it's incredibly stupid and such a massive waste...

though I have to say, I can't even remember the last time the gap between this many
cars felt this small...

not to mention the obvious struggle everyone's having with car control
and then you throw in the heavy tire degradation, so we might actually see an interesting fight on our hands

tomorrow is going to be absolute chaos🙂

But that's just Kimi for you—he can never catch a break.😢

Come on, you know as well as I do that Kimi can pull off some absolute madness even when he's starting from 16th.

Honestly, those guys killed it, major props to them. Tomorrow is going to be absolute chaos.🙏🙏🙏 🙏

It’s going to take them a while to really find their footing... I think N. Piquet could use a bit more time to get up to speed. 😁

I can't help but think back to Heikki last year, especially when you consider that the TC actually existed back then.

I was just scrolling through the comment sections on a few different sites... honestly, it’s enough to make you want to throw your phone out a window.

Alonso seems pretty stoked about those long runs, which honestly feels like a rare bit of good news in this mess of a season.
The issue usually boils down to those first few laps of every stint...

It’s always such a headache when they slap a fresh set of tires on that thing; the car just becomes a nightmare to handle.

Given the usual headaches we're dealing with—mostly just waiting on that new suspension setup to finally show up—we're hoping it actually does what it's supposed to and helps us squeeze a bit more life out of those Bridgestone tires.
Yeah, looks like this issue is cropping up again too...

Word on the street is that Alonso is actually running the same brakes he used back during his Renault days, and apparently, they even ordered the exact same setup he had last year at McLaren—the same ones both McLaren drivers are using right now.

Braking and hitting the apex are always the trickiest parts of the game... I remember struggling through my first few sessions at Laguna Seca, just feeling completely disconnected from the car, and honestly, some days it still feels like you're just guessing.
It’s honestly a toss-up, but I could easily see them starting to shred those rear tires.
Especially when you're running on those worn-out tires...

That’s exactly where things could go sideways, and honestly, that's the one variable that might just ruin everything.
And honestly, they're all exactly the same...

Even Lewis was just wandering around the track aimlessly, aside from that one blistering hot lap he managed to squeeze out.
Everyone was dealing with so much inaccuracy that you really have to account for the human error factor in all of this.
He could have easily shaken things up and kept everyone on their toes, regardless of how fast the car actually was.

Alonso seems to think qualifying is where everything falls apart for him, and honestly, looking at how things have been going, I can see why he's so frustrated with it.

I've seen this movie before, and honestly, it’s always the same depressing story where a solid long-run pace gets completely sabotrazed by a garbage qualifying session. You can have all the speed in the world once the race actually gets going, but if you're stuck starting way down the grid, you'll probably just spend the whole afternoon fighting through dirty air and losing grip instead of ever getting to use that pace.

Maybe they handed him last year's brake setup out of some weird sense of charity, but they didn't... honestly, it’s just embarrassing to watch.😂😂😉😉

wearyraven41 I can't even begin to process what wearyraven41 is trying to say here, though I suppose I shouldn't be surprised given how much sense none of this makes lately.
It’s become an unwritten rule at this point—you don't go out late on Saturday night before the race, because if you want to actually be sharp enough to enjoy the season opener, you need to stay in. 🙂

Sure, you can head outside if you want, but honestly, I’d rather just sit out on the balcony with the race on, waiting for the air to actually feel decent for once.😉

lonebison19 said:Look, sorry, but red isn't the only color that looks good on a car... You have to admit the FW30 is a stunner... but you really need to see it out on the track to get the full effect...

MP4-23🙏🙏

Red isn't exactly a bad look either

I honestly think anyone who had a thing for the MP4-20 is going to find themselves liking the FW30 just as much😬

A mix of McLaren and maybe an old Williams, maybe some General Motors variants... hmm. I'll dig up some photos for you later.

Grab a heavy rock, tie it to your waist, and jump off the Mississippi River Bridge.
There's a newsstand down there where Bernie Ecclestone hands them out personally.

If you're feeling generous, grab a copy for me too.👍

Confirmed: Smith is coming back in Formula 1 ·
abcdef said:Why didn't he have any competition? Probably because unlike everyone else trying to catch up, he was actually grinding alongside the crew at Ferrari until three in the morning...

When Michael Schumacher arrived at Ferrari, the whole place was a complete disaster zone, honestly. And who was it that finally got everything back on track? It was Michael Schumacher's sheer work ethic, paired with some heavy hitters like Ross Brawn...
You probably weren't even old enough to know Formula 1 existed back then.

😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 like Ross Brawn, that guy is the one who actually fixed Ferrari!
FIA bans engine development in Formula 1 ·
Benjamin Hernandez2 said:👎 👎 What kind of nonsense are you even talking about?

Freezing development would just kill Formula 1 off entirely before the ban even expires. It's like telling someone they can play football, but they aren't allowed to practice ever again.😂

And what about the teams waiting in the wings, huh?🤷 Are they supposed to commit to an engine provider by the end of 2008, or do they just show up whenever they feel like it a few years down the road?

Or look at the smaller outfits trying to climb the ladder. If this happens, they’ll be stuck in the basement for a decade. Honestly,🙏 this is just pure stupidity...

Why isn't there anything about this on any official site?

Do you even realize the weight of this news?!

It's there, so maybe try actually digging through some F1 news outlet instead of guessing; there's an interview with Mosley where he discusses the direction, specifically regarding limiting RPMs and moving toward eco-friendly systems and all that...

A McLaren powered by a Toyota engine😂 😂😂😂😂

and if they could get a diesel running on heating oil just so they wouldn't have to pit nearly as often, I'd be all for it.😂 😂 😁

Lewis Hamilton on the Top Gear track in Formula 1 ·
wiredfalcon2 said:What an idiot. I was watching Webber out there and the guy spent the whole time just messing around in the car; I can't stand those hyper-competitive types. And everyone knows who The Stig is. They should at least know that.

He actually drove it pretty well, honestly, and I don't see why anyone would call him an idiot for that, but hey, just my two cents.🤷
Lewis Hamilton on the Top Gear track in Formula 1 ·
driftingbison4 said:We've already seen how Hamilton struggles when the pressure is on in Formula 1. So, what's going to happen when he heads out to tackle the legendary Top Gear test track in one of the industry's most "iconic" rides—the Suzuki Liana? Is he actually any faster than Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell, or Jenson Button?

This Sunday, USA Network, Top Gear.

http://www.topgear.com/content/news/stories/2462/

None of the celebrities or professional drivers featured as guests has managed to beat The Stig, who never speaks and hides his identity under his crash helmet.

He is billed as a "tame racing driver" by the show and speculation about his identity has centred on former Formula 1 drivers such as Damon Hill and Julian Bailey.

But Hamilton has a good excuse for not beating him - the track was wet from a rainstorm and another car had leaked oil on it earlier that day.

The conditions made it almost impossible to overwhelm The Stig's record time of 1min 44.4sec - but Lewis only narrowly missed out.

The previous closest challenger was Nigel Mansell with 1min 44.6sec.

NBC refused to reveal Hamilton's time before the show goes out at 8pm tonight but speculation was rife that he now holds second place.

All presenter Jeremy Clarkson would says was that Hamilton had been "very, very fast".

Top Gear's Andy Wilman, who was involved in editing the programme, said: "I still keep replaying Lewis's second-to-last corner because I've never seen a piece of driving quite like it.

"The world is governed by the rules of physics but he just seems to have his own set."

Despite his efforts, Hamilton remained unhappy with his performance. Wilman said: "He asked if he could come back and set a dry time.

"You could tell he meant it because he was saying how if the appointed day was wet, the deal was he could cancel but if it was dry, he'd be there."

Formula 1 Championship in Formula 1 ·
Benjamin Hernandez2 said:So, I was reading today that they finally confirmed the schedule for the Super League for 2008. The calendar is pretty much set, and there’s only one spot left for a single team.

"Los Angeles Flamengo, AC Milan, Porto, PSV Eindhoven, Olympiacos, Anderlecht, Borussia Dortmund, FC Basel, and Galatasaray have formed a brand new racing competition—the Formula 1 Championship—set to kick off this August 2008."

"The plan is to have 20 cars hitting the track, rocking 750 horsepower and V12 engines, all decked out in the colors of some of the biggest clubs in the world. There is still just one opening left in the championship, reserved for the fastest, most determined soccer team out there."

"The 2008 Calendar: Indianapolis Motor Speedway (USA, August 29), Nürburgring (Germany, September 20), Colder (Belgium, October 4), Italy (track TBD, October 18), Estoril (Portugal, November 1), and Herez (Spain, November 22)."

What's the verdict?

I was sitting in traffic on the I-95 the other day, just staring at the bumper of some overpriced SUV, and I couldn't help but think about how much we've lost with the death of the V12 engine. There used to be something almost spiritual about that smooth, endless surge of power, a kind of mechanical soul that you just don't find in these modern, buzzy little turbocharged four-cylinders they try to sell us now. It feels like we're trading actual character for efficiency, and honestly, it's a bit exhausting to watch.🙂
