It’s not better. If you actually thought it was, wouldn't someone have suggested it already? 🙂

You aren't going to fix your book and warm-up issues with FC Barcelona, if anything, it might actually make them worse 😬

Good grief, this is basically like watching Formula 1

I mean, that was probably a decent move and pretty much the only way to go, since none of the other boards supported DDR2 anyway.

You’ll probably be able to game on this CPU for quite a while still.

I’m guessing you're talking about those 95W versus 125W ratings. That’s just the TDP, which basically tells you how much power it draws and how hot it's going to run. You aren't actually getting any extra performance out of a higher TDP.

Grab a decent power supply while you're at it, because that EVC unit is total junk:

1 x AMD FX-Series X6 6300 Processor 3.5GHz, 14MB, 95W, AM3+, FD6300WMHK
1 x Gigabyte 970A-DS3P, AM3+, AMD 970 SB950, 4x DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866
1 x 4GB DDR3 (1x4GB) Kingston, 1600MHz, CL11, Value
1 x CORSAIR 430W Power Supply, CX Series 80+ Bronze, EPS12V v2.3, 80+

$676

Signed, I wouldn't waste my money on a 775 either; better to save up and grab something modern. You can snag some new Springfield processors for about $200, which are newer and way better than that old Q6600, plus they use a more recent socket...

Maybe you should've put more of that cash toward a decent GPU instead.

It’s probably better to just grab one decent card, like an NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 or something, instead of trying to make multiple weaker ones work.
Where can I buy a blue laser burner? in Hardware ·
I mean, just install Windows from a USB stick.

Don't sweat it, the -5V rail isn't coming back into play. As for the connectors, the ATX standard is still holding its own pretty well enough 😉

Maybe give the install a shot and see if it sticks; you might be able to dig up some drivers online if you're lucky.

Plus, upgrading to a new rig would definitely give you a much faster machine, so if you've got the cash, why not...

Don't sweat it, you can go ahead and use that power supply. I guess you won't really need that -5V rail anyway.

Alex Doyle90 said:Alright, thanks. If I grab that RAM, will I be able to run Windows 7 64-bit?

Look, this motherboard is pretty ancient and there aren't any official drivers for Windows 7 here:

But you could probably try; I guess Windows might just use some generic drivers built-in...

Does everything actually work without it?

I mean, there's no way for me to know anything about your power supply if you don't even know what it is. That’s probably why I suggested those 4670/5670 cards; they can handle games just fine without needing an extra power connector, plus they draw way less juice anyway.

Why bother grabbing another one? Just buy a decent one if this is total junk and call it a day.

A 4850 should run fine on a 350W PSU if it's actually high quality, I guess.

What brand and model are we talking about?

The 4850 is a beast, but I guess it's a total power hog. What kind of PSU are you running?

I'd probably look for some kind of HD4670 or 5670 first, just because they don't pull much power but still have decent performance

True, you're running DDR3. If there’s an open slot, you might as well grab another 2 or 4GB. Any random stick would probably work, I guess, but if you can find the same brand just to be safe, why not? You can always double-check the brand using CPU-Z
