Mistaken wire transfer/payment error in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Chris Doyle4 said:Alright, here’s the latest update on this whole mess, my company accidentally wired the funds to the wrong account—basically, they just sent it to mine by mistake. Now, look, the clerk isn't to blame here at all, so nobody is losing money out of their own pocket, but I'm still stuck in the middle of it. I had a polite little chat with my personal banker over the phone this morning, but honestly, I don't get why the bank is riding my back so hard about this. Like, why couldn't the bank just reverse the transaction themselves immediately?
So, I’m heading into the branch this Monday, and here’s the plan: I fully intend to return the half of the money that’s sitting there, but as for the other half... well, I'm still figuring that part out.

What happens if the company can't actually see my private info? What are my actual chances here—can they actually sue me or whatever else they might try?

😵

You're acting like those $0.50 funds taken by the garnishment aren't your problem.
How exactly were you planning to settle that part, regardless of the mistaken payment? 🤷

Zachary Sanders said:Yeah, that’s how things should be handled to get this sorted out. So, $500 Return the funds to the account immediately, then settle the remaining balance as agreed with the representative.

No, by law, that money has to be returned. The only way this ends well is if the clerk covers the mistake out of her own pocket to avoid suing our hero. 😁

Aha... I wonder if he’d be trying to "negotiate" like this if he’d accidentally sent the cash to some stranger who refused to give it back. 🙄

I've read some absolute gems of advice on this thread—unbelievable. 😲

I had a situation once where my former boss accidentally paid out my entire monthly salary for a month I wasn't even working there anymore. It hit my checking account the exact same day my mortgage payment cleared via autopay, which left me short on my loan installment. The bank called me that same day saying I had to come in and sign an authorization to return the funds to the employer because it was a clerical error. Of course, my first thought was—is this my fault? Screw them, they're the ones too incompetent that now I have to deal with the headache of going to the bank. 😕 But on the other hand, I knew legally that the money wasn't mine, so it didn't even cross my mind to refuse to sign. They ended up faxing it to me so I didn't have to show up.

Bottom line—you OWE the money back because legally, it isn't yours.

You can use it anywhere in the world! 🙂

Hey there!

I already posted about this above. I can't speak for other banks, but if you're dealing with Citigroup, it doesn't matter if you've got dollars in your account—they'll force every single transaction through a conversion process. You're going to get absolutely hammered on the exchange rate. 🙂

Just stick with Maestro here in the States. It’s totally fine. No issues at all. ☕

from Chase: Visa Electron is tied to your foreign currency account, while Maestro goes with your domestic one. Both are debit cards, so don't expect much luck shopping online with them. Just get a Classic card.😁

They have Classic FM and Mastercard 😁

I’ve got a question since I didn't have the patience to slog through all 200 pages. 😳

Has anyone here dealt with someone suffering from acute schizophrenia who actually believes they are God? Are people like this a danger to those around them, and is institutionalization mandatory no matter what?

Thanks.

Give me a break. We’re all acting like we’re more holy than the Pope here. I don't see any reason why we shouldn't just use every damn emoji available. 🙄 Honestly, whoever is running to the moderators to report things like :asshole: or :2up: is a total bubble boy who doesn't belong on this forum. This is why our local "entrepreneurs" are all just scammers running shady schemes where they care about profit per unit rather than volume. unknown, I’m buying something he sourced for $17 while I end up paying $83. Instead of grabbing stock for 50 and selling it to me, his sister, and his mom for 100 a pop, he just squeezes every cent out of single sales. It's the same story with those high-end boutiques in shopping malls—the managers of these "fancy" shops live in penthouses in Chicago's "Tax-Free" zone (basically the suburbs), buying high-end knockoffs for 20+€ and flipping them for over 150€.

2. Then you have the staff in smaller shops who are literally paid to sell things. For example: I walk into a Ray-Ban store on Ilica one day and there’s this woman working. First, she rolls her eyes just because I walked in to spend $500. Then, as I try on glasses, she hands them to me with total attitude and keeps rolling her eyes at every question I ask. I wouldn't even leave her enough for a coffee, let alone $500 for some sunglasses. I already messaged the managers to tell them to get their staff under control.

I'm with you 100%! I see this crap all the time, especially in high-end boutiques. The saddest part is, she probably works for $0.67, yet acts like she owns the damn place. 🙄 They should switch them all to commission-based pay, then we'll see how that goes. 😬

We live in a pathetic country where everyone wants to work as little as possible while making as much money as they can. It's a textbook example of how Yellow Cab drivers operate—just cruising around all day, picking up a few rides here and there, and ripping off customers.

They should just set decent prices, work a full day, and end up making more than they do now.

Same goes for retailers. I was looking at donut prices today $0.83 and the cashier told me they've been slammed. She said since they dropped the price, they've been moving 300 donuts a day, which she claims is five times their usual volume.

I know from experience—I’d buy two donuts every single day if they were $0.83, but I'm not about to let them rip me off with a price hike of +$1.25 per donut.

Absolutely agree. Idiots don't realize that selling donuts for $0.83 makes them $250, whereas selling them for $4 makes them $80. But how much work would it take to actually produce 300 donuts? Not happening. 🙄 Look at the owners of IKEA and H&M—they're some of the richest people in Sweden, and somehow they sell cheap stuff. 😁 You'll never root out this kind of mentality, unfortunately. I'm losing all hope for this country. 😢🙄

Just got my final paycheck from that old job I quit three months ago. 🙄

The bank made me sign some consent form just to let them process it. When I asked what would happen if I refused—since this isn't even my fault, it's on the company—the teller basically told me the money legally wasn't mine anyway and that I had to sign. 😁

Who cares about keeping USD if I've got my Maestro?

I used my Visa at Zappos while I was in the States without any issues, unknown

I was naive enough to convert a massive chunk of change from my local savings into USD before the trip, just so I wouldn't have to carry a fat wad of cash. I figured since I had a dollar account, every transaction would just pull directly from the USD balance. So, I pay for the hotel twice—everything seems fine—then I head over to a Chase Bank ATM to grab some cash. Bless them, they actually show you your balance on the screen. Well, I'm not exactly thrilled when I see I'm missing about $80 compared to what I calculated. I log into my online banking and find out my bank is converting my USD into EUR first, then charging me some insane exchange rate. I basically flushed $80 down the toilet on just two transactions. After that, I decided to stick with my old reliable Maestro card; it’s accepted everywhere and ended up being way cheaper. Honestly, if they were just pulling from my local account at a slightly higher rate (like +0.15), I could live with that—it's a tiny cost compared to this nightmare. 😠 Oh, and the ATM fee? $8.25 It's a whopping $100. Just a heads-up for anyone planning to spend anything other than USD from their foreign currency account. 🙄

I need someone who actually knows their stuff when it comes to prosthetics—things like veneers, fillings, and all that newer tech. Ideally, I'm looking for someone in the heart of Washington, D.C. central area. I really don't want to deal with being out in some far-off suburb or stuck on the outskirts of New York City. Just somewhere central and reliable.

.

I’d honestly recommend Dr. Zoran Ivasović. His practice is called Fiziodent-dva and it’s right over in the Krešimirac neighborhood. Look, I’m telling you this as someone who hasn't stepped foot in a dentist's office in twenty years because I’m absolutely terrified of them. Trust me on this one. 😁

The doc is a legend. He actually cured my dental phobia and fixed three teeth in one go. 😂

It’s not covered by Medicare, so it’s going to cost you a decent chunk of change, but trust me—it’s worth every penny. 😳

Look, is that really your only expense, or are you carrying some old debt from before? Because the way I see it, if you make a payment on, say, April 21, 2009, you’re stuck paying 5% by May 10th, and then the remaining 95% doesn't even hit until April 21, 2011.

They calculate interest on the remaining principal every three months, so by roughly $3.25 it would end up being $100. Something about this feels off. 😕

Arthur Ramirez12 said:Hardly. I'm speaking from experience. My husband and I have a joint household account; our combined income is $6,000.00 and we have an authorized overdraft of $25,000.00 (thankfully we haven't needed it yet), and I'm convinced we'd need even more if necessary. Six months ago, my individual income was $2,000.00 and I was approved for an $11,000.00 limit. So, go ahead, explain that logic to me. Apparently, I have privileges.🤣🤣🤣
In any case, I know that for slightly higher approvals, they look at everything: how long you've been a client, if you pay all your debts on time, your credit score status (never been on a blacklist, thank God)...
And from my own experience, I know that if you're perfect in every category, if things get tight, we can make an exception.👍

Probably because with $0.67, you can blow through your balance fast... giving them more chances to charge you that 12% interest. The bigger the debt, the better for them. 🤣

I also use Chase for my $20 monthly stuff—that’s basically all my perks. I stick to the mobile app, even though my banker gave me this weird look because I wouldn't use their specific mobile banking platform. It's ridiculous. Like it's not enough that we're glued to our phones 24/7 and pay all our bills through them already? 🙄

Anyway, I haven't used any of their repair services yet, so I don't know how that part works, but I'm happy with them. Mostly because you get a discount at Best Buy 😍.

Linda Reed5 said:It’s actually not true that you need to hold an account at JP Morgan Chase just to get an American Express card... You can simply walk into a branch, grab an application, attach your most recent pay stub, hand everything over to the teller, and then just wait for their decision. :-)
Diners Club is pretty much useless, if you ask me.
In my opinion, American Express is hands down the best option out there.

What makes American Express so great? 😕

By the way, Visa is the most widely accepted card globally. 😁

If you have an account at Zabiti, you've got four options:

1) Paying with a debit card for up to 12 interest-free installments—super easy to use everywhere. 👍

2) A standard Mastercard—just your basic card where the full amount hits your bill immediately.

3) A GO card, which is revolving credit, but you can choose to pay off 100%—which is fine since you can also do interest-free installments. But if you opt for 5% revolving, it gets tricky because you end up stuck in a loop. 😁

4) Visa—my personal go-to for emergencies. 🙏 You get a limit of X dollars (usually about 2x your net pay) that you have to pay back within 2 years. For example, say you buy a TV for $1.75 today; the first "installment" of 5% comes due next month, and you have to have that total $1.75 paid off after 2 years. They spread those payments out for you. (You pick between 5,000/24 or 5% of the total, whichever is higher). You decide how much to put toward the Visa account each month—you can even pay it all off at once (as long as it's at least 5%), which is better since there's no interest.

Interest on the balances for options 2, 3, and 4 is 12% 🙄 and they charge it every 3 months.
Interest on a negative checking balance is 14%. 🙄

For online shopping—use Visa 🙏! Just generate one through PayPal and you're good to go. 🙂
