American Honey (2016) in Movies ·
I don't even have the energy or the desire to write about this movie—so I’m just reposting what I already said in another thread. I’ll take the first chance I get when I'm in a better headspace to actually elaborate on my thoughts, but until then;

Watching a handful of shallow idiots who think they're having a blast—amidst all that pathetic, infantile sentimentality and cheap sex—is exhausting for nearly three hours. This film is only "cool" if you consider these morons cool. The soundtrack just highlights how brainwashed everyone is... the whole thing is nothing more than abuse, and frankly, it pissed me off—a total hack job of a "masterpiece."

The movie is nothing but pretentious garbage; honestly, just a total waste of time.
After watching it, I felt like a complete idiot.

Persistence is really the defining characteristic of matter, isn't it? That non-material stuff tends to be fleeting by its very nature... though I suppose we can't apply the standard physical laws—you know, things involving mass, dimensions, and the like—directly to the psyche.
If physics represents the thesis and the psyche acts as the antithesis, then perhaps a human being is, quite simply, the synthesis. 🙂

Where exactly do you see any permanence? Matter isn't stable at all—it’s constantly shifting from one moment to the next. It ages, decays, rots, and eventually vanishes. That’s the whole point of the material universe being an illusion; it lacks substance because it lacks constancy. The only thing that actually remains constant—the only thing unchangeable—is the consciousness or presence from which all this matter arises. Are you even the same person you were when you were fifteen? Every single cell in your body replaces itself every few months. There probably isn't a single physical part of you left that connects to that teenager, yet there's this persistent feeling—this sense that you are still *you*. The issue is that we somehow mistake the eternal, unchanging reality for the fleeting, illusory mess we call matter.
