Ugh, I’ve heard that too, and we actually gave it a shot. Unfortunately, it didn't help at all for us. Every single glass of Coca-Cola just made her feel like throwing up immediately. You know how it is—when someone is sick, you're willing to try anything, so my poor mom even tried drinking Cola, even though she never liked it to begin with. Maybe it works for some people, but for her... it just wasn't it.
Honestly, any time cancer enters the picture, things just feel heavy... it's never easy to hear. I’m really hoping you have a big, supportive family behind you—something to help carry the weight of dealing with two diagnoses at once. Also, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not as bad as it seems—that the surgeries go smoothly and there isn't any spread... just sending all the good vibes your way.
It's tough. First, you’ve gotta accept the reality that nothing you do—nothing you try to do to shield yourself—is going to make that heavy feeling go away.
Cancer is one of those things where you really can't fight it alone; you need your people. Just remember, at any given moment, the person actually fighting this is going through way more than you are. The surgeries, the chemo, the radiation, the endless hospital stays... it’s going to drain you, and you’ll feel like you're "just" standing on the sidelines watching. I don't know how big your family is or if you'll have enough hands on deck to pull together, but when my mom got sick, it was just the two of us... no other family around, so everything fell squarely on my shoulders. And look, you *can* handle it. You can handle anything. You just have to learn how to ask for help. People actually want to step up if you ask, and honestly, even a little bit of help goes a long way for you...
Talk to them. A lot. Figure out what they actually want and what you can realistically do to make their life easier. Just be there 100%... never let them doubt that you're in their corner.
I have so much more advice to give, but I really hope everything turns out okay—that you guys beat this "common enemy." Keep us posted on how things are going...

I have zero clue, but I do know that whenever I'm dealing with diarrhea—for those who prefer the "polite" term, you know—it works for me. Every time it happens, and I'm spending way too much time stuck in the bathroom, I just knock back half a liter and it stops pretty fast. But yeah, I have no idea why that is either...
nimbledriver81 said:Good grief, where on earth do you people come from? How can someone claim something is practically zero calories while being fat? Is there a farm involved? Some kind of bulls? Or just better chemicals?
I finally realized—well, I think... it felt like they were just trying to call me a fat cow... that's the only thing that (kind of) makes sense! Honestly, if this sub actually had decent moderators, maybe I’d at least get a little reprimand for that...
I honestly feel like you, driftinggull13, and VF have already pointed out the flaws in your logic several times now—so I really don't get why you're digging your heels in... it's just confusing.
It seems like maybe you're the only one who actually gets why sticking to regular soda is better than the light stuff, especially when you consider the actual risks of the aspartame used in diet drinks.
And as for you bringing up my college degree like it's somehow an issue? Honestly, that sounds more like a "you" problem!
Basically: 1. It doesn't make you gain weight as much as regular stuff does—so, no. But it’s actually worse for your body than the real deal because of all those artificial sweeteners like aspartame and cyclamate.
2. Just stick to the regular version.
🙂
So that's your final verdict, huh?
I think there are a few of us in this thread who see things completely differently... but since our take is based on actual chemistry and biochemistry, and you're basically just "making it up as you go," as driftinggull13 would say, I guess you're totally right...
Man, you know what most people here actually took away from everything you just wrote?
rustymoose54 said:just random gibberish about "drinking up to 4 liters a day"... honestly, even more than 2 liters of water feels like way too much already
just total nonsense, right?😉
talking about destroying your DNA structure? 😲 some absolute garbage...
and all this stuff about artificial sweeteners causing diarrhea... yeah, right.
driftinggull13 said:Ughhhhhhh, why didn't I pay more attention in high school chemistry?? Now I'm gonna look like such an idiot if I try to figure this out...🙂 🙂 😁 😉
Right? Honestly, I catch myself thinking the exact same thing sometimes, driftinggull13...
Look, here's my take on this: if someone genuinely believes that drinking Coca-Cola is going to wreck their liver, let them live in their own little world. I honestly can't talk sense into people like that.
So, I rarely even bother trying to argue, but sometimes you just can't stay quiet—like when some guy claims Coca-Cola is made from distilled water, and then argues that since drinking too much distilled water could be dangerous, obviously the soda is toxic too!
What’s honestly wild is how on topics like this, it’s always—literally ALWAYS—the same crowd, like driftinggull13, rustymoose54, darkbison81, Rachel Brooks63, and that whole gang, stepping up to try and lecture everyone else... It’s crazy how predictable we all are...
And the result? Well, damn, it’s always the exact same thing...
Usually just twice a day. One morning when I first get into the office—kind of helps wake me up—and then another one after lunch (like, say, I just whipped myself up a quick coffee). Occasionally I'll indulge in a third one after work wraps up, but I don't really go past that...

because we don't want to see some thread pop up in two months titled "I became a Bumblebee, but I totally messed up: I can't carry honey, and typing is too hard! how do I become a bee instead?"...
