Walter Grant5 said:Dennis Evans6, reacting to Noah Carter24's video. You know how it goes? We aren't even talking about the same thing. This is about refugees fleeing a war, not migrants. The analogy is dead.

The video is fine, you're just mixing up your facts. If imperialist powers keep pulling this kind of crap overseas... things won't end well. Everyone is going to want to make their way to Europe. That's why we need to fix things over there first and finally establish some actual peace. But obviously, that doesn't suit the interests of the major global players at all.

Even if it were the most beautiful country on Earth, I still wouldn't set foot there. Honestly, they violate human rights on a massive scale—more than any other nation the USA tries to force its "famous democracy" upon.

And who in their right mind would actually want to go to fucking Saudi Arabia? 🤣

James Anderson5 said:A good chunk of what you're saying doesn't really hold water. First off, the number of refugees from Syria in Europe is actually pretty minor compared to the total number of refugees overall—it's worth noting for the context of this whole discussion.

http://www.mercycorps.org/articles/t...t-syria-crisis

It’s estimated that about 4 million people fled Syria, and 90% of them went to neighboring countries like Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon. Everyone here is making such a huge drama over a relatively small group of people, who were likely from a higher social class that could actually afford to pay smugglers to get to Europe. The rest are most likely folks who barely made it to the border. For instance, Turkey took in 1.6 million people while Jordan took 600,000. Only about 200,000 people made it to Europe, if that...

The reason they didn't go to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, or Oman is simply because Syria doesn't border them; instead, it borders the very countries taking in the highest numbers. On top of that, those wealthy nations haven't offered asylum, though they do provide financial aid...

Also, you're being incredibly harsh toward these refugees, calling them cowards and such. I'm not sure if you realize that the country you live in wouldn't even exist if the UN had been given the green light to use force early on to prevent the separation from America, rather than just for the first few weeks. Or if they'd been allowed to arrest all the initial political leaders right at the start, or later openly bomb Chicago and other major cities with massive consequences? Or what if we hadn't been recognized, or only partially recognized by certain countries? Or if specific regions were granted autonomy or taken over entirely? We were bombed because we decided to break away and nobody acknowledged us, which would have made us a "disruptive factor." Great powers can bring any smaller nation, like Syria, to its knees and plunge it into total chaos... and theoretically, they could have done that to us too, in which case having an M48 in your hands wouldn't have made any difference at all...

And as far as Israel and American policy goes, I can't think of any other two countries that have sparked more wars and civilian casualties over the last 50 years. I won't say American policy wasn't a much lesser evil than Russian policy toward the end of the Cold War, but that's a whole different conversation...

Massive signature.

The thing is, this isn't just their problem. This is a global crisis because it was cooked up by world powers, and it threatens everyone, not just Syria. They aren't fighting a specific nation—trying to draw parallels to our Homeland War is completely inappropriate. They are fighting terrorists; this isn't a state, it's a movement that keeps pulling more people in. And honestly, those folks in Syria have put up an incredible fight when you consider that the USA, Turkey (they’re still at it), and the rest of the crew were supporting extremists and sending them weapons until very recently (which they actually admitted themselves)—Turkey was funneling them right across the border. The war has been dragging on for about five years now; it's a miracle they've lasted this long. How can anyone claim this is only Syria's problem?

Jessica Gonzalez said:From what I can gather, there's just constant war in the Middle East, and I guess peace and stability won't return to those nations unless the people living there make it happen themselves. Historically, it seems like it’s usually young men who pay the price in blood for freedom and peace, yet these young men are running away. In my opinion, they aren't refugees or migrants; they're just cowards. It's one thing to see a column of women, children, and the elderly, like what happened back in El Paso. Those are true refugees and displaced people who definitely deserve help. But I don't really see why Europe should feel obligated to assist young men whose place is actually on the front lines.

Maybe because Europe, along with the USA, is partially responsible for those wars happening in the first place? Honestly, who in their right mind would want to live next door to those barbarians? It’s just common sense. Why should they be forced to participate in a war that was imposed on them?

Check out Eurosport if you have it on your TV.
Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) in Movies ·
It’s a bit of a slog, honestly, but thanks to the killer soundtrack and the Coen film direction being consistently top-tier, I’ll give it a passing grade. I have to admit, though, I was expecting a lot more from this one.
Entourage in Movies ·
For anyone who actually sat through the series, the movie has to be at least decent. Personally, I loved it—it hit home because I just finished binge-watching the show a few months back. I was absolutely obsessed with the drama involving Aria. 🙏

Just like someone else mentioned earlier, it felt like watching four episodes back-to-back. It was a blast, and honestly, I really hope they make another one.

Personally, I thought it was a great film.

It’s definitely one of the better ones out there, but honestly, the sheer number of incredible characters and actors is what really stands out. Even the guy playing Al Capone absolutely kills it—he’s just a phenomenal actor across the board. I can't even remember the last time a series managed to pull together such a powerhouse cast.

Anyway, obviously Dylan and Mozart don't belong in the same conversation. It’s like when I hear those hardcore rockers praising Jimmy Hendrix and Led Zeppelin to the heavens. Don't get me wrong, they're great to listen to, but comparing them to Mozart is like comparing junk food to a gourmet sundae...

Also, I’ve been watching Boardwalk Empire by Scorsese 👍. Has anyone else checked it out yet? Honestly, if Atlantic City during Prohibition and downtown Chicago don't run on the exact same principles...

The first three seasons are top-tier, especially season three where Gyp Rosetti absolutely kills it. The last two were a massive letdown for me.

vivideagle7 said:It might not crack my personal top five Coen movies, but it's still a fantastic film. Honestly, the fact that a movie this good isn't even in their top tier just speaks to how incredible their quality is overall.

What’s your top 5?

Mine are 2. The Big Lebowski, 4. Fargo, 3. No Country for Old Men, 5. Miller's Crossing, and Barton Fink.

And no, the first Rocky isn't any worse than Taxi Driver.

That’s just subjective opinion. Personally, I can't stand Blade Runner or Brazil, and I think there are plenty of films out there far superior to them. However, I get why most critics and fans rank them higher than the movies I actually find interesting—or rather, movies that I believe are objectively better.

For God's sake, people, get real. Look, I get it—Rocky is a great movie. Honestly, who didn't love it growing up? But comparing it to actual masterpieces like Network or Taxi Driver—let alone the films mentioned above—is just pure hyperbole. A little objectivity wouldn't kill anyone here. Just take a look at the scripts in those movies and compare them to the one in Rocky. Compare the acting, the direction...

The theme in Rocky is nice, sure, but it’s been chewed up and spit out a thousand times. In those other films, it isn't. Especially not in Network.

Edward Ortiz77 said:I just can't take movies like this seriously anymore. It’s hard to stay immersed when I'm constantly distracted by the "star power" on screen. Honestly, once you see Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper, it stops being about... The Godfather in this instance, and just becomes a Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper movie.

Yeah, it's an exhausting combo. I really don't see why De Niro needs to keep doing movies with that specific crowd. 🙄

briskhound2 said:Can someone please explain to me, like I'm some first-grader, why there's so much hype surrounding Taxi Driver? This Oscar stuff gets on everyone's nerves. The movie basically glorifies a complete moron—someone incredibly unstable and, frankly, obsessed with the filth of the world around him. Fine, I get it. But what's the big deal? The guy grabs a gun and kills a couple of people at the end. Happy End, suddenly, and all his mental issues vanish and he's functioning like a normal human being. I wouldn't even mind if he'd just smoked a joint at the end, but... Christ, saying Rocky won an Oscar over Taxi Driver is probably a million times overdone. Yeah, sure, the movie is simple, yeah, the lead is a bit of a simpleton, and yeah, the "messages" are about as subtle as an elephant in a greenhouse, but damn it, the movie has a much stronger impact than Taxi Driver. Or is it that old cliché—is it Sylvester Stallone vs. Robert De Niro? Does the first have to be mediocre for the second to be considered a genius?

Actually, he isn't obsessed with the filth; he despises it. There’s a massive difference. Beyond that, it's a story about a man who is completely isolated from society, totally alone. Maybe a lot of people have gone through a phase like that at some point in their lives, which is why the film resonates with them. Plus, you have Robert De Niro's top-tier acting, incredible direction, and one of the best depictions of New York City ever put to film. Even the soundtrack is brilliant. Personally, I don't see this movie being put on such a ridiculous pedestal. 🤷

I think Rocky is a great movie too, but it's still weaker than Taxi Driver and Network. Network is also a masterpiece, though as a huge fan of Taxi Driver, I truly believe it would have been more deserved if Network had been crowned the best.

The track used in this trailer is "Running Scared" by Roy Orbison. 👍

That song makes this look absolutely brilliant. 🙏
