Let’s be real here, we’ve played absolute garbage games under Lin before where there was zero tactical structure and the wings were completely ignored. The only difference this time was that instead of having Karačić, Kopljar, and Duvnjak out there, we had Balić, Metličić, and Lacković running the show—so we managed to pull it off purely through sheer individual talent.
I’ve never once seen Duvnjak function as a playmaker... he’s much more of a lethal shooter. When I watch Hansen from Denmark playing center back, the guy just looks like he's in a completely different league at that position. 🤷

The odds of someone as much of a pushover as Vera Farmiga being single after twenty years are... zero. I mean, Robert Downey Jr. playing Tony Stark? There’s really no comparison there. Honestly, the whole movie just felt lukewarm to me. 6/10

Steven Kelly35 said:Someone is getting absolutely screwed here. Based on how much this jerk got fined, his daily take-home is basically $122, which puts his monthly salary at roughly $3667.

Honestly, I’d love to ask him how he plans to afford a Bentley that costs well over $150,000 on a monthly paycheck of only $3667.
James Garcia50 said:You claimed those random Danish shows that got remade by US studios were unimportant. You're wrong.
And you said foreign films bore audiences? Wrong again.

An American series will never touch the quality of a British one; they can only dream.

We aren't splitting hairs here; we're talking about movies and shows, which means we're talking about authorship.

It’s not the same.
Theft is theft, but for a remake, the rights were bought legally and the deal was signed at the office. Huge difference.

🤦

I honestly don't get the hype surrounding that show. People won't shut up about it, but I still can't wrap my head around why everyone thinks it's such a masterpiece. 🤷
It was fine, I guess, but it definitely didn't blow my mind or anything.
I actually thought Rectify was great, though.
I watch a ton of TV—pretty much everything out there. If I had to pick some favorites from the newer stuff, I'd go with Breaking Bad, Southland, Mad Men, and Justified. Then you've got the all-time classics like the Sopranos and The Wire, and honestly, the most underrated show ever is The Shield.
Standard of living in Cuba is better than in America in Close to Politics ·
briskbison55 said:Well, you can actually get in with a special permit. I have this business colleague, an Englishman, who heads over to Cuba once a year for a few weeks at a time, and because of his status, he’s allowed to drive cars and access pretty much any part of the island. And honestly? Because of him—literally just one guy—the university, two hospitals, and most likely some government ministries (though he won't admit it) all have IT systems that he spends his time upgrading as much as he possibly can.

So, what he's describing is the actual reality of the poverty and the frustration there. It really doesn't line up with those stories they try to feed us about some happy, carefree people living their best lives.

What "special permit" are you talking about? 🤣
Stop talking nonsense. I rented a car in Cuba and drove from Havana all the way to Baracoa without any issues. You can go wherever you want. No permits, no roadblocks, nothing.

And obviously, the standard of living in Cuba isn't any better than it is in the US.
Ivica Olić needs to be in the starting XI, otherwise we might as well not even show up. ☕
Christian Hernandez11 said:I’m not so sure the Spaniards will actually take first in our group. The backbone of their squad is basically that FC Barcelona midfield, and they’ve been struggling all season. Besides, their biggest threat is the team that made it to the World Cup finals last time.

Nah, the Spaniards are going to cruise into first place. And God knows how the Netherlands is going to play. I wouldn't even be shocked if they fail to get out of the group stage.

mistyseal8 said:I disagree.

We aren't that bad. We’re actually a really solid squad, especially when we're having an on day. World-class teams don't scare us; we beat them, we draw with them, or maybe we lose by a hair. Our real issue is playing against teams that are right at our level or even weaker. That's when that "it's easy" mentality kicks in, and suddenly we're stuck because we lack the creativity to break down a parked bus.

Cut the chatter. Brazilians are just lazy guys; they'll be slow and sluggish in the first match—classic lazy South American style. That's where we grab our chance. By the way, top-tier teams usually ease into these tournaments, pacing themselves so they hit peak form after the group stage. You see it all the time with those "southern" teams.

Not a chance.
crimsonnomad7 said:If we were actually being "realistic," we wouldn't be taking on Germans, Englishmen, Dutchmen, or Italians in these kinds of matchups. And against an even tougher squad back in Germany, we only walked away with a 0:1 loss against Brazil, where one of the gods of soccer, Ronaldinho, was on the pitch.

Luckily, our guys aren't burdened by "reality." If Luka Modrić had been "realistic" and listened to all those self-proclaimed experts—including Arsène Wenger, who once wrote him off because he thought he was too fragile—he’d be staring at walls right now instead of playing as a key figure for Real Madrid. Look, there's no room for realism at the World Cup. There never has been, because anything can happen.

The "realistic" types just sit in their armchairs acting like coaches, sipping beer and snacking during halftime.

Yeah, it was great in Germany. We played brave and heroic, then celebrated that loss like it was a win, only to end up getting absolutely demolished later. Truly a brilliant recipe for success.
Brazil is playing at home. It's the first game, they're coming in as the number one favorites, and they're going to be flying across that field. Not to mention, winning the group is a total necessity for them if they want to avoid facing the Spaniards in the round of 16. Personally, I don't have any illusions about us pulling off anything other than a dignified defeat.
stormyharbor13 said:If your attitude is basically "who cares," you might as well stay home.

Let's not kid ourselves here. I honestly didn't think this was some massive showdown. The other two matches actually matter way more to us. Sure, it would be legendary to face Brazil in the opening match of the World Cup in Brazil, but let’s be real about where we stand.
placidrider48 said:Nick, why on earth are you even bringing up Mandžukić and Nikica Jelavić? Those guys are strictly aerial specialists. I honestly don't think we'll have any room to pull off the passing game the coach wants once we go up against Brazil.

Look, it’s not just about the Brazil game. We’re probably going to lose anyway, so we might as well start preparing for the other two matches right now.☕
