crimsonpanther8, how are you doing? How’s the new nose coming along?

The nurse at the desk told me they don't perform surgeries during that specific window, but she didn't give me a reason why. I’m scheduled to get my period the day after surgery, so it shouldn't be an issue—I won't be in pain and there isn't much blood involved anyway. Honestly, my cycles are incredibly irregular, so this timing actually worked out perfectly. It’s a relief to have the procedure set for the day before it starts; who knows how long I would have been stuck waiting if I had to time everything perfectly?

Good grief, that’s exactly why I said I already asked! Look, I realize there are rules and protocols, but I don't care about the fine print right now—I want a straight answer from my anesthesiologist. What are the actual risks if I undergo surgery while on my period? That is the specific question I am asking, and nothing else.

I’ve already brought this up in this thread, but I haven't received a "professional medical" answer yet. Here’s the deal: I’m scheduled for nose surgery in a week—that part is set in stone. But what I actually want to know is whether having my period during the procedure is allowed. If it’s a no-go, why? I assume it triggers some kind of physiological shift in the body, but how exactly does that work? And does it have any connection to anesthesia at all? I’d really appreciate it if someone with actual expertise could break this down for me.

Thanks anyway! I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

I’ve had two surgeries at a general hospital before, and the anesthesia was brutal both times. I have a septoplasty scheduled for April 3rd, and honestly, just thinking about being stuck vomiting for hours with nasal packing in makes me panic. A nurse from a different department mentioned there’s an injection specifically for nausea that I could request. Is that actually true? I haven't met with the anesthesiologist yet, so I'm looking for any info anyone can provide.

Can someone please answer?

No, I’m not headed to the hospital either—I'm right here in Cleveland. Honestly, I think it happened because I asked the nurse when she was scheduling me to make sure everything wrapped up before 1:00 PM, since that's when I need my dose. She probably just did me a favor and listened.

They told me to show up at 11, but the OP says noon. I’m going to follow the original instructions. Thanks!

She didn't tell me directly because I had already grabbed the paperwork. She just said I could look for it once I was in the room. Honestly, I have no idea if I'll be able to pull off this presentation. There are still 12 days left until then.

I’m in the same boat here. The anesthesiologist I saw during my consultation told me to just speak up once I'm actually in the OR if I want that administered. My concern is simple: will there even be a window of time to bring it up? And more importantly, what exactly are we talking about here? Thanks.
Give me a break, did the doctor even bother to examine you?? What do they think they're doing? You book an appointment and drive all that way just for them to skip the exam entirely :O That is straight-up disrespectful!
Karen Clark12 said:It’s a nasty scenario that I know is headed my way too. 😢 I'm not worried about the pain, the bleeding, or even the mess. It’s just that sickening nausea that gets me. 🙂 But look, we can handle this. We have to. 😍

Honestly, at the end of the day, I’m not afraid of anything. I've been waiting for this moment my whole life.😍
Elizabeth Brown90 said:Quick question!

If I’m booking my very first appointment with a specialist, is it fine if the referral says "Follow-up," or does it need to say something else, like "Specialist Consultation"?

Look, if it’s your first time seeing them, the referral should specify an initial consultation. For any subsequent visits, you'd call it a follow-up, but your insurance paperwork needs to show a 'new' referral to cover that second trip.
Oh, please, tell me more... I’ve still got this nasal congestion, nosebleeds, pressure in my cheeks, and a bone-dry mouth... I am just thrilled about it. :/
Man, I am so incredibly on edge now that I know it’s right around the corner!! I’m just praying to God that everything goes smoothly and that I don't end up puking for two days straight like I did during my last surgery when they took out my tonsils!
Finally got my appointment scheduled for February 11th!! Wish me luck!!!
I spent 20 days straight in the hospital during my pregnancy, and man, I completely forgot how brutal it is when someone is constantly hovering over you while you're just trying to get some shut-eye. :/
Is it even an option to ask for sleep medication in that situation?
I wouldn't dream of heading home with tampons up my nose. Honestly, if things take a turn for the worse, I’d much rather be in the hospital where they can actually handle it. That said, if everything goes smoothly, I'd want to get out of there early—not necessarily the very next day, but maybe three days sooner than the scheduled stay.

Why would they let you go the very next day?
So, how's the husband doing? Is he finally back on his feet?
