(To reality, David Croft said: "Horner confirmed the stewards cleared them after replays. It was oversteer on wet so not intentional, he gained nothing and he didn't create a dangerous situation.")

Funny how Hamilton always seems to have "oversteer" every single time there's a collision... but sure, whatever.

Way to go, Pérez.

But honestly, Ferrari’s strategy deserves nothing less than an immediate firing. Leclerc didn't mess up or lose his lead because of anything he did... it was just that absolutely disastrous pit call.

And I have to ask, what’s the deal with Verstappen ignoring the racing line? Are the stewards just blind or what?...
stormybadger8 said:Nicholas Latifi is going to crash into something, and Lance Stroll will probably run someone off the road... 😁

I just hope it isn't Michael Schumacher, because at this rate, the Haas F1 Team might show up to the next race with only one car left... 😁
James Allen9 said:I’m dedicating this entire season to absolutely demolishing the myth surrounding Mick Schumacher. Look, when Kevin Magnussen steps up and grabs those points—which, let's be honest, should have been seven of them—it proves my point. Mick spent the whole year driving without any real pressure, yet even after being slightly compromised by Esteban Ocon at the start yesterday, he still couldn't find a way to score. Once McLaren and the rest of the field actually tighten things up, he’s going to be stuck in a dogfight with Lance Stroll and Nicholas Latifi just to scrap for 16th or 18th place.

Mick messed up during qualifying; he absolutely should have made it into Q3, no question about it.

Then in the race, after the safety car, his pace just completely fell off a cliff compared to everyone else because of engine issues... Aside from that, he drove a decent enough race, even if he was stuck way down in the pack for most of it.

The first race is always chaos. You really have to wait a few rounds before you can tell who is actually where. Even Fernando Alonso was written off at the start of last season, yet he ended up finishing ahead of Esteban Ocon...

Besides, look at the grid as a whole—the older, more experienced drivers seem to be adapting to the new cars much better than the younger crew. Mick is qualifying quite well and has shown steady progress throughout the season... in that regard, he's actually pretty similar to Ricciardo...

Bravo to Valtteri Bottas 🙏

Honestly, it’s just a total disaster 😢

Sebastian Vettel would probably catch a fever just thinking about having to drive that thing 😁
cosmicmoose2 said:Is it an aero issue or is the engine just total garbage?

It's the aerodynamics... they lower the car, and then during qualifying, they supposedly lift it up by two measly millimeters and suddenly everything magically works...
wiredcyclist said:This Mercedes car is an absolute joke 🤣 seriously. Just get it off the ground already...

So it’s pretty obvious they're just making excuses for the lack of pace...
Linda Peterson43 said:In my personal opinion, I think Russell is going to hit the ground running right from the start. He clearly has the talent, and while he might be lacking some experience, there is absolutely no doubt that he won't be turning out like Bottas.

And Bottas was just Walter 2.0, 3.0... we never actually saw a 4.0 version... 😁
Sam Clark75 said:I mean, when you actually crunch the numbers, it’s honestly not a bad strategy at all. 😁

Not really, if your whole goal is just playing second fiddle like Rubens or Walter...
😁
ruggedhawk20 said:It’s not that... you’re just a conservative safe-player who thinks logic dictates if he won seven titles, an eighth is a given.

That’s just a boring, risk-averse way to live. It’s probably why women don't find you particularly interesting. Maybe you offer stability, but you definitely don't offer any excitement...

Didn't realize this sub-forum migrated from forestry to F1...
ruggedhawk20 said:According to the poll, Carlos Sainz is sitting pretty in the lead

I honestly can't believe I'm the only one stuck with this gut feeling... that they'll just hand Hamilton another title on a silver platter if they get the chance
Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are genuinely top-tier drivers. I mean, looking at Leclerc's track record in the junior categories, nobody on this grid comes close to his stats... he’s in a league of his own...
The issue isn't the drivers; it's just the Ferrari strategy and the car itself...
Linda Peterson43 said:So, what are everyone's predictions regarding the Hamilton - Russell dynamic in this opening race?
I mean, I wonder if the young gun will actually have the discipline to stay out of trouble and avoid flying off at turn three during the first lap just because he's desperate to make a statement.
Or are we looking at a chaotic start with broken wings and the inevitable "George, this is James..." radio call?

My prediction through lap 10: George, Lewis is faster than you. Please confirm...
Mick clocked in at a 1.32.2. If Haas is pulling numbers like that, I seriously doubt Mercedes can't find more speed, and I wouldn't be surprised if Perez dips below 1.30...
It doesn't feel much different from last year, even though they were all making a big deal about how much slower the cars would be...
I feel like fixing brake issues is actually easier than trying to sort out this bouncing problem...
To me, Alpine looks like a dark horse waiting to strike... Alonso is staying quiet, which just feels off for him...
shadowstag10 said:We'll find out tomorrow which car they actually roll out with, but I find it pretty mind-boggling that they'd waste three whole days testing a chassis that their own simulations say is slower than the other one.

but isn't that actually pretty logical?
they show up with a backup if they get banned from using the faster model, and besides, they always pull out the quicker version at the very last second just to prove to everyone that nobody can catch them...
After three days, here’s how I’d lay it out:
1. Red Bull
2. Mercedes
3. McLaren
4. Alpine
5. Ferrari
6. AlphaTauri
7. Williams
8. Haas
9. Aston Martin
10. Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo is just such a massive disappointment... honestly, the whole team is struggling with those engines...
Gregory Brown94 said:You basically answered your own question and now you're trying to turn a monologue into a dialogue. Scrabsov is just joking around and messing with everyone, yet here you are, grasping at straws that only Hank Pym could actually fix. Unless the TVA steps in with some vremenski vrata 🤣

Just one thing, since you clearly fell for Scrabsov's trolling—which only the clueless fall for—is there any aerodynamic advantage to stripping away two wing elements from the sidepods? Even at a powerhouse track like Indianapolis, it wouldn't stand a chance...

I can't be bothered to go digging through the technical regulations bible to find the minimum allowable sidepod values. Not worth the effort...

Anyway, Alpine looks pretty much 🎉 Haas full of little surprises, since they're obviously copying Ferrari. If that concept actually works, we might see a repeat of those early hybrid era days when Ferrari was dominating and Haas was right on their heels...

Just curious, looking at this from the outside—how would you rank them in terms of aerodynamics? Who gets the edge in your book?

It's obvious some people are annoyed, but based on my very modest understanding of fluid mechanics, I’d say stop talking nonsense. Just keep going... I enjoy reading this stuff, and it's fun watching how these models evolve...
mellowtiger83 said:Even Red Bull Racing doesn't buy the idea that Mercedes-Benz intentionally used an illegal wing—mind you, we're talking about a 0.2mm difference—but of course, we have these forum geniuses here to explain it all to us.🙏

Speaking of tiny deviations, I think I remember a disqualification involving Sauber... if I'm not mistaken? I can't quite place the specific race or season, but the context feels identical...
The whole weekend felt like one giant mockery of Mercedes-Benz.
First, they rolled out with an illegal car—basically a "if we get caught, we get caught" gamble. Luckily for the rest of the civilized world, they didn't get away with it, though they still managed to dodge a bullet. Instead of the standard disqualification or starting from the pits, which is what should have happened, they got to start on the grid for the sprint race. That basically gave them an easy 25 laps to fix the mess they made the day before, leaving them with much less to deal with during the actual race. If it weren't for the fact that they exploited every single loophole imaginable to manipulate the weekend, Max Verstappen wouldn't have been overtaken for first place.
They pushed that engine to its absolute limit, and there's a good chance it won't survive all three remaining races. But then again, they don't need it to; they only need two. If they manage to win the next two with that machine, they can just bring back the engine from Mexico—which I doubt is actually broken, they're probably just saving it for the finale, assuming Max Verstappen's Honda even makes it to the checkered flag.
Lewis Hamilton’s whole "f...k them all" attitude, the constant calls to degrade him because of his race, and the way they're mocking the Brazilian flag by comparing him to little Ayrton Senna... it was disgusting to watch. It’s just bad for the sport.
Max made a mistake today when he was forced off the track, but honestly, it would be a joke if they penalized him for it, especially considering everything Lewis Hamilton has done to him all season while walking away with nothing more than ridiculous, meaningless penalties...
