How can I try out an Apple II? in IT Support ·
If I recall correctly, the Macintosh has those RCA jacks. You know, the yellow, white, and red ones. Just grab those three cables, plug them into the Macintosh, and use an RCA-to-SCART adapter on the other end
Troubleshooting my IBM drive failure in IT Support ·
If you popped it open like that, honestly, it’s headed straight for the trash—unless you're looking to drop a massive chunk of change on data recovery (we're talking way more than $5,000)
The motor's dead, and now you've definitely got errors piling up on top of that.

Catholic Church in Wisconsin bans Mass at Wounded Knee in Close to Politics ·
Jason Kern49 said:Let’s be real here: we should just completely scrap any taxpayer-funded events or commemorations related to World War II. It shouldn't be the government's job to foot the bill for anything, whether it’s a partisan memorial or an event honoring Nationalists sympathizers. Period.

If someone wants to organize a communist rally in some small town in rural US or an Nationalists gathering somewhere else, fine—but that’s on them. They can reach into their own pockets and fund it themselves.

I'm not saying we should ban these things.

I wouldn't defend any of it either. If you want to celebrate Nazi Germany, stinking communism, or Royalists, go ahead—just like in America, where everyone who touches that stuff gets rightfully trashed.
If nobody was protecting these groups, people would get bored, and besides those few fanatics, nobody would bother with it.
But let them organize everything with their own cash instead of having the state foot the bill for these little clubs.

Once an SSD dies, it’s dead. If you can't even get an installation running on it, just toss it straight into the trash can
You'd make way more money if you ditched these overpriced gadgets and just grabbed some Chinese gear from Amazon or AliExpress instead. Offer them a lower price point—it’ll perform exactly the same as the stuff on Amazon, trust me. Just ask for a deposit that covers your entire order cost.
I mean, if you try to source this expensive stuff—say, an access point is $600 and the router plus shipping is another $250—you're looking at nearly $900. If you slap a 30% markup on that, you're hitting almost $1,200. Nobody is going to hand you that kind of cash.
Instead, grab 10 APs from China for $20 each, which is only $200, and a switch for $50. That’s $250 total. Throw a $250 profit margin on top, and you've got a $500 package that anyone would be willing to pay for.

silentskipper3 said:Fever basically means anything involving an elevated temperature (fever!!), which I guess explains why it's such a common thing to hear people claiming they have a fever in certain parts of the country. But look, the flu is the flu. There is a distinct difference, and we should probably acknowledge that.

Don't mention it.

In theory, sure, but a ton of folks in the South mistake a fever for the actual flu—I see it all over Facebook. Most people just lump everything together and call it the flu.
What's the point of required reading? in Students & Teens ·
Half the people picking the school reading lists haven't even read half these books themselves. There’s no way they’d ever consider something like *Johnny Got His Gun* or *The Catcher in the Rye* appropriate for kids if they actually understood them.

A professor once told me this little story
An American engineer knows everything about a screw. He knows the metallurgy, the exact hardness, the entire history of the fastener, who invented it, its ancestors, its descendants, the geopolitical climate at the time of its creation, even the specific shape of the head and the shank. He knows the exact year and hour it was patented, down to which apprentice was helping the inventor. But you hand him a screwdriver? He just stands there staring blankly like an idiot, acting like he’s too good for the actual work $2000.

Meanwhile, an American engineer actually knows how to screw the thing in, and he’s pulling in $6,000 an hour over at General Motors.

If you start pushing the "you have to read this" mantra, you're doing it wrong. Forcing people to do anything just backfires.

Fine, if we absolutely have to stick to the classics, can we at least skip the stuff that's basically indecipherable? I'm talking about poetry that feels totally disconnected from reality. Look, I’m no genius—feel free to correct me—but if you didn't spend years studying this in a US University, how the hell are you supposed to get any of this?
TJ, as soon as he finished his life's work
He could hardly sigh under the weight of it,
Grumbling with hunger over cattle feed
Envious of those at the feast,
Wishing to satisfy himself even more
With Peach, as he sweeps through the pigs.

Even the death of Smail aga Čengić—I mean, come on. This is total gibberish unless you're an expert, especially if you're just some 15-year-old kid. I wasn't joking when I said it might as well be written in Armenian to me.

I get it—people who make a career out of analyzing the *Iliad*, the *Odyssey*, or *Dante’s Inferno* think these works are some divine, essential experience that everyone needs to digest. They claim it's about "transcending the text," but let's be real: for most people, it’s just total bullshit.

It’s exactly like when people try to hype up modern art as something profound. Someone splashes a bucket of paint on a canvas or, I don't know, literally pees in a bottle and puts it in a gallery, then tells you that if you don't "get it," you're just uncultured. It's still just bullshit.

We shouldn't be forcing kids to slog through this stuff just to scrape by with a passing grade. What's the point of making them read *Moby Dick* if they're just going to stare at the pages feeling like they're reading ancient hieroglyphics?

I didn't stick to the required reading list, but I definitely read a ton in school. In elementary, it was *Five Friends* and *The Diary of Anne Frank*; in high school, I devoured Sven Hassel, Stephen King, even *Mein Kampf*... mostly just because they actually caught my interest.
Forget the *Odyssey* or the *Iliad* where you can't make heads or tails of anything—not to mention *Judith*. http://www.bulaja.com/Marulic/pdf/judita.pdf Seriously, look at what’s written here. Who can actually read this, and more importantly, why?! It's pure torture. Don't even get me started on all that old-school American prose. BORING. Most classic American literature is just incredibly dull.

Just give kids *The Vampire Diaries* or *Twilight*. That's stuff they'll actually enjoy, rather than listening to some lecture about the "masterpieces" of the dead. Half those authors were probably schizophrenic anyway.
Or maybe try *The Divine Comedy*?

Jose Williams78 said:So, I went through something a few weeks ago, and honestly, I'm not even sure if it was actually the flu. I had all those intense cold symptoms—sore throat, really heavy nasal congestion, and I'm still coughing this up... but on top of that, I felt just totally wiped out. My muscles were aching, specifically my back, and my legs felt like lead. I even had diarrhea. The weird thing is, my fever only hit 37.4 at most. A ton of people around me were dealing with the exact same stuff lately.

Do you think it could be the flu, even if the temperature wasn't that high?

The last time I dealt with a brutal bout of the flu—the kind where you're running a massive fever—was about eight years ago. That was back when everyone was talking about that "swine flu" thing, and man, that one absolutely wrecked me. I was stuck in bed for a full week.

What are the odds that after getting hit with this recent bug, I'm basically immune to the flu for the rest of this season?

That wasn't the flu; it was just some virus. People nowadays call everything "the flu"—as soon as they cough once, they claim it. Especially in certain parts of the country where everyone thinks every little bug is some major illness.
So, you can't really use what someone calls "the flu" as a reliable metric anymore, because people label every common cold that way.
Either hunt down an installation package with USB 3.0 drivers, or just plug it into a USB 2.0 port if you can find one

And honestly? You won't be happy running Windows 7 on a modern PC. Even if you somehow track down every single driver, you're still going to run into constant headaches.

Just forget about using Windows 7.
Anxiety about CDC testing/results in Health ·
Oh, and one more thing—living with CDC today is totally normal. Honestly, you have a better chance of kicking the bucket from the flu right now than from the CDC (assuming it doesn't progress to AIDS).
CDC is actually a tougher diagnosis to deal with than chronic bronchitis (sounds ridiculous, I know, but it’s true). There's no cure, sure, but the odds of it actually killing you? Almost zero.
Anxiety about CDC testing/results in Health ·
Even if you're sleeping with someone who is CDC positive, the odds of catching it are under 0.1%. It’s not like the CDC virus just jumps on you that easily. We're talking maybe 5 cases out of 10,000 encounters.
And besides, there are probably only about 1,000 people living with the CDC in the entire country.

Honestly, you have a better shot at hitting the Powerball jackpot than catching the CDC, and that goes for the whole US, not just here.

Give it a few months and you'll see some guy on eBay selling these for 99 cents 😁 Once the Chinese get their hands on this, they’ll crash the market instantly—it’s going to be beautiful. When Western companies try to sell this stuff, it's a total rip-off, but once the Chinese take over, you can bet it'll be under ten bucks everywhere.

Don't sweat it—you aren't going to run into any trouble from that iframe. In theory, sure (since it’s ancient), it could redirect you to some sketchy site that tries to trigger a download, but you'd actually have to manually install an extension for that to even work. Most modern browsers aren't that stupid these days. So, you're safe to hang out here on Reddit.

Yep! That was it. Some stupid setting was turned on there.
