Take Knut Hamsun, for instance; he was such an unabashed Hitler groupie that, on a purely personal level, I find myself classifying him as either a complete fool or a genuinely malicious individual. Yet, his novel *Growth of the Soil* remains one of the finest pieces of literature I have ever encountered, and that assessment won't change just because of his political affiliations. Similarly, Thompson is a textbook nationalist demagogue who expresses his devotion to the country through almost everything except the one thing that actually matters—paying his taxes—but that doesn't stop me from acknowledging that he has written some truly exceptional songs.

just put together a playlist of that junkie stuff already

And that goes for more than just the recent stuff. 😁

I really liked this one back in the day, even if Rogan tends to have more misses than hits.

Keith Miller30 said:Oh, absolutely, that church scene in Kingsman is easily one of the most iconic moments ever, wasn't it? I actually haven't gotten around to watching Oldboy yet; I've had it downloaded on my computer for ages, but I just can't seem to find the right time to sit down and watch it. Since IMDb gives it a 5.7, I'm thinking I might pass on it for a while longer. 🤣

He means the original version.

That little bit is what stuck with me, even though the movie itself was pretty mediocre.

Noah Roberts46 said:Honestly, after finishing House of Cards and Better Call Saul, I just can't seem to get into any more heavy drama. Even though I've had Peaky Blinders and Daredevil sitting in my download queue for ages, I just haven't found the headspace for them. I'd much rather stick to comedies lately; I just wrapped up Entourage (now we're all just waiting on that ☕ movie), and right now I'm watching Archer, which is freaking hilarious. There's just too much good stuff out there and nowhere near enough time.

And don't even get me started on the classics I've missed, like Oz or Twin Peaks—I actually started the latter a long time ago but had to drop it because life got in the way. That said, I did manage to get through The Sopranos and The Wire, and honestly, nothing else even comes close to those two. 🙏

In that case, I'd suggest checking out The League if you want comedy, Wilfred (USA) if you're into dark humor dramedies, or Rake (Australia) for a drama with some solid banter.

Anyone have any thoughts on Battle Creek or maybe Lilyhammer?

Noah Roberts46 said:IMDb is absolutely flooded with unrealistic ratings. You only have to look at Christopher Nolan’s filmography to see the problem. Look, I’ll be the first to admit I think Nolan is a solid director, but give me a break—the man shouldn't be pulling nothing under an 8.5, even when he delivers a total dud like *The Dark Knight Rises*. I have no idea how that movie manages to sit at an 8.6. When you see it ranked ahead of actual cinematic masterpieces, IMDb loses all credibility.

*The Shawshank Redemption* is a great movie, sure, but let's be honest—it’s nowhere near the greatest of all time. If you asked me about *The Godfather*, I might actually agree with that sentiment.

Are we talking cult classics or all-time greats? Because it's perfectly normal for a cult hit to have a lower score on a mass-market site than some mainstream blockbuster trash.

Pretty entertaining flick, even if most of the female characters were a bit much. Still way more exciting than those generic PG movies you see everywhere these days.

Robin Fox2 said:I never bother with Wednesdays; I usually stick to the weekends—Friday through Sunday—and that's when the crowds show up. Occasionally a theater is slammed, like it was for FF7, but most of the time it's just half-full, which is really about as much as you can hope for...

I don't frequent those indie theaters showing alternative junk, so I wouldn't know how things look over there...

And to what Amanda Evans2 was saying, if people are buying tickets last minute, it feels like you have to live at the cinema just to catch anything. I go quite often, yet even then, I average maybe once a month since the movies I actually care about aren't released that frequently; after FF, the next thing on my list is Mad Max, and that isn't for another month...

Though I did catch a trailer for a decent comedy during my last visit, so perhaps it might be worth a trip...😬

Look, I'm strictly talking about AMC Theaters. I'll book tickets if there are more than three of us just so we aren't standing in the aisle.

Eric Fox7 said:$10 is a Wednesday, so prices are usually lower then.
Personally, I can afford it, but a lot of people—the typical American average, excluding folks living in places like NYC or LA—probably can't.

I think you're totally wrong about the ticket prices. 🤷
