USB drive is write protected - how to fix? in IT Support ·
Have you tried using Diskpart yet? It’s always been a bit hit-or-miss for me. It's just that CMD utility that comes bundled with Windows. A quick Google search should give you the specifics.
Does WhatsApp still work on Symbian OS? in IT Support ·
Don't sweat it; you should be in the clear for the rest of the year, provided they don't push the deadline back again. There's still a massive chunk of the user base clinging to older models.
Best drawing software? in Software ·
Inkscape is actually a solid piece of software for vector illustration, and the best part is that it won't cost you a dime. If you’ve got enough patience and the willingness to put in the hours, you can honestly accomplish quite a lot with it.
Adobe Acrobat Reader in IT Support ·
I’d personally suggest checking out this PDF viewer if you need something that actually handles editing quite well, too. We put this software through its paces at a firm using it on over 50 workstations, and honestly, we never ran into a single glitch. It’s free to use, though you can grab a license if you want to unlock some of the more advanced features.
Have you tried booting the PC using some Linux live CDs yet? Just mess around a bit—surf the web, watch some movies, whatever. Then try shutting it down and let me know what happens. Honestly, I’ve got a bad feeling about the motherboard.
Outlook Express is saving too many emails in IT Support ·
Hey everyone. Just a couple of things to clear up. First off, a PST file won't just magically reappear in its original location on its own; you have to manually bring it back using the Import command. Secondly, while upgrading Outlook shouldn't cause you to lose any emails, I’ve learned the hard way that it's always best practice to back up your PST file somewhere safe before you start the upgrade. Once everything is finished and running smoothly, you can restore it following the steps mentioned at the top of this thread. If anyone finds themselves stuck or needs a hand, feel free to shoot me a private message.

My Wi-Fi is painfully slow! in IT Support ·
Look, I’m not claiming this is a silver bullet, but it might at least make diagnosing the issue a little less painful. Here’s what I’d suggest: find someone who can grab you a Linux Live CD—ideally the latest version of Ubuntu. Boot up from that and run a speed test.

If the speeds look like they’re back within a reasonable range, then we can actually start making progress...
Google Drive storage issues in IT Support ·
Nicholas Johnson8 said:I’m paying $2 a month for 100GB on Google Drive.
The dashboard clearly shows I've only used 7GB out of my 100GB limit.
However, whenever I try to use the Google Drive Windows desktop app to upload a folder containing about 80GB of files (mostly photos and videos tucked away in subfolders), it throws a "not enough storage" error at me.
Does anyone have a clue what's going on here?
By the way, I tried switching over to Amazon S3, but I can't even get through registration because I can't seem to get a verification callback... Can anyone help if they know the drill? 😃

This might sound a bit silly, but did you double-check the phone number you entered when signing up for Amazon? S3 is my go-to for primary storage, and if memory serves, during registration, an automated voice—actually quite pleasant—calls you and tells you which digits to punch into your keypad 🙂 I didn't run into any issues at all. Which type of phone are you trying to use? A landline? I actually handled mine via a landline. If you need a hand navigating S3, just shoot me a PM and we'll figure something out.
Issues receiving emails from Gmail addresses in IT Support ·

I'm honestly biting my tongue to avoid naming names here, but as we all know, I can't go there. 😢
Issues receiving emails from Gmail addresses in IT Support ·
Hey everyone,

I’m hoping someone can help me make sense of this situation. I don't have access to our mail server configuration or any of the deep technical specs that might actually be useful here, so I’ll just lay out what I know.

Here’s the deal: a while back, my company switched over to a new IT service provider, and ever since then, our email has been a total mess. Specifically, when someone sends an email from a Gmail address, it takes anywhere from two to three days to actually hit our inbox. Emails from almost every other domain arrive almost instantly—we're talking one or two minutes, tops. Before we migrated to this new infrastructure under the new provider, we never had a single issue; everything worked flawlessly for years. Just to clarify, our data center is located right here in the States, not some remote offshore location (in case that matters). So, I’m struggling to understand how it’s even possible to have such massive delays exclusively with Gmail domains. I did a little digging online, and the theories are all over the place. Some say it's a server configuration issue (I’m no expert, so take that with a grain of salt), others suggest the server's antivirus might be tripping up on something specific to Google, and some even claim Google itself is the problem and needs to fix their end. Meanwhile, our IT provider’s official stance is that this is perfectly normal. They basically told us it's fine if an email takes five days to arrive as long as it eventually gets there—as if they think the delivery method doesn't matter as long as the "mailman" eventually shows up. In their eyes, it’s not even a guarantee the mail will arrive at all, and they seem totally fine with that being part of the service.

Does anyone have any insight into what could be causing this, or is this kind of delay considered standard practice nowadays? Our entire business relies on timely communication, so this isn't just some minor inconvenience; it's a real problem.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
How do I download an entire website? in IT Support ·
If you find wget a bit too much of a headache or if it just isn't clicking for you, you might want to give http://www.webreaper.net/ a shot instead.

It’s specifically designed for exactly what you’re trying to pull off, and honestly, it comes packed with plenty of useful features.
Any recommendations for a good repair shop? in IT Support ·
If I actually knew where you were based, this would be much easier to figure out 😁 I could point you toward an incredible service, but if you’re living out in Venice, it probably isn't worth the trek all the way to Washington, D.C. 🕺
Video and audio quality: Best downloaders? in Software ·
It’s really not that complicated. You just download the file and drop it into whatever folder you want. From there, open up your command prompt, navigate to the directory where youtube-dl.exe is sitting, and type this: youtube-dl.exe [path/to/your/video/file] and it’ll automatically grab the video in the highest available quality right into your current folder. For example:

youtube-dl.exe

And that’s pretty much it...

I'm writing this mostly from memory since I don't actually run macOS, but I'm fairly certain that's the drill. If I've missed a step, feel free to shout at me, 🙂

Basically, you skip the whole headache of an actual installation process. 😁
CD/DVD drive not showing up in Windows in IT Support ·
Man, you’re sitting on a motherboard that most of us can only dream of having 😁 Tell your buddy to quit messing around with you—just head up there and throw Windows XP on it if that's what it takes 😁

I don't really have the energy to walk you through the entire installation process right now, so I'll just drop a link where everything is laid out clearly for you: KLIK. Regarding those drivers, double-check that your DVD drive isn't tucked away inside some RAID configuration (I saw that happen a lot back in the day), which might be why it's hunting for an extra driver. Honestly, I'm just speculating here since I don't have the specifics on your BIOS settings, but that feels like the likely culprit.

I'm sure someone with more mileage under their belt will chime in with a "magic bullet" solution soon enough.

Hopefully, this at least gives you a starting point. 🙂
Google Drive account hacked in IT Support ·
Are you absolutely sure those emails are actually from Apple? To be honest, I don't own a single one of their devices here in the States, yet I keep getting these "Apple" notifications about my ID being reset and all that other nonsense. Can you still log in to your Apple ID without any issues?

Could you send over a screenshot of the emails? Just make sure to hide the sensitive stuff... then we can take a look. If I remember correctly, when you first set up an Apple ID, you have to pick three security questions.

It might also be worth checking if you’ve recently installed any software that could be clashing with your keyboard shortcuts—specifically anything interfering with Alt + V. I know for a fact that Evernote has caused similar headaches in the past.

How to uninstall Linux in IT Support ·
Don't touch Linuxxxxxx 😁

Look, since you're already going all in on this... there’s really no need to move anything around. You just run a clean installation from a USB drive and call it a day. There are plenty of tutorials floating around the web if you need them.
