Album of the week in Music ·
It's Thursday, so let's get those suggestions rolling.
We can take up to ten ideas for the poll, so who's going first?

The Doors - The Doors (1967)

the whole album + allmusic + best live set ever

I'm throwing in another classic this time, probably one of my personal top 5 or 10. 🙂

I was gone for maybe two or three hours and look where you guys ended up. Anyway, back to the topic...

Charles Ramos4 said:Well, you’re already doing that just by making the suggestion. I mean, why on earth would I suggest an album if I wasn't standing behind it and supporting it? It seems obvious to me that those two things go hand in hand.🤷

I guess I basically agree with Charles Ramos4. Although, after a few rounds, I actually stopped voting for my own suggestions because it felt stupid. I think it's more important that we all listen to what the majority likes together, plus I'm genuinely curious to see how everyone else reacts to my picks. I'm happy either way, really.

Oh, but I totally broke that forced rule last time anyway and voted for Bruce Springsteen... because things were getting tight and I was hoping he might have a shot at tying with Led Zeppelin. I'm not sure if saying that is politically incorrect or whatever.
😁

So, I don't know. Maybe the voting rules shouldn't be quite so rigid. Honestly, it's probably best to just leave everything as it is for now. If someone wants to vote for their own suggestion or doesn't, I don't see any big deal with that.

Hey there... hey, Fass! 🙂

Looking at the organized list of albums on the first page of this thread, it’s pretty obvious that our friend Squirrel hasn't stepped up yet. We have no idea when he might show up, and honestly, this album has been sitting there waiting for a while now... so I guess I'm wondering if you'd be interested in writing the intro? You seem to know the Mountain Goats pretty well, and maybe you've got some extra time on your hands. 🕺

Also, if any other experts out there feel like jumping in and writing about this one before the scheduled album, please just let us know.

Charles Ramos4 said:It’s hardly a secret since everyone can see the view counts on every thread. Unless those views mean something else entirely?

Yeah, I mean, you can see it in the numbers, sure, but I also know from experience. I know people in real life—not necessarily from this forum—who read this stuff constantly. They’ve told me themselves. They have profiles and everything, but for some reason, they just don't feel brave enough to actually post. 🙂

Jason Mendoza said:Honestly, I’d love to see some new faces and fresh suggestions around here. It would really shake things up, so I’m all for anyone new who decides to jump in. 👍

I totally agree with this! A little fresh blood would be great... 🙂 We occasionally see new people popping up in the newly opened threads, but then they don't stick around for the other albums... which is fine, I guess. But maybe Amanda Robinson4 and I should occasionally repost the rules from the intro, or maybe write a post every Thursday to kick off the week's album suggestions. Everyone would be invited to join in... stuff like that.

I think this voting system has actually worked out pretty well. If someone just wants to vote for a single album, that's totally fine by me. Also, I don't see any real issue with having ties between three albums, especially looking at this week... all three threads had great intros. 🙂 Plus, they're already getting plenty of eyes on them considering the overall traffic on the main forum.

The other thing is that we're missing a concrete number of voters. It would be way better if we consistently had 15-20 people participating like we did in a few previous rounds, instead of hitting a max of 10. Then again, the specific album choice isn't even the biggest deal; what matters more is what analogbear40 keeps bringing up—actually jumping into the discussions within the individual threads. 🙂

I know for a fact that a lot of people are reading us, but they aren't voting or posting anything. Why that is, or how we can fix it, I honestly don't know, though maybe Puck and I could try putting something together.

I've been stuck on these lately, especially during my morning commutes.

😍
Ugh, I always end up circling back to this whenever I get into one of those manic listening moods with The Great Fire...
I actually heard they were working on some new tracks recently, and there was even a fresh session over at KEXP. 🎉

For a lesser-known act, this was my latest discovery:
😍

But seriously... when are you going to suggest them for Album of the Week? 🙂

It’s worse, maybe a little sooner.

Hey, William Foster15, glad you finally showed up! Come on, throw a suggestion my way... 🙂

Personally, I still think filigranski pločnik and Sunčana strana are the absolute peak of everything from that old era. But man, that live set is something else! I’ll never forgive myself—a few years back when I first stumbled upon it, I actually left a vinyl box set sitting right there in that little shop over in downtown Chicago. Now, the shop is gone, and honestly, it feels like finding any Azra records these days is getting pretty damn hard. 😢

It’s awesome that we have this, thanks! 🙂

I honestly don't know why he posted this specific version of the album I linked earlier; I think he was messing around with some stuff over in the Netherlands or something.

On that note, I just wanted to give our resident kung-fu master a little nudge—we're still waiting on your take regarding last week's tie-breakers, the Mountain Goats... so whenever you get a chance, just drop it. Personally, I thought that album was killer... 🙂

🙂

Charles Ramos4, I guess this is the perfect time to just put on some 'Life in the Slow Lane' a few times—it always helps save the day.

It doesn't really matter what kind of mood the guys end up in regarding the album. Whatever happens today, it'll pass... I suppose.
🙂

There isn't much point in saying anything else, because the record says it all...

The whole album was uploaded here by Johnny,

Hmm... yeah. I think it’s about time we brought in some of that gritty, raw jazz.
I've had Mingus on my mind for a while now as a suggestion...
😁

I couldn't help but vote for the Boss. I guess Herbie Hancock and Gerald Jackson48 will have to forgive me, but this album is just incredible. It's great to finally see some jazz getting some love! I was secretly hoping Bruce might tie for the top spot, though I wouldn't personally pick this as his best work.

But man... Rosalita! 🎉😍

Friday! Man, I am just over this live performance:

though the solo was actually decent... back during that first lockdown.

Thanks, I'll check them out in that order. 🙂

Ugh. 😁

Hey, Dennis Hall41, since you're hanging around, why don't you suggest something? It's pretty obvious this thread is dying out...
Album of the week in Music ·
I’m really digging The Mountain Goats right now. I've already got them on my second listen...

I've actually never listened to them myself, though I know a few people who are obsessed.
Jason White17, which albums should I start with to get into them?
🙂

And please, throw some more suggestions my way... 🍿
Album of the week in Music ·
Hey everyone, my bad... I'll have the topic up tomorrow at the latest.

Look, you guys know I don't usually drag out the intros, but I just haven't had the time. Plus, we still don't have a theme for the 60th album, and since Baribb vanished into thin air with no sign of coming back anytime soon... I guess it’s officially my job to cover Perfume Genius and his album from last year: inconnu! 🎉

So, yeah.

As for next week... everything will be back to normal on Thursday. 🙂

It’s getting worse.
