That second part of the post makes things a bit more complicated. 🙂
Just grab Hiren's Boot CD. Once you download it, burn it as an image, leave it in the drive, restart the PC, and boot from the CD. Look under the disk testing tools for your specific drive manufacturer and run a long test if there's an option.
If that passes, then... maybe try flashing the BIOS. If that doesn't fix it, I guess the only thing left is a driver issue... You could potentially try a different version, maybe an older one.
ironwolf24 said:So, here's the thing... I've got an issue that feels unique, or at least pretty rare, since I haven't seen anyone else run into this before. When the beta (build 7000) first dropped, I installed it and loved it. Not a single crash or error during those first few months. But once I moved to the final version, everything went south. After a successful install, Windows just freezes up after about 30 minutes. The cursor locks up, Ctrl+Alt+Del does nothing, the sleep key doesn't work—nothing works except a hard restart. Then, after rebooting, the same thing happens; 30 minutes later, freeze again. I've tried 10 different versions of Windows (both x64 and x32), which apparently work fine for everyone else. I'm out of ideas, so if anyone knows anything, please help... Specs: DFI Lan party DK790 FX-dark, AMD Athlon x2 5000 @ 2.6GHz, 3GB RAM, ATI Sapphire HD4830.
That usually happens when an HDD is full of bad sectors. What are your temps? Run some disk diagnostics and let me know. If it were a RAM issue, it would probably restart rather than just freeze.
PS. It might also be worth checking the capacitors on the motherboard (see if any are bulging or anything).

I threw Tiny7 on it and it runs. It's not exactly a joy to use, but whatever. 🤣 The graphics card is being difficult since there aren't any drivers, but I managed to get it working by forcing an installation of the Windows XP drivers. The install wizard claims it's the wrong version of Windows and tries to abort, but if you just point the device manager to the folder where the wizard extracted everything, it works. Audio is the same story—everything functions once you force it to behave. 🙂
It isn't exactly comfortable to work on, though. 🤮
Look, if you actually want to play games, you’re going to need a better CPU and a better GPU. Improving just one of them probably won't do much. Also, you can't put DDR3 on your current motherboard.
