way more reasonable.
Authorized service centers act like they don't give a damn because they know they own you.

How to send money without a bank account or a card? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Drew Peterson3 said:They can't just pull the cash out without placing a bet first.

I know, but you won't find some 1.10 odds to cover the tax hit.
Just slap a bet on an Estonian team at 1.10 and call it a day. If you miss that, you're just cursed, but honestly, it's the easiest way out.

That's why I just load up my Chase card or my Amex on Bet365, bet 10% of the roll on a "sure thing," and then move the funds back to my checking account. Way better than paying those transfer fees when I try to pull directly from my Mastercard.

So, basically, if Person A opens an account at a place like DraftKings or some other sportsbook, then Person B can just deposit money into it $1667 via their username, and then Person B uses their own info to withdraw the cash.
Is it worth upgrading? in Desktops ·
Honestly, I don't see any issue here. If you toss in an extra 4GB of RAM, you'll be fine. Sure, you won't be cranking everything up to Ultra or High settings, but if you aren't a total elitist about graphics, you can definitely run everything just fine.
Windows 10 monitor issues in IT Support ·
The graphics card handles all the monitor functions anyway, so I don't see the point in installing specific monitor drivers.
Is everything working fine on your end?
If it is, then what's the big deal? If you hate the name, just write your own driver to change it. It's not rocket science.
Besides, most monitor drivers don't even exist because they aren't necessary.
