It feels like a kids' movie. Her whole backstory is pretty meh, the characters lack depth, and where did all that edge go? They completely changed her vibe... they totally missed the mark on how she's supposed to be. There’s zero explanation about why she and The Joker split up, either. And honestly, what was that guy holding Black Canary hostage thinking? Claiming half the city belongs to him and he’s gonna take the rest? It makes no sense.
Isn't The Joker supposed to be the big star here? Or did he just fall into a funk too? 🤔
Anyway, I wasn't feeling it. All that chaotic energy she used to have is gone; now she’s just tacky and basic. She acts like any girl would after a breakup, instead of getting even more unhinged. She basically turned into a chicken
The circus scene was easily the most boring part—just a bunch of random people running around aimlessly...

True enough. Which woman hasn't blown up the place where she met her ex? 🤣

Patrick Williams8 said:"Forty is a tough age: you're still young enough to have desires, but old enough to realize how hard they are to fulfill."

I still find myself wanting female friends, even though I've never quite managed to build a truly close bond with another woman in my life.

I just don't get it. I meet people through various hobbies, mutual friends, or at work... and then, after a few casual coffees, they just start freezing me out. Some do it openly; others are more subtle about it.

Some women go as far as harboring such resentment that they spread ridiculous rumors about me behind my back.

Is it possible that I’m offending these women without even realizing it? Am I doing something that drives them away? Or perhaps I'm failing to do something expected of me that I simply haven't picked up on? I enter every relationship with total sincerity—open heart, no hidden agendas.

I have a daughter, and this whole situation feels even more depressing because of her. She has a mother without any girlfriends... it's sad. How am I supposed to teach her social skills when I can't even find the opportunity to practice them myself?

Communicating with men has never been an issue for me. I have great guy friends; their company is easy and enjoyable.

I was never particularly physically attractive, so could that be part of it? I've always noticed that best friends tend to look somewhat similar. Maybe that's why I never found my "tribe"?

I feel much the same way. I have acquaintances, sure, but there isn't a single one I could actually rely on.
I tend to blame my mother for it; we never really had a functional relationship.☕

It's still playing in theaters; you'll just have to wait a bit. 🙂

The movie is quite entertaining. Harley Quinn is absolutely incredible. 👍

Sandler needs to put in more work if he wants an Oscar; consider this his wake-up call to stay hungry rather than coasting on these recent roles.
He really needs to prove that this level of performance is his new baseline and something we can consistently expect from him. It feels premature to hand him an Oscar just because he finally delivered a masterclass performance. And I say that as someone who actually enjoys Sandler's work. My fear is that if he picks up the statuette now, he’ll just settle down and retire.

Let's not get carried away here. 😁 You can't even put DiCaprio and Sandler in the same conversation. If DiCaprio had to churn out twenty solid films before finally walking away with an Oscar, I find it hard to believe Sandler is going to snag a nomination just for his first decent performance.
Besides, both Banderas and DiCaprio delivered truly exceptional performances this year. Truly.

There’s a certain logic to it; I think I finally get what you meant by calling him a "loser." There is a strange sense of satisfaction in avoiding a typical happy ending—that would have been far worse—but this conclusion felt like a much-needed reality check after all that hysteria.

At least the girl got her happy ending. 😁

I don't really see it that way.

Spoiler alert:

Sure, everything was building toward something, but that ending felt cheap to me. I didn't walk away feeling like he won; if anything, it was the opposite. It just left me feeling emotionally hollow—like, is that it? All that buildup just to let it fizzle out like that. Granted, Sandler’s character isn't exactly a genius, so I suppose it's the only logical outcome, but I still expected more.

Based on the vibe, it feels like they wanted Turturra, and when that fell through, they just pivoted to Sandler.

Anyway, he’s good, and the movie just barely clears that "solid" threshold above being a total flop. It’s incredibly underdirected and messy—not in a "good" way that mirrors the protagonist's internal chaos, but just plain random at times, shifting focus to characters and subplots that are frankly forgettable. If it did that with intention, it might work; as it stands, it's just aimless. As for the score, I didn't get what they were doing with it during the watch or even now—not that I’m some music critic, so maybe I missed the point. The ending hits hard, though it drags on a bit too long after the actual punch.

Still, Sandler delivers, so he makes it worth the watch, even if my final takeaway is that I feel like I've seen this exact thing many times before, just done better—even if I can't point to specific examples.

I agree with this sentiment. It’s a decent enough film, but Movie of the Year? Not a chance. It's far too overactive and frantic for that. There isn't a single moment where the protagonist actually stops to breathe. It's just constant racing and clutter. I found it hard to believe at times. Even with Sandler doing an excellent job, I struggled to connect with the lead.

The soundtrack defies logic and doesn't fit at all. I kept wondering why they chose that specific music, and if I'm asking that question, it clearly isn't working.

Sandler is fantastic, and honestly, he’s the best part of the whole thing.
It seems you all enjoyed the ending, but I found it poor. It just didn't land. It felt overly simplistic, almost as if they realized they had ten minutes left on the reel and decided to rush through the resolution just to wrap things up. Yeah.

A pretty face is easy enough to sell, I suppose. 😁

Timothée 😍

I'm waiting for something better than a screener before I sit down to watch it. I tend to look forward to every new project from Chalamet, and Lady Bird is quite talented as well.
To be honest, neither the book nor the previous adaptations really moved me, even if Americans insist on treating that novel like one of the greatest literary works ever written—which explains why there are so many screen versions.
The President (2019) in Movies ·
Timothée Chalamet is easily the finest actor of his generation.

The film was entertaining; I enjoyed it.
Not if I drift off and have to restart from the end 😁
I’ve never been a fan of pausing a movie just to pick it up later. It breaks the immersion entirely; once you lose that flow, you aren't nearly as invested in the story as you were at the start.
If I'm short on time, I’d rather skip the movie altogether. And if it turns out to be a bore, I simply won't bother coming back to it.
Mortal Engines (2018) in Movies ·
Total garbage for fifteen-year-olds.
It’s basically Twilight, Katniss, and Mad Max mashed together. There isn't a single original idea or creative choice to be found; almost every scene reminds me of some other movie I've already seen.

I couldn't care less, honestly.
I'm not like those other folks who are out here starving for fame or trying to be "somebody."
All I want is to be better than average at whatever I end up doing.
The thing is, I haven't even figured out what that job would actually be yet.

In my experience, those two ideas rarely align. Usually, the people obsessed with being "above average" struggle to actually achieve any meaningful success or status.
But you're still young. Just remember, it’s much easier to hold a book than a shovel. ☕

If you don't have a direction right now, just learn. Put in the effort, and eventually, something you're passionate about will surface.
And if nothing does? You can always find a construction site and be the best guy on the cement mixer.
placidbadger18 said:I assume the goal is to ensure cyclists cross at the same pace as pedestrians. It prevents someone from barreling through a crosswalk at 19 miles/h, which would make them nearly invisible to drivers until it's too late.

Pointless. We’re back to driver culture again. Someone reckless isn't going to slow down just because there's a rule, whereas someone who actually knows better will be cautious by default. Personally, I’ll take the green pedestrian signal, but I usually skirt around the side rather than riding right through the middle of the zebra stripes where people are walking. There’s no way a driver won't spot you if there's already foot traffic present anyway. If they hit me, they're hitting the pedestrians too. 🤷
I respect the rules because I value my life, but certain regulations imposed on us cyclists just don't sit right with me. I suspect a lot of people break the law precisely because we’re treated like an afterthought—placed at the very bottom of the hierarchy, below cars and pedestrians, yet still expected to get where we're going quickly. Motorists own the road, pedestrians have crosswalks, and we’re left just trying to balance between the two. It all seems to come down to whoever we’re "less of a nuisance" to at any given moment.

And what is the logic behind having to dismount the bike just to use a crosswalk? It has never made any sense to me.

analogscout66 said:Thinking back on it—especially during the summer months—it’s a nightmare. You finish work, it’s a blistering 90 degrees out, you're standing at the bus stop waiting while the asphalt practically radiates heat. Finally, you step onto the bus, only to be met with the smell of people. Some lady with sweaty shoulders leans her sticky arm right against mine. The air is thick with the scent of garlic, old booze, or three-day-old sweat. I find myself wondering if I’ll actually pass out before we reach the next stop... and that’s just a 50-minute ride. Contrast that with riding my bike: some light music playing through my headphones 🧐 (just enough to hear the traffic), the wind in my hair, birds chirping—I even find myself singing along 🤣. It’s a good stretch after sitting for eight hours straight. By the time I get home, I feel like I haven't even worked. Pure bliss. 👍

👍👍👍

I feel the exact same way. I wouldn't step foot on a city bus in the summer even if they paid me. No matter how hot it gets outside, I’d much rather deal with a bit of sweat than sit there. Even if I'm riding in the sun, being on two wheels feels five times cooler than walking in the shade. And don't even get me started on the speed. Biking rules. 🙂

Kenneth Grant8 said:I spent an entire year walking to work because I was terrified of those steep hills on the way back. After twelve months of grinding through cardio, hitting the pool, and hiking, I finally worked up the nerve to get on a bike. And honestly? It’s a miracle. That hill doesn't feel nearly as daunting anymore 🙂 (for my friends in Cleveland, let's just say it's like riding from the Pyramids up to Mr. Vežica 😁). Now, I'm home in 20 minutes.
Sure, I show up at my front door soaked to the bone from sweat, but I don't really care.

I had the exact same experience. Living on a hill is brutal; there were times I actually had to get off my bike and walk the last stretch of the climb. But today, I cleared the steepest part in one go without even breaking a sweat. Once you build that baseline fitness, it sticks. 👍
I even managed to make it up to the ridge recently. I was moving at a respectable senior citizen pace of about 5.3 miles/h uphill, but for my first time, I'm pretty thrilled with the result. 🙂
