Hell no, obviously not... if anything, we really need to beef up the medical side of things because I’ve been hearing some pretty wild stories lately from people who actually went through it... honestly, in my book, it feels more like a medical track or maybe some kind of interdisciplinary major anyway, but hey, that's just my two cents...
Look, frozenlynx33, most of what you’re spewing is just scientifically baseless bull... When actual science doesn't back up your preconceived notions, you just pivot to "traditional" science and then try to slap the label of nutritionism on it. Nutritionism *is* a science—it's a legitimate field—but not in the way you and people like you use the term when you claim your specific version of it is "scientific." Your whole stance is nothing more than basic ideology, and just because some people have spent a few years obsessing over something doesn't make it valid, let alone rational. For instance, there are groups out there that have spent decades trying to prove the Earth is flat, or societies dedicated to the liberation of garden gnomes, or even things like... well, you get the point. So what does that prove? People have been studying diet for millennia, and lately, we have actual doctors who, unlike you, actually bother to learn about human physiology. In the States, nutrition is often taught at food science institutes where they barely touch upon actual medical science. I think I already mentioned this, but since you seem a bit slow on the uptake, let me say it again: based on your standards and everything you guys have been typing here, I haven't eaten properly my whole life, yet I've managed to go maybe 15 years without needing a single pill, and honestly, I haven't even caught a common cold or anything else. And what's that supposed to prove???? My "healthy diet"???? Give me a break and pick up an actual textbook instead of chasing that quasi-science nonsense you find on the internet.
BTW, the reason you almost never see major pharmaceutical companies doing serious research on plants and their medicinal properties anymore is simply because it isn't profitable. It's too expensive for too little return. That has absolutely nothing to do with lobbyists and everything to do with simple economic math.
placidfox55 said:LOL... that’s like saying we’re talking about a hundred pounds of iron. It doesn't matter if a hunk of metal falls on your head from a church steeple or if it's just sitting on the tracks under your feet, it’s still a hundred pounds of iron touching your body. 😂

Wait, what? Where even are you coming from there? That comparison has absolutely nothing to do with what I actually wrote, let alone how the body actually processes carbohydrates... Honestly, it feels more like a lack of understanding basic physiology mixed with way too much time spent skimming random articles on Wikipedia or some half-baked wellness blogs instead of actual peer-reviewed science. Though, I guess that analogy does fit perfectly with the level of expertise you're bringing to the table here...😉
Just kidding, Steve, don't get your feelings hurt.👋

Blah, blah, blah... *yawn*

Maybe do a little more homework on grains before jumping to conclusions.

(And just a heads up: brown sugar isn't actually any better than white sugar, it's just white sugar with some molasses dumped back into it)😁 😁 😂

It’s funny because we basically agree on almost everything else. But when it comes to grains and what they're actually made of, you’re definitely going to have to hit the books a bit more. I mean, go ahead and check the ingredient labels on a couple of brands, though if you truly believe that everything eventually just boils down to a single "glucose molecule," then reading those labels is probably a waste of your time... As I was saying, this whole thing is mostly about personal philosophy and how people choose to live their lives 🙂 🙂 🙂, rather than being rooted in actual science or an understanding of physiology—let alone chemistry.😉 😁
Shtefitza said:It's night and day... 🙄 😁

The difference is massive. Like, seriously...

1. Glucose from refined sugar—it’s osmotically active, which means it basically dehydrates your cells. You get this huge concentration of osmotically active particles all at once, pulling water out of the cell into the extracellular space, and then you just end up peeing that water out later.

That sudden dehydration irritation triggers cellular inflammation. Inflammation leads to increased oxidation, which ramps up free radical production, causing damage to various tissues, messing with DNA, and potentially even leading to malignant changes...

3) It causes an insulin spike, forcing the body to "stash" glucose as fat—basically saving it for a "rainy day" that almost never comes in modern times, so the fat just keeps accumulating.😲

4) Once that insulin spike hits and all the sugar is "cleared out," your blood sugar crashes, leaving you starving again, so you reach for the next chocolate bar or sugar cube...

5) On the other hand, glucose from whole grains is released much more slowly. You don't get that sudden cellular dehydration; instead, there's a steady release of glucose used for energy, providing just enough fuel to carry you through normal activities until your next (whole grain) meal. 🙂

Regarding all that, sugar itself isn't inherently bad, though if you overdo it, you're going to see those blood concentration spikes. If your body is functioning normally, insulin and other mechanisms neutralize that pretty quickly, and honestly, the idea that it causes such a violent crash that drags you right back to more sugar is kind of a fairy tale for kids... it doesn't happen that fast or that intensely. Look, I'm not preaching about eating unlimited amounts of sugar, but claiming it's fundamentally "harmful" is just plain nonsense.
As for whole grain flour, the only real difference is that it has a bit more cellulose than the refined stuff. Both are mostly starch anyway. It's basically the same debate as brown versus white sugar.
I think healthy eating really boils down to moderation, eating everything in balance, and obviously staying physically active. This whole obsession with "healthy" vs. "unhealthy" foods isn't really about the ingredients themselves—assuming they aren't toxic—it's more about habits, taste, and mostly just whatever lifestyle philosophy someone follows, like being a vegetarian or a vegan.
You know how the saying goes: being a vegan or a vegetarian won't necessarily make you live longer, but it will certainly feel like it's working for you...
😉
You’re absolutely right, it’s more of a philosophy than anything else... you don't really need to go looking for scientific proof there. But honestly, that whole take you had about what foods fight off the flu versus what doesn't? It feels a lot more like wishful thinking than actual science to me. I'm just saying that "for the record"... 😉

BTW, I barely eat any of the stuff you mentioned, and honestly, the last time I even touched an antibiotic was probably twenty years ago... if I can even remember that clearly. As for the flu or a common cold, I haven't been sick in maybe fifteen years. Not once. And I don't mean just a sniffle, either... I haven't been sick at all in over a decade and a half. So, does that mean I should conclude my diet is better at fighting the flu than yours? Or is that how you justify thinking your kid's health is strictly down to what they eat?
slyraven82 said:...cut out everything that weakens the immune system....

-sugar (every single kind, including all those nasty additives hiding in processed stuff)
-dairy
-white flour and anything made from it
-fruit that isn't even in season here in the States
-fruit juices
-soda

As for things to actually boost your body up (on top of everything you guys already mentioned):
-miso soup
-fish chowder
-just plain old fish in general
-whole grains (rice, barley, buckwheat, oats—definitely stick to oats if they're in flake form)
-anything green, just lightly steamed for a minute
-all kinds of root veggies, sliced into sticks and flash-fried in a bit of high-quality oil
-tempeh and tofu (soy products)
-ginger (dammit, what's the word for it in Spanish... ugh, it drives me crazy when the word just slips right out of my head!!!)

hehe, there's an "edit post" button for us old folks... GINGER!!!, holy crap, ginger, how did that just vanish from my brain!

Most importantly, Think Pink! 🙂

-and just for me: go buy more of that Ginkgo! And get the extra strength version 😁

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, give me a break here. If I could actually tell the difference in how my cells feel between glucose from pure sugar versus whole grains, I'd be set for life...😉

Hmm, yeah... regarding those chemicals, I'm pretty sure we're talking about hypochlorite, and honestly, that stuff wreaks havoc on plumbing just like the chlorine you find in backyard swimming pools.😉

Man, honestly... what a total mess, there’s just such a massive language barrier here. It’s not like anyone actually masters a second language perfectly, you know?
I mean, they’re out here speaking Mexican to shadowfalcon33 just so that shadowgardener12 can follow along... 😉

shadowgardener12 said:Oh come on, shadowfalcon33 and driftinggull13... you guys hear about some study being done out in the big wide world and suddenly you're shocked that we don't have all those answers right here! You stumble upon one single paper from somewhere and suddenly you think you've mastered all the wisdom in the universe... meanwhile, you haven't seen a damn thing of what's actually happening globally.
I honestly have no clue where you two even found such nonsense...
👍

How could I not know? It's because we live in this tiny little bubble. You clearly forgot what you wrote yourself. When someone writes as much "brilliance" as you do, it’s easy to lose track of all that supposed genius you've been spewing. This isn't just one study, it's like the tenth one by now, but hey, what does it matter, right? Even if there were 110 of them, the truly smart people would always be able to tell what's real and what's garbage... the people who actually lived in the real world, not folks from some tiny little social circle, they understand how things work... 😉 .

"along with a whole bunch of other things that just don't make any sense... maybe that's just where you're at, because it certainly isn't where I am."

So now you're back at it again, either bragging about it or whining about it... who knows anymore.🙂 🙂

shadowgardener12 said:Look, those doctors aren't exactly raking it in over at that clinic... you clearly don't get how a functioning social safety net actually operates. But hey, I get it, you’ve probably never stepped foot outside your own little bubble, so I guess it's hard to wrap your head around how things work differently than they do at your job...
I mean, honestly, doctors are supposed to be compensated enough for their expertise that they don't have to act like greedy vultures... but here you two are, acting like you haven't had quite enough out of life already, just looking for someone else to blame so you can squeeze a few extra bucks out of something neither of you has the mental capacity to actually understand or even grasp... it's just pathetic, really... 👍
Not everyone around here is just chasing a paycheck... maybe some are, but honestly, most people have enough to get by. As for actually making a decent living? Well, you're on your own there, driftinggull13... you'll have to figure out how to make that happen by watching the news or whatever else is on TV...
Look, homeopathic remedies aren't exactly handed out for free... but honestly, driftinggull13, I don't see what the big deal is... people put in the work and they make a decent living, you know... 😉Look, if you’re actually satisfied with homeopathy, then honestly, good for you... you’ve found your bliss or whatever. But as for me? I'm just going to stay skeptical while everyone else chases fairy tales... 👋

I mean, honestly, I just don't get it... we've never really stepped outside our own little social circles, have we? It’s like we’re all just stuck in these tiny bubbles, and because of that, I can't make heads or tails of anything anymore... especially not when it comes to this whole boat situation...

Honestly, our collective mental hardware just isn't wired to process these kinds of logical gymnastics... It’s wild how in the States, people will drop 200 million bucks on the homeopathy industry just because they can, purely out of this weird sense of human compassion from folks who have enough cash to make homeopathic remedies feel like pocket change. Yeah, sure, nobody's actually making a massive profit on them. I mean, at the end of the day, you're basically paying for water, which costs way more than the crystals they claim are inside...
onwards and upwards...👍 Look, just take the evidence that homeopathy hasn't been able to substantiate for the last two hundred years and run with it... maybe try keeping an open mind for the next two centuries too, if you're actually looking for proof that goes beyond a simple placebo effect... unlike us pathetic little amateurs living in tiny, envious social circles who clearly don't have the slightest clue how to navigate this massive, complicated vessel we're all sailing in...

Please, just take a look at this other brilliant masterpiece of a sentence I've put together...

You clearly just don't get how a functional social safety net actually works... but honestly, I get it, you've never really stepped foot outside your own little bubble, so I guess it’s easy to assume everything works exactly like your specific job...

Honestly, even The Onion would be too embarrassed to publish something this "logical" in their annual satire roundup...

I mean, there's absolutely zero doubt about it... homeopathy actually works, no question about it...

👍

So, are you actually bragging about that or just complaining again?
I mean, thank God those homeopathic remedies are free or whatever. Though personally, I think plain water is probably a bit cheaper than the actual remedy, assuming you take the time to pour it over some crystals and charge them up under the sun first... which isn't exactly easy work. Not that I'd know anything about it, except I do, because while I'm busy energizing my own thoughts and trying to channel them through noble gases, it's quite the workout... It’s not like I’m doing this for the cash, it's more about helping people, really. A few hundred bucks is plenty for someone acting as a doctor... provided they can cover the electric bill and the water, obviously... 😁 👋

ironowl13 said:I couldn't disagree more if I tried. That study only looked at like 300 people, which isn't much at all... personally, I know way more folks who have actually used acupuncture to drop some weight or finally kick the smoking habit... and when it comes to migraines, just massaging certain pressure points or even hitting those spots on your feet with ice water does wonders for me.😉

Look, if you find the right person to hit those pressure points for you, I'm totally convinced it can fix just about anything...😉 Though I've gotta say, I'm not so sure about that foot thing... maybe that whole ice water trick works better for women or something...

Jessica White24 said:I would honestly rather hand my money over to a homeopath than throw it into a black hole at some big-city hospital or clinic. And when you talk about demand—look, even with the practitioners I see, I have to wait weeks just to get an appointment, and there’s always a line out the door... as long as the remedies actually work for me and everyone else, I really don't care what people say about how they make their medicine or where it comes from 🙂. Besides, a full consultation costs me maybe $150-$67 including the meds, whereas if I tried paying those kinds of amounts to a mainstream doctor, I doubt they'd even let me through the front door... they usually deal with much bigger numbers, but that's for another time altogether, and frankly, people have voted with their wallets for years, which is why these folks are still around. If someone wants to go that route, more power to them... homeopathy works for me. 👋

And just wait until you try my version of things, involving crystals, gases, and everything being energized... 😉 😁 You'll never set foot in a homeopath's office again, and the best part is you don't even need an appointment. As soon as a few hundred bucks drops into the right hands, the healing begins...
So, does homeopathy actually work? in Health ·
You can take that bank account number and shove it, because I’m out here doing remote healing with nothing but pure thought... My process involves channeling through noble gases, passing through semi-precious and precious gemstones, all while getting energized by microwave radiation... If you're finally ready to cough up the cash, the least I could get is a little something for my trouble...😉

shadowgardener12 said:haha... if I could actually stay on track for once... instead of just dumping all my little fantasies onto some newly created sci-fi thread...

My doctors, who dabble in Ayurveda and homeopathy, are actually pretty solid when it comes to standard Western medicine too... they just happen to know a little bit more about the deeper stuff 😉

Paaaa, everyone loves a good hunt, even the doctors... though this whole thing about "fantasies"... well, since you're clearly prone to them—given the homeopathy talk and everything else you've said—it makes perfect sense that it all looks like pure fantasy to you. Honestly, what are all those scientists and their rigid "scientific approach" in their studies really worth compared to your doctors who supposedly "know a little more"... just a way to make a buck, right?😉
So, does homeopathy actually work? in Health ·
You’re spot on, honestly... these incredible methods work so incredibly well that even the people who actually came up with them—you know, the folks from places like China or India—spend all their time practicing them while completely tossing out mainstream medicine. And bloodletting? People were doing that for hundreds of years because, hey, what else works better? But no, modern medicine has to turn its nose up at it, ignoring centuries of perfectly fine experience just because it doesn't fit the current mold. It’s such a beautiful homeopathic principle too, you know, like treating like with like, or maybe using a specific herb to soothe a nasty wound... it’s been proven absolutely reliable in medical history...
Nah, mainstream medicine just doesn't work, it’s nothing more than a bunch of nonsense cooked up by various medical and pharmaceutical lobbies... I mean, they went through the trouble of inventing organ transplants when they could have just been sipping water poured over crystals and energized by the sun... 😉
