coastalharbor6 said:So, I mailed some earrings to a girl via mail; the package was traveling through San Francisco (from one end to the other, doesn't really matter why right now), and I sent it registered with COD, so she was supposed to pay $37. Well, the package showed up this morning totally trashed—the earrings are completely pulverized, shattered, and the little glass pieces are all messed up. They aren't just unusable; I can't even salvage the materials! What am I actually supposed to do here? And is there even anything I can 😢
they charged her 120 instead of $37

They charged her $3.25 because apparently there's this so-called "return shipping fee," basically you're paying for the service of transferring the money from the recipient back to the sender... and honestly, fragile shipments like yours should be extra insured by marking them as "fragile"
Olivia Green46 said:Well, why didn't she just ask about the shipping costs then? Like you said, they have a price list online, maybe you just can't make sense of it.

I'm honestly just hoping it's cheaper over there than it is here. In the States, it feels like sending anything to Canada or Mexico isn't even worth the hassle... the shipping rates are just ridiculous.

Why do you think it's so expensive? I just sent something via certified mail to Canada yesterday and it was only like $15...
Olivia Green46 said:Look, you’re gonna have to handle that part yourself; they aren't exactly going to jump up and pack your stuff, tape the box, or write out the address for you. 😁

I mean, I guess if you play your cards right and ask nicely, maybe they'll help you out, but don't count on it.😍😁
It’s totally possible they sent the package to be picked up at the local Post Office instead of delivering it straight to the address, just because that's the cheaper shipping option.
I mean, you should probably just give the main USPS hub a call and see if it's sitting there waiting for you!
Roger Myers11 said:I just got my package today, and I had to pay COD. The label clearly said "Recipient pays: $18," but the mailman ended up charging me $73... I didn't get any sort of invoice or anything, so I'm wondering if there's some hidden fee they just tack on at the last second or what?

I mean, that’s basically just "return shipping" fees. You're essentially paying for the service of moving the money from you to the recipient... honestly, most people who send stuff out usually mention this upfront, but whatever...☕
Arthur Robinson59 said:Hey everyone,

I’d really appreciate it if someone could give me a straight answer on this. 🙂
I’m living in Washington, D.C., renting an apartment. I’m not officially registered at this address. I was just wondering if I can still receive mail addressed to me here? Like, when I order stuff from eBay and things like that. I don't mean official bills or trying to register the place as my legal residence or anything like that. Thanks!!

You're totally fine to do that,🙂
just make sure you clearly write your last name on the mailbox (and maybe the doorbell too, just in case there are any certified packages) so the mail carrier actually knows who the package belongs to. Or, honestly, your other option is to just format the address like this:

Pero Perić c/o Marić
Look, you can just list whatever address you want as the sender, and the money will hit you at that location regardless!

Donna Castillo14 said:Can someone please tell me how many days it usually takes from when you send a priority package until it actually hits the recipient's hands? On Monday, October 15th, before 8 AM, I went down to the post office in San Francisco and sent off a package. I paid $6.75, sent it via certified and priority mail to a small town in Ohio. The girl at the counter promised me they'd be there by the next day because I know according to the USPS website, priority should arrive within one business day.
But the buyer messaged me yesterday, Oct 17th, saying nothing has arrived. I went back to the post office this morning, showed my receipt, and the clerk checked the system—she said the package was received by the local office in that small town in Ohio, but hasn't been picked up or delivered to the customer yet. She said it would probably show up today. Well, it’s later in the day and still nothing.

I am seriously freaking out here. I have all my receipts and proof, but what am I supposed to do if this thing never actually gets delivered? How can it be lagging this much? Tomorrow is already Friday, and I sent this as early as 7:45 AM on Monday via priority... I'm so incredibly pissed off right now!! What's my next move if she doesn't get her package soon?

From what I've seen happen before, it's totally possible the girl just got a notification and hasn't bothered to go grab it... though other things could be going on too. Maybe the buyer should just try calling the local post office in that small town in Ohio and ask if there's something waiting for her...
Michael Fisher6 said:Hey everyone,

I've got a few Ice Watches I'm looking to move, but I ran into some drama. I sent one to this lady out in rural California, and as soon as she got it, she called me up claiming she’s some official distributor and threatening to sue me for selling fakes. Since I still have a couple left, I was thinking about shipping them via package with COD, but without actually putting my full legal name on everything. Basically, I want to just show up at the post office, grab the cash, and be done with it. Does anyone actually know how to pull that off?

Thanks!

That service is called "Poste Restante," so you should probably ask about that when you hit up the USPS.😉
amberotter88 said:URGENT QUESTION.!

If I'm shipping some stuff through USPS for $8.80, do they have bigger envelopes or little boxes included in that price, or do I have to buy them separately? Or am I just supposed to wrap everything up at home? The items aren't exactly heavy, but I'm worried they might not fit in a standard envelope.

You can just grab envelopes or boxes right there at the post office.🙂
restlessfalcon25 said:Is there any way to actually figure out which days the mail carrier comes? I haven't noticed any kind of pattern at all. Sometimes they show up two days in a row, but then they'll just vanish for three or four days straight. Is there even a set schedule or something?

Usually, it’s pretty much every day, though there are exceptions. Like, if you have those broader delivery routes where the carrier might hit one suburb one day and a different one the next, so yeah, it's mostly constant...
but how can you really say the mail hasn't come for four days? Just because you didn't see them pull up?
velvetwalker23 said:it’s not just an issue with Amazon, it’s like this happens with pretty much any package I get. It makes zero sense that they all show up at the exact same time. Like, if I order something from within the States, it shouldn't take weeks or months to arrive, yet here I am with a bunch of them all landing on my doorstep at once even though I ordered them separately.
yeah, I'll just go ahead and ask him and call it a day.

p.s.
seriously though, I can't fit all these packages into my bag.😁

😂😂😂

just ask him.🤷😁
velvetwalker23 said:Ugh, look... I get how this works, I'm not THAT clueless 😁
but everything I've ever bought was shipped from China, often from the exact same seller, and sometimes I even place all my orders on the same day... so if, say, I ordered 50 items, how is it even possible that every single one of those 50 arrives individually? (The mailman only comes by twice a week, and every single time he shows up, there's just one lonely package waiting) and this keeps happening because I'm constantly ordering stuff... it's been going on for weeks
forget about Amazon for a second, I've ordered from domestic sites too and it's the same old story... there were plenty of packages, but never—and I mean never—did two of them arrive on the same day 😳 plus, I literally have nowhere to put them all, I'm not even joking
fine, whatever, I'll just head down to the USPS and pick them all up at once

And I'm buying from the same damn seller, so things just keep dragging oooooooooonnnnnnn
Man, he'd bring them all to you in one go if he actually had anything to deliver😉
Just ask him🙂
And if you're gonna head to the USPS, try to get there around 7:30 in the morning before the carrier finishes his route, then you can just ask him if there's anything sitting there for you🤣
velvetwalker23 said:it's because they were all ordered at once, and there's just no way they'd show up one by one over several weeks like that—I mean, it's never happened where, say, two arrive at once; it’s always just two every single week, exactly as many times as he shows up, so it feels way too coincidental to me. Plus, his bag is tiny, so he couldn't even fit them all, haha 😁

Look, even if I am wrong (and I'm pretty sure I'm not 😛), let's say he really is carrying them in one by one... can I just walk into the USPS and pick everything up all at once, or is there some extra fee or whatever for that?

Welcome to the world of Amazon🤣🤣
That's just how it works. Some packages from China go through Russia (which is the slowest route), others go through London or Paris... it's totally normal. I'll order a massive pile of stuff in a single day, and then it arrives bit by bit just like yours does. It has nothing to do with the mail carrier, the size of his bag, or any of that nonsense 🤣

And besides, what would you even pick up at the post office if there's nothing waiting for you?🤷
If there actually was something, the mailman would have already brought it to your door, since that's how we usually do things here.😛
velvetwalker23 said:I get that, but the thing is, he only brings them over one at a time because he can't fit all those packages in his bag at once 😁 so I was just wondering if I could simply head down to the USPS and have them hand over everything that's arrived in one go?

Wait, how on earth are you even sure that's why he's bringing them one by one?!!🙂
It’s not just about how fast the mail carrier moves,🙂 we're talking about Customs, trade tensions with China, and a million other variables that dictate whether our packages actually show up on time or get stuck in limbo forever...
restlessseal7 said:Look, I get how shipping costs work for the sender, but isn't it actually more expensive when the buyer covers the postage at the time of pickup?

If you're talking about paying for the package right when you pick it up, then yeah, you're looking at $16.90 plus $3.00 shipping and all that extra stuff combined
restlessseal7 said:I was wondering if a certified package sent out on a Friday actually shows up over the weekend, or if I'm just waiting until Monday? Also, can someone tell me how much shipping would cost for a certified package sent directly to my address? Like, what am I actually paying for when I hit that option? 🙂

Nothing before Monday, man. Certified shipping is about $9.50 for anything up to 50 grams.
restlessseal7 said:Thanks for the quick reply! I did exactly what you suggested and everything is totally sorted out now. 🙂
Lesson learned for next time: just ship your own packages yourself, no matter how slammed you are with work. 😁
