Movies you expected to be way better than they actually were

How many times have you gotten hyped for a movie—maybe from reading the synopsis or hearing someone rave about it—only to finish it and think, "Man, I expected way more than that"? Right now, two specific ones come to mind:

The TV guide listed both as "drama," but they turned out to be total garbage. 👎 Both movies were completely lacking any real drama or tension. Honestly, I just sat there yawning and thinking, "What a waste of time."

Apocalypto, Transformers, Spider-man, The Happening, Matrix, Silent Hill, Max Payne, Lord of the Rings, Children of Men, No Country for Old Men, The Great Debaters, Gran Torino. Hmm... I can't remember the rest. Million Dollar Baby. Yeah, I knew that one was garbage, but then I thought maybe I was wrong, so...

I was pretty let down by the first Spider-man because Peter and MJ didn't end up together, but the sequels actually hold up... that third one with Venom is killer 🙏

Haven't seen Transformers yet, but I've got a good feeling about them—I absolutely loved that anime

uh oh... honestly, it just depends on what kind of fan you are and how you look at movies. If you're my type of fan, you're gonna be kicking yourself for even watching this. If you're that type, but you still get a kick out of watching mindless CGI mayhem, then maybe you'll actually like it. Personally? I lost interest in the very first scene because that iconic ch-ch-ch-ch-ch sound from Transformers was missing. After that, everything else that followed just made things worse. And don't even get me started on the CGI animation—it looks like something straight out of a video game, not anything realistic. As for the second half... 😢

Max Payne, without a doubt. Total garbage, honestly. They had such an incredible game to work with, they could've actually made a decent movie, but they blew it. And don't even get me started on the rest of that list: Resident Evil, The Mummy Returns, Ghost Rider, Gamer, Blade: Trinity...

Look, Madsen is well over 50 and weighing in at over 200 pounds—plus, let’s be real, his performances haven't been anything special since Million Dollar Baby. It isn't Wahlberg's fault that the script is absolute garbage, or that the director is essentially just a Michael Bay rip-off.

I honestly can't quite put my finger on what went wrong, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised; I really don't know why I expected anything more from it than this. 🙂

Rules of the Game by Renoar. He gets so much praise, always sitting at the top of those "greatest films of all time" lists—even being cited as the premier international masterpiece... I have to admit, I don't quite grasp the hype. It isn't a total disaster, but it certainly didn't live up to my expectations.

Max Payne. Look, I wasn't exactly expecting a masterpiece here, but honestly, you should’ve expected even less from certain parts—like, what even was up with those flying fantasy sequences? Total nonsense. Plus, Wahlberg was a pretty huge miss for this role... if they'd just grabbed an actor who actually felt like he stepped out of the game, leaned harder into that gritty noir vibe, and actually showed his family getting killed right at the start—instead of having him wander around for half the movie like Tugomir while the audience has zero clue why he's even miserable—and maybe tossed in some more gunfights... I don't know, it wouldn't have been much longer, but the movie might've actually worked.

Watchmen, Terminator Salvation, and Gamer are some of the newer ones...
