So I finally sat down to watch that movie on Saturday night... ended up nodding off a few times toward the end.
Total snooze fest.

Fracture (2007) in Movies ·
🙄
are you talking about the movie differences or just the killers?
btw I bet you've read "Jack" too.
from my experience—reading fills in those gaps movies leave wide open. makes the whole movie vibe way better.
regarding Fracture—I'm guessing you haven't read it (not that I have either)—so we're both dealing with those empty spaces we mentioned. especially with themes like this, it's hard for any movie to hit everything perfectly.

as for the characters... Hannibal Lecter is a killer who treats a victim's suffering like a gourmet meal. he basically fed off Clarice's trauma—just listening to her struggle and hearing the screams of Jack. physical or mental pain, it doesn't matter, he loves it. honestly, I can't see Crawford being anything like that...
Crawford is just a perfectionist—someone so obsessed with being right that he'll risk his own life just to prove he's flawless...

Jerry Martin19 said:not to brag or anything—but I've sat through 13 Tim Roth flicks, so I definitely know my stuff😉

all five of 'em.
just checked IMDb and saw he was in "Dark Water"—it was alright, I guess, but I honestly didn't even notice him in it.
even in Reservoir Dogs, which I saw ages ago, Michael Madsen is the one who sticks in my head... not Roth at all... though maybe that's just on me😁

anyway, @ Michelle Hall9, she mentioned Four Rooms, Pulp Fiction, and Penn in her post, and since those are the exact ones in mine, it's pretty clear she was talking about me...

Jerry Martin19 said:I mean, come on. Why wouldn't it be totally silly to compare Tim Roth to "some" Sean Penn? 😕
p.s. Stick to your first point—that "people are different, tastes vary too..." 😉

hmm, well, I was actually sticking to what was—honestly—not even obvious in my last post...
It’s not that I have some weird crush on Penn or anything—I was just reacting to the comparison for a whole other reason:
Comparing him to a heavyweight actor just feels off to me—like, sure, I might think some player from a minor league is super likable and nobody can deny his talent, but comparing him to an All-Star? It just doesn't track.
Once Roth carries a major film on his own shoulders as the lead, then maybe he'll be worthy of that comparison—until then, he's just a supporting guy.
To some people he's charming, to me he's just... there.

Michelle Hall9 said:I love it when people watch Pulp Fiction and Four Rooms and suddenly think they've mastered cinema, acting like they can judge an actor's entire career based on a couple of movies.👍

Personally, I think Sean Penn is pretty mediocre. I've seen more than two of his films, so yeah, I've reached my conclusion.

Nice one. Only thing is, I only mentioned three movies, but clearly you struggle with basic counting—which somehow doesn't stop you from lecturing everyone else about thinking they know everything, huh...
Besides, those movies were already brought up by others—I was just saying how I see Roth in them. Something you probably could've figured out without being such a know-it-all...
And as for Penn, just read the top of my post.

People are just different, tastes too...

So, the guy is totally forgettable—just a classic background extra, nothing special, totally replaceable.
He was fine in Planet of the Apes, but has anyone actually said he's the reason that movie was even watchable?

Even with him, Four Rooms is such a drag that I couldn't even finish it after three tries...

He was okay in Pulp Fiction, sure. But honestly, any other actor would've been just as good there... same goes for Rob Roy, really.

And yeah, comparing some random amateur to Sean Penn is pretty insulting, if you ask me.

Larry Cooper40 said:Anthony Hopkins is back at it again playing some genius criminal. Honestly, one Hannibal Lecter is plenty—this doesn't really bring anything new to the table.

So, besides A. Hopkins playing both roles, what actually makes these two villains similar in your eyes? Just curious since you said it's all "the same old thing."

By the way, the movie's sitting at a 7.1 on IMDb—could probably be even higher if you ask me—but either way, that's a pretty solid score.

Fracture

Anyone else catch this one?

Stumbled onto this gem while flipping through the "New Releases" section in the paper... just totally by accident...

As soon as I saw the premise, I knew it’d be good—but man, I didn't expect it to be *this* good.
Ted Crawford (A. Hopkins) kills his wife. Will Becham's (Ryan Gosling) big final job before moving on to a massive law firm in NYC is to lock Ted up—who's already signed a confession. Easy, right? Too easy... or so it seems...

Hopkins is his usual incredible self as the villain, but Ryan Gosling? Absolute standout.

It's an amazing thriller—apparently there are two different endings... honestly, I'd be cool with either one.
The movie is titled "Perfect Crime" over here in the States, but I feel like that title might actually be a sneaky little spoiler 😉

If you love thrillers, you seriously can't miss this.

really solid movie. I'd honestly written off the Western genre entirely—but man, this was such a pleasant surprise.
As for the cast? Honestly, I can't even pick between Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, or Foster. They were all just incredible.
I haven't seen the original, so I can't say if the remake tops it, but I'd definitely recommend it regardless.

btw, Jessica Nguyen85, thanks for the nod on Eastern Promises. Never heard of it before, so I, uh, grabbed a copy and just finished it. The film is 👍
