Who's going to screw whom over? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Matthew Anderson4 said:I think you’re overthinking this one—you aren't responsible if someone else loses their cool and starts throwing insults, provided your own post isn't breaking any site rules.

Look, an older brother isn't to blame if he teases his little sibling until they start sobbing and throwing a tantrum—even if the kid ends up getting grounded by their parents. ☕

Trust me, I know how to dance right on the edge of what's allowed just to bait an opponent into crossing the line. I'm speaking from experience here.

See, you talk about provocations and then—boom—you write this 🤣

And that's a provocation?
That's interesting. Because that description could pretty much apply to absolutely everyone involved in this argument.

Yeah, maybe it is a provocation. 😁

shadowseal12 said:I honestly don't get how anyone can actually get framed with a disciplinary record—it just doesn't make sense to me. 🤷

If I go out of my way to provoke you just to get you to snap and insult me—then yeah, I basically set you up for that penalty.
Look, if you manage to play the victim over some totally harmless comment just to get the moderators to jump down my throat—then you’ve basically handed me a free pass to shut you down.

Religion is such a nasty little minefield when it comes to this stuff. Honestly—back before we even had a formal system for reporting posts or handing out warnings—the book of complaints would’ve been flooded daily with dozens of reports from every single side of the argument. You'd see endless requests to delete threads and constant accusations of bias... and just knowing how people on this forum act, I’m pretty sure now that since anyone can flag a post, the reports are coming in like a damn flood. I bet some users are out there reporting absolutely every single thing their opponent says just because they don't agree with them. I mean, sooner or later, someone is bound to say something that looks like an insult or some other rule violation to a moderator, right?
Once you realize that’s how they play—once you see they're actually going for it—you just have to jump in. You play their game, because honestly? You've got to take them down before they finish tearing you apart.

Religion is a hellhole. It’s just like any other place where heretics open their filthy mouths to insult the zealots—people who, I guess, should probably just pick up whatever weapons are necessary to shut them up for good.

And hey, don't just give it a title like this one—try to come up with something actually informative.

Chloe Hughes15 said:Look, this forum might be a better place to hang out than Facebook, but honestly? The way you phrased your post just doesn't sound very motivating—it’s more like, "I can't do it, so I guess someone else will have to."
I mentioned Patagonia as an example because their female leadership really stepped up and inspired dozens of people.
Maybe try putting a little more thought into your marketing approach... 🙂

… which is totally doable if you actually stick to a theme.
For instance, maybe posting something about supporting deaf basketball players would fit perfectly in the sport section.

The only thing popping into my head right now is... honestly, who knows. 🤷

First off—when things actually hit the fan, people's main priority is just looking out for number one. It’s survival mode, plain and simple. Second—let's be real—if you bring this up in the wrong corner of the internet, nobody is going to give a damn. It's just the wrong venue for this kind of talk.
Admins, do you report forum users to their ISPs for abuse? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Nicholas King said:Given how many forums are out there, do you think people would wait long before they just moved somewhere else? 🙂

Yeah. Totally.

How many forums even like this exist in America?
As far as I can tell—not many.

Back when this forum went down for a bit a while back, a few dozen of us basically invaded the Globalnet forum. It was a whole thing. And then, as soon as this place was back up, we all just vanished from there.

feraltrucker5 said:Look, people are already doing that—plenty of users have pulled reports because of those kinds of outbursts. Sadly, it doesn't always work as smoothly as we’d hope. There are always those persistent nuisances who just won't quit, no matter what you do. 😵

Personally, I’m all for the old-school IRC tactics: if the first report doesn't do the trick, you send a second one. And if you need a third? Well, then you go after the entire ISP by getting them blocked—let them explain to their own customers why they aren't actually handling the abuse reports being sent to their service desk.
Imagine serving every single user a landing page that basically says, “Access denied because your ISP, $ISP, is refusing to act on reports regarding users who disrupt discussions and violate their terms of service. For more info, check abuse@isp.com.”
Given how many users there are, don't you think we might have to pull a move like that more than once? 😁

Especially if you include that kind of threat in the follow-up report.

For those who don't get it—or are just playing dumb—the forum admins have the power to ban a user. And once they do, they can go hunting for any clone accounts and nuke those too. The problem is, some people just keep spinning up new profiles and causing chaos until they finally push someone over the edge.
At the same time, the admins can grab that user's IP address, contact the abuse department at their ISP, lay out exactly what kind of nonsense the person is pulling, and ask them to handle it.
Usually, the user gets a warning before they actually get kicked off the grid. I’ve actually dealt with this myself a few times when spammers were hounding me via Microsoft. For whatever reason, once an ISP steps in like that, the bullshit usually stops.
Rebranding LJS in Feedback & Suggestions ·
feraltrucker5 said:Hey. 🙂

Do you guys actually have any constructive ideas to make LJS better, or are we just gonna sit here and chat? 😁

I mean, you know how it works. The mods can't just open whatever threads you want—you gotta start them yourselves, and then the mods will step in to keep the discussion from turning into a total mess. 🙂

Look, watch what you say: they just nuked a thread that was supposedly high-quality, all because it wasn't explicitly about Erotica.
I'll admit, I didn't catch it myself, but I see exactly where LJS has been heading for a while now. That's why I’m finding myself hanging out there less and less.

So, my actual suggestion is pretty straightforward: stop deleting threads that actually make sense.

😁

Alright, look—just let me have a little poetic license here.
Rebranding LJS in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’m honestly just here to throw my support behind this initiative. LJS has basically devolved into nothing but endless talk about sex, sex, and more sex—all while actual discussions about romance or Erotica get mocked, spammed, or just straight-up deleted.
The name should actually reflect what's happening here.

crimsonhound80 said:Ah, right, because objective rules don't actually exist on our little forum, apparently.

Look, legally speaking, you aren't allowed to call anyone corrupt; whether it's the Church, a corporation, or an individual.
I mean, sure, you *can* say it, but if you make a claim like that, it's actionable—you'd have to produce actual evidence for those assertions, otherwise, it's straight-up libel and you could easily find yourself facing a lawsuit. 😁

As for your signature? To me, that part where you suggest the Pope should be arrested... well, that's hate speech.
One could argue "that" is just a joking signature, but—given how well I know your body of work and your whole #modus operandi# regarding Religion—I know you actually mean it. 😛

And you, Roger Barrett2, ought to know damn well that your statement was blatant hate speech and should have earned 500 points and/or a formal report.

See, I don't see anything controversial in his statement whatsoever, and it certainly didn't deserve a penalty from Brenda Cook4.
What's more, she couldn't even figure out how to phrase the penalty, so she ended up writing this entire long-winded essay as an explanation. 😂

Sorry for jumping in here, but I'm a bit bored, just got back from a swim and all that. 😬

As long as the news outlets keep printing whatever they want, I can call any political party corrupt and just point to the headlines as my excuse. ☕
Regarding your signature—for me, the part where you suggest the Pope should be arrested qualifies as hate speech.
Sure, "that" could be seen as a joke by some, but since I'm pretty well acquainted with your whole body of work and your #activism# regarding Religion, I know you actually mean it. 😛

Man, seriously, go do some actual research on what constitutes hate speech.
The way this was written, it didn't even come close to being hate speech.

Roger Barrett2 said:The context doesn't really matter here—and honestly, it isn't as different from what you think as you might imagine, but I don't have the time to dive into that right now. What matters is that you labeled the Catholic Church a criminal organization—essentially an IBM group of people teaming up specifically to carry out criminal activities. On top of that, you aren't distinguishing between individuals; you're just throwing everyone into one big bucket.

In my view, neither your remark about the Pope, nor my post regarding gay rights, nor your claim that the Church is a criminal organization should be considered punishable. However, given the specific criteria the moderators set and the admins backed, I fully expect you to get sanctioned.

The Church has been around way too long for its definition of a criminal organization to work like that. It's an established institution that—well, let's face it—has pivoted some of its activities toward crime. I mean, look at how the Vatican Bank was caught up in money laundering... ☕
I don't think your comment about the Pope signing off, my post regarding gay people, or your claim that the Church is a criminal org should be punishable. But, given the specific criteria the mods set up—which the admins then backed—I'm expecting you to get hit with a penalty.

As far as I know, the right way to handle this is to report an indecent post, then send a PM to a moderator or an admin... so, actually, you might end up getting screwed yourself for publicly calling out my post like this instead of following the actual procedure.

Now, we'll just have to wait and see if anyone in charge actually decides to speak up.

Roger Barrett2 said:I went to great lengths to explain exactly what I said and how I said it, making sure even someone who wasn't paying attention could follow my logic. There is absolutely no basis for claiming my post was hate speech or warranted a legal report. I have no intention of repeating that entire explanation again.

Look, if I'm not allowed to equate the immoral actions of an individual with criminal activity, then you shouldn't be equating certain institutions with criminal activity either. That is my entire point.

It's quite something that you're so eager to hand out sanctions—let's just see what the moderators have to say about this whole situation.

I am not equating an institution with criminal activity. I am arguing that a specific institution is a criminal organization—meaning, instead of actually doing what they claim to stand for, they operate for their own gain at everyone else's expense. And since there's more and more evidence showing organized cover-ups of crimes (like pedophilia, for instance), I think that claim, strictly speaking, holds water. It doesn't really matter that most of this is being proven in foreign countries, because the Catholic Church is one single, universal, and indivisible entity.
The only conclusion I'm drawing from all this is that I disagree with people who view it as some wonderful, beautiful organization, and I don't want to give them my money. Your post was all about limiting the human rights of people you happen to deem immoral.

By that logic, I guess my comment about the Pope's signature is probably offensive and punishable too.
Epignosis corruption scandal; John Doe's criminal enterprise in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Look, if what I said is actually against the rules, then I’m assuming it’s just as illegal to call CNN, Duke Energy, or Amtrak corrupt outfits—or to label some political party a criminal organization, which is a phrase you see popping up on this site all the time. Or at least it used to be, anyway... I haven't been keeping super close tabs on things lately.

Fine. If my comment really was such a massive violation, then whatever.
But you, Epignosis, should probably realize that your own statement was straight-up hate speech and honestly deserved a 500-point penalty or even a police report.

Jason Harris5 said:hollowtrucker77... it’s all about the name... sounds so formal and rigid... people get intimidated and worry about heading over to the off topic section or actually trying to be serious... 🙂

It would be great if these kinds of debates could actually settle those nasty arguments happening in other subforums... you know, when people start trading insults and trash-talking, and then a moderator just locks the whole thread with some "take this to the formal debate section" nonsense.

But yeah, I get it—the subforum title is pretty intimidating. People get a little hesitant because they think they need some specialized degree just to participate.
Then again, looking at everything here, I guess we really can consider the art of making an actual argument as a specific skill set... 😢

I was just sitting here wondering today—why on earth isn't such a brilliant guy running the show as a mod?
I got an answer from God before I even had the chance to hope for one.

So smart, yet so completely socially inept.

I’d honestly vote for JoWu for moderator because he seems like such a chill, decent guy. But at the same time, man, I’d hate to have to sit here and read people tearing him down. No one else can be as sweet as he is. 😍

🤦

What a total waste of effort—posting ads when absolutely nobody, and I mean nobody, is reading them. 😢
