If Ghandi were from around here, the Mexicans might have slaughtered him too, but at least he'd die a martyr.
Living at any cost just isn't really living.

Exactly. And that’s why some were prepared to lay down their lives against the Mexican occupation—while others were ready to stop those attackers by force, even if they believed such a thing was futile...

I find it hard to believe that someone with Cash's level of influence among those crowds can't do anything to help curb intolerance or hate directed toward The Mexican group.

Maybe that's why you don't hear that kind of stuff at a Bruce Springsteen show?
I don't think anyone was actually talking about physical violence during Cash's shows—it's more that there's often a certain type of aggression associated with right-wing circles, but the hate speech itself is definitely there.

If I gathered enough friends to joke about tearing down the Wall over some Budweisers, would Mike be considered an antisemite?

edit: next time at a Maroon 5 show, I might just start yelling about killing Americans... then we'll see what you think of Gibby.

If the world had actually practiced tolerance toward Hitler, I guess we would have ended up in concentration camps by now.

Maybe different opinions can be tolerated, but violence, hate speech—which seems pretty common at Bruce Springsteen concerts—and the economic ruin caused by those self-proclaimed "patriots"? No way.

Just yesterday, during Milić's segment about Spain, there was this story about why Madrid is considered such a global hub for tolerance. Apparently, about 500 years ago, after a massive massacre of Spanish Jews occurred—not even sparing children—the Spanish king decided to have his guard execute all the locals involved in the killings. He then ordered a policy of openness toward foreigners so that, even today, people in Spain generally don't hold prejudices against outsiders unless they're breaking the law.

It seems like some sort of genetic cleansing took place, effectively removing those lower types of people so that the hatred couldn't be passed down. That might be why Madrid is such a welcoming place for expats today.

This is textbook hate speech—equating conservatives with Hitler.
Vilify someone, paint them as subhuman, and then you can justify anything. After all, a subhuman doesn't deserve humane treatment... reminds me of certain groups back in '41, '45, and '91...

Purging "genetic material" through murder...😲 isn't that exactly what Hitler used to preach?

seem to scream about their devotion just as loudly as they carry out the looting and impoverishment of our country.

So where is the tolerance?

What’s actually the difference between, say, a racist being denounced based on skin color versus a political chauvinist being denounced based on party affiliation?

Black = bad
Right-wing = bad

Where is the distinction, and where does tolerance begin?

Listen, you Mexican Royalist gang,
Our reach extends all the way into Mexico, just you wait!

Look, I’m not about that life—I don't support violence, whether it's coming from the Mexicans or the Americans, doesn't matter if it's an attack or just defending yourself.
If things get too heavy, I'd honestly rather just bail. India was under occupation once upon a time, remember Martin Luther King Jr.?

The lyrics aren't really up for debate with me... they were Mexican volunteers—we know exactly what their intentions were—and Royalists, not some random innocent civilians... or do you actually believe what that Mexican thinks—that an unarmed people can defend themselves with nothing?

How are you interpreting the "our hand will reach you" bit?
I actually took it to mean lawsuits before the International Criminal Court. Given how much we value democracy and tolerance these days. He’s a man of the law and justice...😁

Let's put it this way... someone attacks your child—war—and you just run because you're against violence...

Mahatma Gandhi isn't exactly the right comparison here... I don't recall his followers being slaughtered and their homes burned down... regardless of the casualties, that struggle was political, not a war... plus... we weren't even occupied yet; that was coming later... even they wouldn't have needed Mahatma Gandhi if they could have defended themselves against the occupation...
And ultimately, I wonder how he would have fared with the Mexicans if he tried selling them those same lines...

Patrick Wright2 said:Go on then, quote one single hateful lyric or a call to arms from Thompson's songs.
Do you even listen to Thompson?
I won't give you just one, I'll give you thirty.

Because of Ann and a goblet of wine,
I'll set the frontier on fire all the way to Knoxville.
I'll burn down two or three Mexican headquarters,
so my coming wasn't for nothing.

Thompson plays, AKs and rifles roar,
Toss a grenade, drive the gang away from the spring!
One step forward, rifle ready, everyone sings the song,
For our home, brothers, for freedom, we fight.
Listen up, Mexican volunteers and Royalist gangs,
Our hand will reach you even in Mexico!
Divine justice will catch up to you, everyone knows that,
The warriors from Chavoglav will be your judges!

Those lowly cowards are attacking,
Acting like they were actually defending villages,
Rats crawling out of their holes,
Man, look how their faces pale,
Whenever our flag waves high,
Our sacred flag.

Since the time of Christ,
New faces, but the same old scene,
Evil forces are trying their best,
To make sure we don't exist,
Antichrists and Masons,
These communists, them and us,
Spreading satanic phrases,
Just to defeat us.

We'll drive them all out by force,
I'm determined to bring peace to my Homeland,
They'll run away cursing their mothers,
For ever stepping foot in our America.

What exactly constitutes hatred within those bold verses? I fail to see what you find so objectionable...

So, you’re suggesting that both the old anthem and those aggressive songs about enemies trigger your hatred—or perhaps they don't...

Hey, Canadian...

Hey, Canadian—are you still around?
The wisdom of our forefathers...
As long as the heart beats for the people...
Their sons...

Long live the Canadian spirit...
Life... for ages...
The madness of hell's abyss... why does it loom?
Pure madness... just lightning and fire...

Let it descend upon us now, too...
The gale is tossing everything about...
The Cliff... it’s crumbling under the weight of everything...
Let the land tremble...

We remain steadfast...
A bit too much chaos... maybe?
Damn that traitor...
My own land...

And here is an excerpt from the famous The Internationale...

Strength alone offers no true gift...
The executioner remains our king... divine...😲!
Through sheer effort, one shapes everything in this world...
One should simply crush their own devil...
If only that villain would stop suffocating us...
And I thought the darkness wasn't suffocating...
Let us kindle the fire at the appropriate moment...
Even our hammer strikes with force...
|: That will be the last and...
A relentless, heavy struggle...

The Internationale...
Let it be human... :|

What exactly is the Dynamo's anthem to you? Absolute zero...

How long do you intend to dissect lyrics just to find fuel for your hatred...?

Patrick Wright2 said:Just because something isn't my cup of tea doesn't mean I'm siding with the other crowd.
I have zero patience for stupidity, whether it's coming from the left or the right.
So, my advice to you is to drop the prejudices and stop jumping to conclusions without any actual proof.

I'll burn two or three Mexican command centers down,
just to prove I didn't come here for nothing.

Look, sorry, but I'm just not about supporting slaughter, warfare, or pure savagery, regardless of who's pulling the trigger.

I don't follow your logic. What's the harm in setting fire to a few Mexican trees out in the frontier?
Do you even know what the word tree implies? It’s not just one—it's plural...😁

Where is the slaughter or the savagery in that? I assume I shouldn't have to explain where the actual war was. Or did you think we were fighting a war we forced upon ourselves? Defending ourselves with flowers, guns, or just walking away?

As far as I'm concerned, Cavoglave is perfectly fine... I stand by every single word—including the "For Home" part...

Karen Chase85 said:Johnny Cash posted that specific text on his own website, so it doesn't really matter who copied and pasted it.

So, just so you don't have to go clicking (though I bet you will), here is the exact snippet Johnny Cash published on his site:
...
...
We are witnessing yet another furious witch hunt, fueled by Democrats and their supporters who are losing their minds after an election defeat.

This time, they think they've struck gold; they "discovered" that I used to sing songs like "Dawn..." and "Jasenovac..." and such.

I am not the author of those songs, but I did sing them, which everyone knows, during a certain period all over the streets and halls of America without hiding. So, calling this a sensational discovery is honestly laughable.

Bottom line: you can't argue "if he sang it" when the man himself openly admitted that he did. His "excuse" in the text was that he sang "Jasenovac and Gradiška Stara" because the "Democrats" had taken power. I might be able to wrap my head around that primitive logic if he had sung Dawn just to spite the Democrats, but singing "Jasenovac and Gradiška Stara, that's Max's Butcher's house" and "Many Mexicans Neretva carried"...

And your point about this not being his song is, quite frankly, ridiculous. If someone were directly singing about slaughtering Americans and Slobin's butchers, I'd love to see if you'd use those same "arguments" to defend them.

Listen, you blind fools... I said it doesn't even matter whether he sang it or not...

A fellow forum member compared the Jasenovac Memorial—which, despite him performing it, isn't actually part of his official discography—to Gib's Tempera, which he actually wrote and claims as his own...

So, even though Johnny Cash sang "Jasenovac"... it isn't really his...

I could even draw a picture if that helps...

Man. I don't even click on Index out of principle... so I have no idea what they're pushing now... but whether he sang it or not isn't really the point—it's that he didn't write it, nor is it a song he actually performs officially...

No, you're just too blinded by your own bias to see it... you've already built this narrative in your head and you're just cherry-picking details to back it up... instead of actually questioning things properly...

I can't help myself, I have to add one more thing: Index and "the truth"... it's a perfect recipe for abandoning common sense altogether...

All I meant to say is that it isn't strictly true that he's completely removed from politics—even party politics, for that matter (which, honestly, I don't see as being a problem at all).

And this goes without saying... of course he has every right to align himself with whoever he chooses (within the law) for whatever reason—be it conviction, money, or love... that part isn't up for debate at all... let's just not have people pretending he's operating outside of any political sphere...

Hmmmm, perhaps he actually *is* above the fray today, seeing how those "changes" turned out......

steeltiger5 said:1) Johnny Cash used to sing about the Jasenovac Memorial and similar topics; I actually saw him admit this in an interview posted on his own website, where he explained that those songs were born out of the difficult era under the communist rule of the Democratic Party.
The bottom line is this: there is absolutely no universe in which Eagles would ever resort to such radical methods of expression or confrontation.
2) To be clear, I wasn't suggesting that people who criticize Eagles' music are bad people—rather, my issue is with those who attack his character and drag him into such primitive, petty squabbles. As for the comparison with David Byrne, that's purely subjective; personally, I don't consider him to be a greater musician than Eagles.

For what it's worth, I have nothing against Johnny Cash and find myself listening to him quite often, but one must understand where everyone belongs.

To avoid drifting further off-topic, let's get back to...

steeltiger5 said:yeah, when I listen to Johnny Cash's 'Auschwitz' and Eagles' 'Tempera', I really don't see a fundamental difference—both are sick, fascist songs🤦

Thanks to the moderators for moving this thread to the 'Mad House'.

You talk about the Jasenovac Memorial as if he wrote it or it's his official anthem, which it isn't.
And I'll say it again... implying things... I'm still standing my ground...
If he sang it somewhere... well, that's his shame...

I fail to see why anyone would bother validating those who constantly disparage him... And by that same logic, why shouldn't he be viewed as just another insecure brat for attacking anyone with a different perspective?
If I don't care for his music—and happen to trash it—that's simply a matter of musical taste... nothing more.

You dismiss MPT quite easily—even throwing jabs his way... I suspect you hold those who actually enjoy listening to him in similar regard... whether that's a point of pride or a mark of shame for you, I suppose...
You view music through the lens of politics—and in doing so, you end up categorizing every artist...

To even attempt to critique one of the greatest musicians of our time feels somewhat absurd—but if you’re asking for another name, fine—David Byrne... there are plenty more where that came from. Though, I highly doubt Gibo or Byrne will ever make it into the textbooks...

Morgan Rodriguez57 said:And I have to agree... especially when you consider that there was probably more actual democracy during those few months leading up to the first multi-party elections than there was later once the party took full control... which, if we're being honest, isn't exactly an achievement to brag about—more like something to be a bit embarrassed by... 🙂

I simply can't help myself...

I don't quite follow you... You make some valid points on certain topics—even if I don't always see eye to eye with you—but once we start discussing Reagan, you seem to lose all sense of reason and just attack him for everything...

Just a few thoughts on the subject...

I can’t help but marvel at Reagan's stature regarding most of the issues he touched upon—even if, during the war years, his tendency to push aside truces and various agreements didn't exactly win me over... Today, however, I see just how much of a statesman he truly was.

If things had gone differently—and if the decision-making had been left to me—we would have struck back at the Mexicans everywhere (and likely failed miserably)... we would have purged Racan and anyone else who dared to "negotiate" with them or those global power centers (by the way, someone like Pusić might have ended up facing a public trial in the town square, for instance)...
I suppose I’ve finally reached that stage of life—older, wiser, and significantly more peaceable (though if I had my way, I still wouldn't be able to stand Pusić)... I’m starting to realize just how much sense his politics actually made, especially considering how he managed to pull us away from those Reagan-era schemes...

It’s almost comical when people label him a dictator... Honestly, I wonder if anyone realizes just how much the public adored him back then—and we know how prone people are to inventing mythic heroes and "father figures" who can get away with anything—that he could have fired half the opposition and nothing would have happened besides some international protests...
I never quite understood why he allowed things like those fecal outbursts to happen—but then again, considering he was raised under a non-democratic regime... he possessed an incredible grasp of democracy and the necessity of letting people speak their minds, even when they were being completely disagreeable...

He was a true statesman. Even if his goal had been the entirety of the US—whether targeting D, VB, or any other nation—he would have been celebrated endlessly... whereas here, we just wait for progress... how pathetic.
