I mean, I'm just wondering if the IRS is going to come knocking on my door asking me to explain where that $5,000 suddenly came from...

The IRS isn't going to bother you.😉
brightangler18 said:Hey guys, I’ve got a bit of a situation. I just got word that a package arrived from the UK—basically, I got one of those notifications this morning saying I need to pay $53 and stuff. The thing is, I'm having surgery tomorrow and I'm going to be stuck in bed for at least ten days, so there's no way I can make it down to the post office. Since my family doesn't live in the same city, I was wondering if I could just send my boyfriend over with my ID? The notice mentions something about legal representatives and proxies, so I’m honestly a little confused about how this works.

Yeah, you should be fine. As long as he explains the situation when he gets there, it shouldn't be an issue.🙂
Douglas Hughes3 said:What’s even the point of handing over my Social Security number now? What happens if someone messes up and puts in the wrong info?

It's just for identification purposes, I guess. I don't really see why you're making such a big deal out of providing some basic info. At the end of the day, the money is still yours, and you have to show your ID at the bank anyway...
So, here’s the latest headache: apparently, we've been hit with a new directive where we now have to ask for a Social Security number or some kind of taxpayer ID just to process any payouts.
Drew Castillo76 said:If I drop a letter in the mail tomorrow, do you think it’ll actually hit its destination by Thursday?

I mean, if you get it out there in the morning, it should probably show up by Wednesday...
Nancy Robinson66 said:Does anyone actually know what qualifies as an oversized package? I'm trying to ship this box, but I have no clue at what point it hits that "oversized" threshold.
Zachary Peterson6?

I'm pretty sure it's when the total dimensions—you know, length plus width plus height combined—go over about 78 inches...
jadecanyon7 said:Hey everyone. I’m planning on sending a certified letter, and I was actually thinking about putting some cash inside something—not just a plain envelope, obviously... so I’m wondering, can a postal worker just open my mail without me specifically asking them to? And if they do, am I going to run into any legal trouble because of it?

Thanks.

Look, you absolutely CANNOT send cash in regular mail!!! If you're trying to move money through the mail, you should probably look into sending it as a registered valuable document instead.
Sean Kelly10 said:thanks, so I guess something like an old shoebox would work?

Yeah, totally😉
Sean Kelly10 said:I’m trying to figure out how to ship a small package, maybe around a pound or so. I want to do cash on delivery, and the item is worth $17. So, when I list the value, should I just put $17, assuming the buyer covers the shipping? Or should I list it as 50 plus shipping since that's what we actually agreed on?
Also, what's the deal with boxes? Are there any specific rules I need to follow? I tried searching the forum for answers, but the search tool is being pretty useless right now.

You should list it as 50 + shipping.😉

There aren't really any strict rules about the boxes themselves, just make sure you pack everything up securely.
Robin Gray72 said:Hey, I was wondering—if I send something via certified mail, am I basically just banking on the honor system here? Like, does it all just come down to whether I trust the other person to actually pay up once they get the goods, or does USPS offer some kind of guarantee or insurance for this sort of thing?

Also, if I go the COD route, is the shipping going to run me more than just sending it certified?

That’s pretty much it. If you're just doing certified mail, the standard practice is usually that the buyer transfers the cash to the seller's account first. For small stuff under 50 grams, the cost for a certified letter is about $3.25, but if you're shipping through a major carrier like FedEx, it'll be around 16.90+ (and on top of that, the recipient has to cover an extra $3.00)
cosmiclynx12 said:The package was delivered on Thursday, but I haven't seen the funds hit my account yet. Since it's already the weekend, I guess they'll probably show up on Monday? 🤔

That's how it goes☕
cosmiclynx12 said:Just one more thing, I finished everything on my end and the recipient already got their package.
Will the mailman bring the cash straight to my door, or am I gonna have to go pick it up at the Post Office?
I got that yellow and black receipt confirming everything was delivered..

The mail carrier should bring you the money if you're home, usually takes about 2-3 days...
So, I guess what I’m getting at is $6.75, when you're filling out the shipping info, you just list the actual sender and receiver like any normal person would, but then on the money order, you basically list the recipient as the one sending the funds...
cosmiclynx12 said:So, here's the deal—I could really use a little bit of help here because this is actually my first time ever sending a package through the mail.
So, here’s the deal: I’ve got this book all packed up in a big yellow envelope, and we agreed that the recipient is going to cover the FedEx shipping costs.
So, now I'm sitting here wondering... what am I even supposed to say in this post? I guess I'm just looking for some direction, maybe.
So, just to be clear here—are we talking about a shipment that requires COD (cash on delivery), where the recipient is basically footing the bill for every single charge upfront upon arrival?
So, I was looking at the price for that book, and honestly? It's a bit much. I mean, I guess it depends on how much you value it, but man, that tag is definitely a little steep for what it actually is. Maybe I'm just being picky, but it feels like they're trying to squeeze every last cent out of us. $17So, if that's how it works, what am I actually supposed to pay at the FedEx office? Since the recipient is covering the shipping costs, I'm guessing I'll have to fill out some paperwork once I get there. I'm just wondering what specific amount I should put down on the forms... maybe something like 50 bucks plus tax? I don't want to mess this up and cause a headache. $6.75 Shipping fees? Seriously? Is anyone else seeing these ridiculous rates lately? I feel like every time I try to order something online, the delivery cost alone is enough to make me want to throw my laptop out the window. It’s getting out of hand. 🤷

So you end up paying the shipping upfront, only to get hit with some ridiculous $70 COD charge later—like, where did that extra fifty plus twenty even come from? I guess it’s just one of those things, isn't it?
Karen Carter80 said:I'm trying to send some extra food to a family—it's about two boxes weighing roughly 10lbs each. What's the cheapest way to ship this? Maybe from Miami to New York City? Thanks!

Just ship it as a package through FedEx, I guess.$8.25
Susan Anderson77 said:Ugh, if I end up having to pay double shipping now... man, that's not cheap. I mean, either way, there shouldn't be a way to lose it, right? Or what if the person gets it and just refuses to pay?

Look, you never know what kind of people you're dealing with out there... though I doubt they'll actually charge you double, but you'll definitely be paying something. As for it getting lost, I don't think so. And as for them receiving it without paying, that shouldn't happen if you sent it as COD (Cash on Delivery)...
redcobra4 said:I've got a quick question about shipping stuff.

So, I just picked up an Xbox, and now the guy needs to ship the console along with all its gear via the mail. I'm currently trying to figure out which service is actually going to be the most budget-friendly.

Since it’s not exactly a tiny little box, I’m wondering who among the big carriers is the cheapest right now. Also, does anyone have any idea roughly how much it would cost to ship something from the Midwest over to New York City?

Thanks in advance for the help 🙂

USPS!
If he drops it off tomorrow by 3:00 PM, you'll probably have it the day after tomorrow!!
Susan Anderson77 said:I sent off a phone via FedEx back on January 29th, valued at $387.
The person I sent it to has completely ghosted me, and honestly, I have no clue how long it actually takes for the money to hit my account or what the whole process even looks like. The folks at the shipping center told me it would show up within 24 hours, but that was ages ago, and I’m still broke. What am I supposed to do now?

Look, there's a pretty high chance that person just never picked it up in the first place (which means that package is probably just sitting there for like five days waiting for them to grab it—maybe they'll eventually...). The fact that they aren't responding and you haven't seen a dime suggests that. It happens, people change their minds... but obviously, you're the one getting screwed here. In any case, if I were you, I'd just give FedEx a call and ask if the shipment was actually delivered or what.
nimblemarlin26 said:Hey, quick question if anyone knows the deal—is a clerk at the Post Office actually allowed to demand that you open up a package you're sending overseas just to inspect what's inside? Has this ever happened to anyone else here?

Look, that’s just standard procedure whenever you're shipping a package out of the country.
Noah Thompson said:and how much are they actually charging for it? Is it just the same as the shipping fee or maybe even less, lol

hmmm I'm guessing it's probably the same amount...
