I just finished watching it, and honestly? I’m not really feeling it. It would have been so much better if Bruno had actually managed to save Shmuel—then they wouldn't both have ended up meeting such a tragic end. I mean, come on, he could have grabbed some pliers, cut through that wire, and just kept Shmuel hidden in a doghouse until the Allies arrived or something. 😍
The one thing I actually liked about the movie is how it tries to show the sheer absurdity of war through the eyes of a kid. Bruno just wants to hang out and play with Shmuel, but he has no clue why that’s even an option. He’s just looking for a friend, especially since his sister has been totally brainwashed by all that extremist propaganda. 😍
