Excel help: how do I round numbers? in Software ·
wanderingmoose59 said:I have this column filled with MSRP prices, and I’m looking to round them all to the nearest $0.00... For instance,
if a price sits somewhere between 500.00 and 505.00, I want it rounded down to 500.00—but if it's between 505.01 and 509.99, I want it bumped up to 510.00, and so on, applied consistently across the whole column.
I hope I made myself clear enough, and thanks in advance.

The first guy here who refuses to round anything except upwards, I suppose. 🙂

Using =ROUND(A1,-1) should accomplish exactly what you need for the value in cell A1.
Gary Williams47 said:Maybe I’m just out of the loop here—and I might be totally wrong—but all these tools you guys are mentioning seem more like data recovery software to me. There are a million different programs out there for recovering lost files, but what we're actually talking about is browser history... though, hey, go ahead if you think you're right.

So, where exactly is browser history stored?... 🙂

Sarah Cooper41 said:Look, the truth is I just don't have the energy to deal with this right now—especially since you can clearly see I’ve got enough on my own plate without adding this to the pile. And honestly? I haven't even been following your posts that closely. I’ve mostly just realized that your whole condescending, "know-it-all" attitude is actually killing the desire to write for some women who are already dealing with being cheated on. It’s just exhausting.

If I could charge ten bucks every single time I submitted a quote request only to be met with some lazy, "Ugh, I don't feel like it" attitude... man, I’d be absolutely loaded by now.

So, instead of actually backing up your little "claim" that I’m being threatening—which, for the record, I still maintain is a blatant, shameless lie—you aren't just trying to wiggle out of it with that notorious "well, I just feel that way" excuse... you're actually going as far as to offer this pathetic little confession. You basically admitted that you made the statement without even following my posts closely enough to know what's what. And then, to top it all off, you throw in another ridiculous fabrication—claiming (and honestly, WTF, "how much did you manage to pick up on?"—it isn't exactly rocket science here) that I supposedly "crushed the desire to write" for certain women. Even if that were true—which it absolutely isn't—what on earth does that have to do with your original, false accusation regarding our differing opinions on various topics?

Regarding this whole "killing the desire to write" nonsense: first off, there’s an option on this forum to just completely ignore anyone who is supposedly "destroying my motivation." It’s not that complicated. Secondly—and I hate to be the one to point this out—there is an entire mountain of positive feedback right here in this same thread regarding my writing style and my tone. Honestly, it feels a bit ridiculous to even have to quote those responses here—though, just to be clear, unlike you, I actually have specific quotes I can use to back up my claims.

So, what exactly are you looking for from me here—and why on earth are you trying to put words in my mouth? Honestly, I don't get it. Why are you dragging me into this specific thread when, frankly, none of this has anything to do with me?

If I were actually going to step in and start meddling with someone else's lies—which, honestly, is a slippery slope—I suppose I’d have to take a moment to really think things through before just being blunt and telling the truth.

That’s really all there is to it—if you can even call it that. Please, don't go nitpicking my grammar right now—seriously. I mean, I only brought you up to serve as a link to the others.

I honestly have no idea what anyone actually means when they throw around a term like "third-party connection." I mean, I guess it’s one of those vague buzzwords people use to sound important, but frankly, it doesn't mean much to me—it just sounds like more unnecessary jargon. 😲 Look, where exactly do you get the nerve to think that—after you just threw two blatant lies my way—that I should somehow just let them slide? You honestly expect me to just "not hold you to your word"? Well, newsflash: why on earth wouldn't I call you out on them right here on a public platform like this forum?

Let me say this one more time—either you find some actual quotes to back up these threats of mine (including that nonsense about "destroying my desire to write") or you admit you’re just a shameless liar who lacks even a shred of decency to own up to a mistake and apologize. If you really enjoyed going through all the trouble of spinning these lies, then maybe go ahead and put in a little more effort and try to actually prove them.

It’s your move.

Sarah Cooper41 said:No one even bothered to notice that the girls were annoyed by the performance of this guy, Nicholas King, who clearly writes about "triangles" in one tone, yet switches to an entirely different vibe when discussing "inverted" shapes...

Since this is all so "obvious" to you, I assume you'll have no trouble backing up this massive lie with a few actual quotes? Surely you aren't going to turn out to be someone who just spouts nonsense without a single shred of evidence, right?

Adam Sanchez25 said:I know this probably seems incredibly trivial to most of you—and I apologize if it does—but it’s driving me absolutely crazy, so if anyone could lend a hand, I’d really appreciate it. Basically, how do I get rid of that final, stubborn blank page? For instance, I have 15 pages of actual content perfectly printed, but then there's this 16th page sitting there completely empty, and for some reason, I just can't seem to delete it. Any advice whatsoever?

The issue is likely that you have a Page break, a Section break, or perhaps a table at the end of page 15. For whatever bizarre reason, Microsoft Word insists on inserting an extra line immediately following a table—it's one of those annoying little quirks. If that happens to be the case, try selecting that pesky extra line and setting the font size to 1.

There’s a second, unspoken half to your argument here. 🙂

I honestly believe that one real, gritty, back-and-forth debate—the kind I’ve actually had some serious scraps in, mind you—is worth more than fifty of those wannabe forum dwellers who just post "screw whoever gave you internet" nonsense along with their illiterate, tedious ramblings.

It’s like being on a sports team where you have the "water boys" doing all the running, digging, and sweating, while you've got that one guy who spent until 3:00 AM out at a strip club, can barely stand up straight, but somehow manages to pull off a perfect assist to the striker right when it counts. 🙂

I'm not entirely sure if there’s any way to check how long a user's ban actually lasts—so I have to ask this bluntly: did those two really get hit with a permanent ban?

If they did—and without getting into the messy specifics of what happened—I would honestly advocate for a review of that decision and perhaps even some form of clemency... maybe we could mark the occasion with something like Independence Day in friendly Tajikistan.🙂 In my view, both of them—as eccentric as they may be in their own particular ways—are essentially endemic species of this forum; without them, the community feels significantly diminished.

Now, while I am someone who generally adheres strictly to the rules, I can't help but recall that not-so-distant case involving that one "renegade outcast star"—where the whole thing was overturned because they looked too closely at the repeated cloning of a banned user. In my humble opinion, there were far fewer actual justifications for banning that person than there are for these two. So, I suppose, a reversal is possible.

You really ought to take a look at your "Infractions" section—it’s all laid out there for you. Well, I suppose I should say it's all laid out in red on white, rather than black on white. 🙂

Now, this part actually interests me: we have roughly the same number of posts—in fact, I even have a few more months of seniority on this forum than you do—yet, unlike you, I don't see myself as some sort of seasoned veteran of the online chat scene who can look down from a high horse and spit on these "lizards," especially since I haven't even been at this for a full year. 🙂

The fact that I have a bit of a bone to pick with the "Oh, you won't find anything on the Internet!" generation—well, that's a completely different story. 🙂

hollowmason64 said:It used to be a place where you could just mess around—sure, people might get roasted occasionally, but it was always all in the spirit of keeping things lighthearted.

I won't speculate on everything else, but this particular point is just flat-out wrong.

I don't claim to be some kind of "LJES veteran," so I have neither the ability nor the desire to group myself into some arbitrary "us" category—you know, the supposed group of victims that these "evil moderators" are supposedly persecuting for some shadowy agenda (honestly, invoking "veterans" or the "old guard" on an open forum like this is pretty much pointless). That being said, I think I can calmly argue that LJES is finally seeing actual moderation—not just in terms of steering discussions, but also in the sense of consolidating a million identical threads (which, I imagine, is a massive chore) and defining what the PDF community actually looks like.

LJES was never primarily a "place for good banter"—quite the opposite, actually. For a long time, it was characterized by a lack of restraint, a total absence of control, and, frankly, a fair amount of boredom, whether looking at serious posts or the "funny" ones.

Furthermore, those little spikes of "they're targeting us, we're fighting them" are completely baseless. As long as the rules of the game are clear and they are applied consistently, nobody is being targeted for who they are.

Daniel Ward87 said:First, you're right, but I touched on this in my last post... mods are just regular users with extra responsibilities. Some people here seem to think mods should be on duty 24/7, policing everything perfectly... and most actually do. But when they start acting like "just another user," that's where things change—that's when an automatic Ban happens. That's the core of it.

Second, it depends on the specific chat session. I left a single post on that thread; do you really think I deserve a three-day Ban for that? You can't call one single post "chatting." You can't generalize like that; every situation needs to be looked at individually. That’s my take...

Daniel Ward87

Well, look at you. 🙂

The sentence "Well, dainty says—you're just circling the drain without seeing the full picture of certain things..." is insulting, rude, and frankly arrogant. You have neither the reason nor the right to be so patronizing.

Just as Steven Ruiz could have apologized for the Prime Minister's post and ended up looking like a total joke, you others in this discussion could also choose to show a little less arrogance and actually become tolerable conversationalists. It is precisely because of that condescension that hiding behind phrases like "but we're all just forum users" sounds incredibly hollow.

A real shame.

sorry, but it’s actually hilarious how the mods either act totally clueless or just haven't sharpened their pencils today 🤣

Yeah, right—I'm apparently incapable of doing anything, yet I have to constantly second-guess my own sentences, wondering if someone's going to misinterpret them as some kind of provocation.

Daniel Ward87 said:It’s honestly sad how you guys act like moderators aren't part of the community too...Regular users break the rules all the time and take the cards and Bans, while mods have to deal with all kinds of nonsense while trying to stay chill, level-headed, and rational—every single day. But the second a mod slips up on the rules, they deserve an even harsher penalty just because they happen to be 🙄

What's with this whole "rules apply to everyone" thing? You guys throw that out constantly, but suddenly the tune changes when it involves the mods. If you're going to preach consistency, then actually be consistent.

Daniel Ward87

They don't. It’s not like you all signed some lifelong moderator's oath. If you can't handle the heat, simply get out of the kitchen. It really is that simple.

When moderators decide to bend the rules, they should be hit with even harsher penalties precisely because they hold the title of moderator. 🙄

Absolutely.

What about that whole forum mantra, "the rules apply to everyone equally"?

Three words: two-day unpunished chat.

Daniel Ward87 said:🙄 Come on, don't be a hypocrite... How many times have you broken the Lions Club rules without getting slapped with an instant three-day ban? Nobody is disputing what we did, but when the moderators mess up, there should be an immediate 3-day ban—no questions asked. When "regular" users screw up, well, that's where the debate starts.

Daniel Ward87

You already hit me with the first argument: there is a massive difference between when moderators act up versus when regular users do.

Secondly—let's just assume for a second that the rules apply equally to everyone. Can you honestly, without even blinking, tell me that "regular" users could just chat away for two days straight and only walk away with a mere 30 points?
Moderators are being so petty, uncreative, and incompetent in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Steven Ruiz said:Well, like I said, it wasn't.
But then again, we all got punished too...
And honestly, don't even try to play dumb here...

So, what's the real issue here?
Would you guys really prefer it if we hadn't been penalized at all?

The real issue—if we’re being honest—is that this whole situation has been handled poorly. Just... incredibly poorly. Right from the jump.

First off, there was this universal defense of the Prime Minister's right to post.

Then, out of nowhere, a wave of bans just hits—and suspiciously, they all seem to come in one big package.

After that, people were chatting away about the "banned" users for two straight days.

Then, predictably, a whopping 30 points were handed out for it.

And finally, forum members are being told—from more than one direction, mind you—to stay out of things they supposedly "aren't involved in."

Each of these points deserves a deep dive, really, but if I had to sum them up in a single sentence: don't do this. It isn't right, and frankly, you're just creating unnecessary friction and bad blood.

Austin Chavez6 said:Exactly. It feels more like a designated zone for venting at the "head of state"—meaning the forum users—often in ways that are increasingly harsh or nasty. There used to be actual interesting stuff to read here. Now, it’s just a circus, especially with the chat cluttering up almost every thread. Sure, it's a more laid-back subforum, but I think the lines were crossed a long time ago. There's this loud minority on LJES that dictates whether a thread stays on topic or devolves into a mass pile-on, and the mods aren't doing much to steer them back. I get that the mods can't be online 24/7, but they have to know something has been off on LJES for a while now.

The only real solution here—if we're being honest—is to ruthlessly delete the mindless topics and those incredibly stupid posts. I mean, it would result in significantly fewer posts overall. Which, by extension, means significantly fewer clicks.

Are you actually certain that approach will work? 🙄

look, people have said all sorts of things and there have been plenty of different perspectives flying around
but you really have to understand the necessity of shaking an issue up from every possible angle, weighing every single reason for and against it, just to get the full picture

Now, I don't claim to know exactly how the sequence of events unfolded, but to me—and I dare say this as someone who is well-meaning and certainly not prone to conspiracy theories—it appeared as though Slafk essentially "fell" victim to the mistaken belief that posting was perfectly fine, while Steven Ruiz ended up being banned significantly after the entire debate had played out. All in all, it’s a strange saga.

If some sort of "final ruling" ever actually surfaced stating that the Prime Minister's post would be punished with a one-month 😲😲😲 ban, well, I certainly haven't seen it.

steelskipper5 said:Speaking of which—it looks like Slafk finally got slapped with a ban for leaking private messages. Typical.
So, some moderator pulled this stunt recently—which is exactly why things started blowing up in the comments. People were saying it isn't okay, but honestly? It’s not like there’s anything in the official rules that actually forbids it... at least not until you start leaking private info.

It’s just this blatant inequality and unfairness—and honestly, to put it bluntly, the hypocrisy—that’s making me start to absolutely loathe this forum.
If it weren't for a few of my favorite people here—honestly, just a handful of you—I probably would have walked away from this place a long time ago.

Something rather bizarre happened here: what started as a series of earnest defenses of that specific action by—well, let's just say—certain moderators, ended up resulting in Steven Ruiz losing his moderator status entirely and being relegated to gray status for now. Honestly, even I found that unexpected; I hadn't gotten the impression that this had suddenly become such a massive "big no-no" again.

Look, I’m going to pivot slightly toward LJES and how things are being moderated there. Which means I'm indirectly addressing you, too.
The whole "Why is the population becoming more gay?" thread basically devolved into nothing but insults and blatant hate speech. And this wasn't just a momentary lapse; it dragged on for days.
I was busy reporting posts myself. Other people were also chiming in saying they had filed reports.
If I take a look here and there, I can see that some of those reported posts haven't even been dealt with yet; they just sit there.

I actually handed out two warnings for hate speech on that specific thread, and if my memory serves me right, those were pretty much the exact posts you were flagging. 🙂
I'll need to go back through the report logs if I want to tell you for certain, though.

I wiped quite a few posts from that discussion while I actually had the spare time to read through them, but unfortunately, work has been a nightmare lately along with a mountain of personal stuff, so I haven't been able to dedicate much time to it.

Regardless of who’s who in this mess, I find it—well, it’s just strange—that Slafk can post with the frequency of a retiree's morning urge, while the main sycophants from that thread feel entitled to spit all over everyone whenever they damn well please.
