It’s nothing special, but man, you guys are really overdoing it with the hate job🙄 🙄

On the flip side, I actually love the parts where aliens snatch people up—especially when Alfre Woodard just cruises off into space by herself😂
Douglas Phillips4 said:As for extracting subtitles—I used to do that back in the day for DivX, but I don't see myself doing that for DVDs anytime soon. 👎

I wasn't talking about converting them to text—I meant extracting the streams exactly as they are (like what DVDLab saves as a .sp1).

For example, if you open a VOB file with the TMPG Demultiplexer, you'll see that besides the MPEG and AC3 streams, there are other streams present. One of those is the subtitle stream, I just don't know which format I should save them in.
Eh, I’m guessing you’d need to use IfoEdit for that—but I haven't really messed around with it much because every time I try, I end up screwing it up too.🙂

Basically, when you're working with subtitles in DVDLab, it saves them as .sp1, .sp2, and similar extensions. In my head, the logic should be pretty simple: just extract the subtitles from the DVD stream in their original format (whatever that may be), use DVDLab to create a DVD with a dummy subtitle (just one line of text is enough to trigger the subtitle stream), and then swap the subtitles out using IfoEdit.

Anyway, there's a tutorial on the drive about how to swap subtitles on a DVD, so go poke around there.

Douglas Phillips4 said:I ran into a similar issue with my discs. But specifically with the kvark ones—after about two or three months, no drive would pick them up. My LiteOn, however, still works wonders with them...

Honestly, those kvark CDs are total garbage—about as reliable as a broken mirror.👎

I don't know, I'm sticking with TDK, Traxdata, and Verbatim.
Douglas Phillips4 said:The price on these media discs actually surprised me—it's a pretty solid deal. The TDK 8x spindles are under $1.25, and the 16x ones in the case are about $2.00 plus a few extra cents 🙂.

Honestly, these TDK discs are the gold standard. Stick with them.👍

Honestly, skip DVD Shrink and just use Nero Recode—the quality is identical, but Recode is definitely faster.

👋 👍 🙂
Douglas Phillips4 said:What are your thoughts on Sony Vegas 5 and Sony DVD Architect 2.0?

Vegas is an awesome program—honestly, I recommend it to everyone I meet—but when it comes down to actual authoring, I still stick with DVDLab Pro.
Gerald Rivera60 said:If you're looking for slightly more robust authoring, people usually point you toward DVD Maestro.

As far as I know, they haven't released a new version of DVD Maestro in quite a while—it's been ages—but DVDLab basically took over its philosophy and interface.👍
If you want to make a decent DVD backup, here’s how you actually do it:

First, rip the disc using DVD Decrypter.

Then, grab DVDRemake Pro to strip out all the junk—you know, those useless menus—and fix the links so the movie starts right away instead of forcing you through ads and other crap. Once you've cleaned everything up, you'll have a DVD where you can just compress the specific menus you actually want along with the movie itself. You see, DVD Shrink really only gives you the Re-author option—either it just burns the movie to the disc, or if you try to keep the menus, it keeps everything. That means you often end up wasting half a gig compressing useless motion menus on high-quality discs.

After that, use DVD Rebuilder to handle the compression; it's easily the most powerful tool for shrinking a DVD. It even lets you downscale features to HalfD1 resolution, which frees up even more space for the actual film.

In the end, you get a movie with all your preferred menus and languages, and it looks perfect. Trust me, spending a few hours learning these two programs will definitely pay off in the long run.👍

And lastly, for the authoring part, just go with DVDLab Pro—you can't go wrong there.👍

p.s. I know it might seem like DVD Shrink is the better way to go right now, but when the compression fails on a disc because you tried to squeeze out 45% too much, you won't be feeling so optimistic.

Felix the Cat is a classic.👍

Jaws.

Just looking for something to watch on Sunday afternoon—nothing too intense. Honestly, when I saw in one of those supplements that a director couple was trying to pull a Dogme 95 stunt, it just ticked me off.🙂 Lars von Trier is garbage.🙂

Ethan Perez97 said:Look, the guy needs to get paid too... and honestly, when you look at the Spider-Man movies, they aren't actually that bad—other directors would have totally botched them. Just remember how Schumacher messed up Batman.

khmmm I actually like Schumacher's work... haven't seen Batman, but generally, I think Schumacher is alright.

For me, Spider-Man is a letdown mostly because of Raimi—if it were some B-list director, the movie might have been a pleasant surprise, but since it's him, it feels like his worst stuff. 👎

OT : Khmm, your location reminds me of something—were you maybe hanging around USC around '98 or '99 for film directing auditions?

Honestly, after that whole mess with Spider-Man, I’m having a hard time trusting his work for a while.🙂

placidotter15 said:If we followed that logic, the global music market would be tiny—if you ask me. Who’d bother listening to Americans or Germans if they were constantly dwelling on all the garbage other nations have done in the past? I mean, nobody's out here spinning Al Capone tracks. And even if they were, that's their business; it’s pretty stupid to try and drag war into it. If I only listened to people whose worldview matched mine, my CD player would be empty. Just listen to the music for what it is, rather than treating everything like a political statement.

But an artist's actions matter too, don't they? Like, if some guy sings about peace and love but turns out to be a killer in real life, that’s a bit of a problem, isn't it?🙄

Look, she was married to Al Capone. For me, that's where the conversation ends. These people caused way too much damage for anyone to just "forget" it. No fucking way, man.🙂

Besides, at the end of the day, we're talking about country singers.🙄 🙄 🙄 You were basically standing up for The Rolling Stones there, weren't you?🙂

The article is nonsense and the movie is a total joke.👎

Anyway, out of all the bad directors out there, you really had to pick Gibson?🙄 Gibson Passion is actually great.🙂
