Did I actually ask you what your thoughts were on this topic? 😁

Much like several of your other impressions, this one is also completely off base.

I suppose I’ll just leave you to decide whether to take my word for it or not—presenting the actual arguments would probably just be considered uncivilized at this point.

gentlepuma20 said:...or perhaps they just let users talk nonsense indefinitely while the mods step in to clean up the trolling, spamming, and off-topic clutter. That used to be how things worked.

"How things used to work" requires a massive amount of moderator involvement—which I don't think is happening here, given that Adobe currently only has about three mods in theory. 🙂

To my mind, the situation over at the FBI is somewhat unique: you have a relatively small "core group," occasional guests drifting in from other Adobe boards, and the periodic influx of newcomers (who, frankly, have an overwhelming tendency to start their own personal threads).

As much as I advocate for the "get through the serious discussion first, then we can pivot to sports and music" approach 😁, I truly believe that "letting people run wild" would mostly just hurt the newcomers—those who rarely even bother to glance at the rules—and they’d likely end up getting sanctioned for overstepping. That would only fuel more senseless protests about some perceived "old-timer privilege."

In this specific instance, the author made it crystal clear that she was fed up and that the thread needed to move on. Besides, the thread is basically burnt out at this point.

cosmicskipper39 said:Is there any way to actually stop users from posting massive images? It feels like they try to bypass everything—kind of like how people try to cram more than ten emojis into a single post just to break the layout.

I don't think so, honestly. At the end of the day, "posting an image" is really just dropping a link to a file—and frankly, who knows what’s actually lurking behind those links anyway? 🙂

Besides, ignorance of the rules isn't exactly a crime—and I certainly don't recall getting pulled over by a cop just because I was cruising down the interstate at my usual 80 mph.🥳

cosmicskipper39 said:You guys are being a bit much with the complaints about image uploads exceeding 640 pixels—and these threads that clearly exist just to mess with people who don't take this forum quite seriously enough.😕

Honestly, if I could, I’d love to send a massive surge of high voltage straight through the Ethernet cable of any user posting images large enough to distort my entire screen layout. It isn't even about whether someone takes this forum "seriously" or not.

The same amount of voltage should probably be directed at those people posting those hideous, oversized advertisements we've been seeing lately. 🥳

I mean, I guess you could argue there's no such thing as a perfect system, but really? In an environment like this? It’s just... it's beyond frustrating.

What kind of things—and in what kind of places, exactly? 🤣

There are two main issues here—first off, this thread devolved into basic small talk almost immediately. I suppose that’s perfectly logical, given that the original premise was fundamentally incompatible with the way people actually argue on these forums, which isn't necessarily a bad thing in itself.

Second of all—assuming anyone actually decides to start a thread on this (which, let’s be honest, they probably won't)—if we were to even consider... 😁If this platform were actually repurposed as an exclusive venue just for arguing—well, that would honestly be quite something. It would be rather ideal, I suppose—much like how non-football fans get the chance to enjoy the peace and quiet of a city during a massive rivalry game. 🙂

The issue regarding post quality and overall presentation lies with the users themselves—not the moderators.

What brightridge59 and (if my memory serves me right) VH do from time to time is perfectly fine—actually, they deserve more credit for it, since it clearly takes a decent amount of time and patience.

We have to keep in mind that we're talking about an American forum—one where you constantly see newcomers popping up with stories that might actually be interesting, except they're just—good grief—completely unreadable due to a total lack of formatting. In those instances, deleting a single post essentially means nuking the entire thread, and I really doubt that’s going to sit well with the new guys. Besides, someone is bound to jump in eventually with some sort of "old-timer conspiracy theory" anyway.

At this point, forcing people to use proper formatting feels less like moderation and more like some kind of rookie training seminar. 😁

brightridge59 said:Editing a post becomes absolutely necessary when the text is just plain unreadable—which, let’s be honest, happens more often than I'd care to admit.

Now, if we are talking about an Enter key malfunction or some minor technical glitch like that, well, that's just pure technicality and shouldn't really count.

When I use the term "editing," I am referring to any actual intervention made to the substance of the content itself.

northerntiger said:You really ought to be editing things—especially those illiterate headlines, like the one sitting on the Career and Jobs board for days now, asking about how much banks are crying over losses.

Look, an illiterate headline—or whatever else qualifies as poorly written—isn't the kind of "editing" Ryan Vaughn7 is talking about. I mean, the second a moderator starts playing judge on what constitutes "good" content versus other parts of a post, things get... well, awkward.

At the end of the day, it’s a hell of a lot less work to just scrap the entire post altogether. 🙂

Ryan Vaughn7 said:People who only partially edit their messages end up leaving behind that one "good" part of the post, which defeats the whole purpose.

Honestly, nothing good ever comes from editing a post.

I really think we should just ban post editing across all our US forums—at least, unless it’s for purely technical stuff, like fixing a broken quote, merging a couple of posts together, or some other minor housekeeping task.

dustypuma5 said:And honestly, who has the time to scroll through fifteen pages of chat logs every single day?

It’s not about who’s reading them—it’s about who’s actually going to sit there and type out all those chat logs in the first place? 😁

It’s just unrealistic to expect moderators—who are essentially volunteers—to spend their free time combing through endless walls of chat just to hunt down someone using all caps or an extra smiley face.

Nice try, Dr. Fleischmann. But, let's be real, we know the truth, we really do... 😁

Arthur Thomas said:Furthermore, allowing that kind of tolerance—well, it just strikes me as unprofessional and lacking any sense of perfectionism. 🤷

Good grief, you really need to take a breath and relax. 🙂

Terms like "professional" or "perfectionist" 😲aren't exactly the right descriptors to use when you're talking about the intended vibe of an entire internet forum, let alone a single chat thread.

rapidtrucker14 said:Well, the image quality isn't exactly top-tier—when I try tracing it, everything ends up looking sort of wavy...

It seems like what I'm actually hunting for is how to lock an image onto its own layer and which specific tool I should be using to plot out those curves, right?

Look, I don't touch X4, so I can't tell you the exact menu path or anything. 🙂

In the older versions, you’d go to Tools -> object manager -> New Layer, then just import your image into that layer and "disable" the editability setting.

As for the curves, you just use the standard drawing tools—you know, lines, ellipses, rectangles, all that stuff. If you aren't particularly gifted in that department, I suppose you could always hand it off to some kid with an ice cream cone; they'd probably knock it out in a heartbeat. 🙂

rapidtrucker14 said:Does anyone know how to trace a character if I only have a .jpeg file? I need it to be vector paths so I can actually work with it... what is the specific tool used for this kind of thing?

Unless the image is—and I mean *really* high resolution (meaning one of those automatic tracing features might actually hold up)—the method that'll cost you the least amount of sanity and time is probably the most tedious one: just drop the image onto a locked layer and manually draw the curves right over the top of it.

Quite the opposite. You just completely threw her off her game.

Look, everyone knows you don't just throw dry beans in there. You use the canned stuff, right? The kind already sitting in liquid... those won't swell up on you. 😉

They’re just throwing it away—it’s that simple.

It’s just that they failed to explain to everyone—quite clearly, I might add—that you actually need to remove it from the can before you toss it out.

Well, you go ahead and see for yourself what happens to that pathetic excuse for a server once you give it a good smack.
