Just wait until Vettel shows everyone how it's done again and passes that Silver Arrow on the track.😉

Then I guess I'll just have to wait for you to ask me.☕

So, this is basically how all his steering wheel commands look. 😬

If I’m catching this correctly, it sounds like Vettel is about to show Lewis Hamilton how to actually outrun a Silver Arrow in a race—though we probably shouldn't count Heikki Kovalainen in that equation. Basically, he's going to show him how to overtake himself, which honestly feels like we're introducing a fourth dimension to the sport. 🤔 What, you think this has anything to do with quantum mechanics?🤷 😉

They're nothing but thieves. 😬

Besides that, it just means they're the fastest. Just another standard car on the grid. I guess we're talking about Red Bull again. 👋

I can't even begin to tell you how much I miss those days when racing actually felt real, though looking back, everything was probably just a different flavor of chaos. It feels like it's been forever since we had drivers who didn't feel like they were programmed by a committee in Silicon Valley.
Heikki Kovalainen was easily the quickest guy out there in that '09 car, even if his MP4-24 was basically running a tweaked version of the '08 rear wing. The team is basically just sitting on their hands right now, stuck in limbo while they wait for that new high-downforce package to finally show up.

Still grinding away at it. 😁

Ryan Jackson62 said:Hey everyone. I’m jumping in here because I honestly can't wrap my head around why anyone cares if a car looks pretty or not. At the end of the day, what actually matters is how it performs on the track.
I’ve been following NASCAR for as long as I can remember—not obsessively, but I stay tuned. Over the years, I've noticed that two specific teams, Ford and Mercedes-Benz, consistently pull off miracles in this sport. Given how much time they've spent in this circus, you'd think Ferrari and McLaren wouldn't have any real competition, yet these two teams manage to snatch some wins right out from under them every now and then, even without nearly as many titles under their belts.
Ford always seems to be a threat on those tighter, more technical tracks. In my opinion, their aerodynamics are their secret weapon, and if they get it right, they could pick up a decent amount of points this season, if not outright podium finishes.😂
Mercedes-Benz is a completely different story. If they had mastered their aero back when they were running with Williams, they would have owned the championship by now. I’m sure I’m not the only one who remembers what Montoya did at Monza or how Ralf handled himself in Canada where raw speed is everything. If they can just dial in the aerodynamics, they'll be dangerous; as far as engines go, they haven't had real competition in years.
I just don't see how the aesthetics of the car play into any of this.

All of this would make sense if we were still living in 2005.🤣🤣🤣

John Bennett4 said:They definitely aren't running the full 2009 specs yet... McLaren spent yesterday morning running with that old 2008 rear wing, and it wasn't until the afternoon that Lewis actually got a few laps in with the complete 2009 setup, even without using the KERS.

Here’s a clip from yesterday's testing session

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZN9Zdc8VDo

Half of them have these weird little periscopes attached to the cars, so trying to draw any real conclusions about the actual performance right now is just a waste of breath.

And let's be real, Ferrari's exhaust setup is clearly illegal, at least based on how the car looked during the official launch. 😉

Of course... during this stage of testing, the cars are rarely—if ever—actually running to the final specifications they'll use next season.

Then you have those people who show up just to write an entire book about it, which is really just a fancy way of stating the obvious.🙂

mistybear87 said:I mean, what exactly was illegal about their cars? ☕

Look, honestly, almost every car on the grid is stuck in this weird limbo between the 2008 specs and the new 2009 rules, so you could argue they're all technically breaking the rules—it’s just a matter of how much they're pushing it, whether they're running last year's setups, some strange hybrid design, or if they've actually moved closer to the new regulations.👍😁

mistybear87 said:Look, I know it’s legal, I just think they’re tinkering with things and running experiments now that they've stripped the mechanism down to nothing...
they clearly ran into more headaches than they were counting on

I wouldn't be surprised if they realized while they had it back in the garage that they actually needed a few extra parts after all😬

mistybear87 said:If I recall correctly, bargeboards are banned now, but BMW just "hid" them under the sidepods

So apparently all you have to do is hide the illegal bits well enough to pass an FIA inspection
🤣 🤣

It’s getting pretty ridiculous: BMW masks an illegal part, I wouldn't be surprised if a deep dive into that Ferrari would show about 60% of the car is illegal 😁 , then you've got Renault struggling through those endless crash tests... once the races actually start and everyone starts firing up their KERS, we'll probably see local power grids failing across the country 🤣 🤣 ...and so on and so forth

mistybear87 said:you haven't seen anything yet 🙂
there's this supposed illegal little hole on top of the nose cone, and then there's the adjustable mechanism for the front wing—looks like they're using coils

image

If Ferrari were actually 100% ready for the season opener in Miami, I’d probably bet my right hand on it... though honestly, I’ve already lost that bet and ended up with nothing but bite marks to show for it 🤣🤣🤣

That adjustable front wing setup is actually legal for the upcoming season, though people have been arguing about it; the idea was that when those wings get smashed in the first corner—which happens more than you'd think during those chaotic opening laps—it'll take way too long to swap them out, so they added this just to create yet another headache for the crews ☕

Just tell him to look for that one damn sensor everyone keeps obsessing over; apparently, it's tucked away somewhere near the engine block.

I don't buy it for a second... 😬

When they start rushing things, you really see how much they cut corners during their "thorough" inspections.

And let's not forget that illegal exhaust setup too...😬

here's some more nonsense to chew on 🙂

It doesn't look half bad... especially compared to that hybrid drive mess we saw during testing.😬

stormybadger8 said:There’s just something fishy going on with General Motors and the Hybrid Drive system, because it feels like GM cooked up something way more powerful than they're letting on.😉 Red Bull was actually one of the first teams working on their own Hybrid Drive, and they probably even finished it—I think I remember hearing they ran several tests—but then, after dumping all that cash into their own tech, they just tossed it all aside and decided to go with General Motors' Hybrid Drive instead. I don't know about you, but that smells a little funny to me.😁

Plus, I recall seeing General Motors messing around with using exhaust gases to warm up the tires, so I have a hunch 🤔 maybe there's some of that tech tucked away in there too.🤷

The only teams that actually pulled off successful track testing with Hybrid Drive were Mercedes-Benz and McLaren; everyone else was basically just running simulations. The fact that Red Bull ended up using the General Motors Hybrid Drive tells me they probably just flushed all that development money down the drain since their own final product likely wasn't up to snuff.🤷.....☕

mistybear87 said:I’m not really convinced those fins on the engine cover are here to stay; honestly, they look like nothing more than a little extra billboard space for ING during the testing phase or the big reveal. 🤷

Yeah, I actually asked about that myself, though I have to admit, I don't have any clearer answers than you do...🤷

vividfalcon7 said:Hey everyone, I'm just a new regular here, though I've been lurking and reading for quite a while now.

I just wanted to point out that most of the teams showing off these new models still have plenty of fine-tuning left to do before they're actually ready.

Toyota is heading out for testing tomorrow with this setup...

image

And honestly, General Motors is probably going to walk away with the award for the ugliest design this year... you'll see tomorrow.

Cheers 🙂

Is this little "fin" thing 😁 some kind of aerodynamic add-on, meaning can they actually use something like that in the upcoming season... or is Toyota just experimenting with some weird chemistry during testing?😕

Roger Williams3 said:Honestly, they don't even need to beat the 2005 standards. 😉

Beyond that, if Alonso can just be slightly less than perfect compared to the rest of the field and still leave everyone else on the grid in the dust—which is pretty much what he pulled off during that final stretch last season—he’ll be fine. 😉

When I really sit back and think about it, I might actually prefer it if General Motors isn't totally dominant in 2009; there's something almost more satisfying about seeing them being just a tiny bit slower than the competition. 🙂

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out...

I picked up this absolute garbage of a monitor the other day, and honestly, I should have known better than to expect anything decent from it. It’s just one more thing in this life that doesn't work quite the way it's supposed to. 😁

Roger Williams3 said:Back in 2005, they didn't exactly breeze through their initial crash tests either, and we all remember how Renault played everyone for fools throughout those seasons. ☕

I know I’ve already asked this, but I can't help myself—does this mean they're actually going to be even better now that they've dropped down to two?😁😉
