So, I figured I’d share my experience here in case anyone else ends up searching for info online.
It all started maybe two or three years ago—honestly, I can't even keep track anymore. This weird, pinkish-red patch appeared on my lower back, right near the waistband of my pants. It was just this irregular little shape, sort of a messy circle. When I asked my doctor if I should be worried, she basically brushed it off, saying it was just skin irritation from wearing tight clothes. Yeah, right.
Fast forward about two years later... I started Googling my symptoms last summer. You know how it goes—summer hits, heatwaves happen, and then you see all those news reports about melanoma. It’s that classic spiral where you're convinced you're dying of cancer. Naturally, that sent me straight to calling my doctor to demand a referral to a dermatologist. The spot wasn't really healing, though it hadn't changed shape much either, and honestly, I wasn't even sure about the color. It's on my back, so I don't stare at it every single day. The only thing I noticed was that when my skin got dry, it would kind of flake off.
I eventually went to a specialist at the hospital for a real exam, and their first thought was Bowen. If you look up my symptoms on Google, it describes stage one skin cancer perfectly. So, they sent me in for surgery—an excision—to general surgery. I had the procedure done, and the pathology report came back confirming it was basal cell carcinoma. On the bright side, they managed to get it all out during the surgery. The bad part? It could come back whenever, anywhere. Now I have to deal with regular annual checkups, self-exams, and slathering on SPF 50 constantly to hopefully catch anything early if it ever returns.
So... yeah. I could have waited years. There weren't any other symptoms, so nothing really "happened" for a long time. Honestly, working from home during the pandemic actually sped things up for me; I ended up getting a ton of routine checkups done, including this one.
Just like how the news is always hammering on about breast self-exams, I’m telling you guys: please, check your breasts, your skin, your neck, your face... just stay on top of it.
Man, there was a time when I’d binge two movies a day, easy. Now? If I manage to squeeze in one or two a week... I guess that's just life. My peak watching phase was basically all summer long—I'd probably hit three or four titles, mostly catching stuff at those outdoor movie nights in the park. But honestly, the longer the days get, the less I want to be stuck staring at a screen.
I’m looking for some recommendations for a decent family doctor or general practitioner. Ideally someone covered by Medicare and located right around Queens. I'd love someone in the area between Central Park (Vlach - Petrov) over to Branimirov, maybe somewhere between Palmotić and Harambašić.
Feel free to just shoot me a private message.
Thanks! 🙂
I'm jumping in on this one too. Honestly, if you have anyone, please just DM me. I really need a doctor close to home so I don't have to trek across the entire city when I'm running a fever.
Thanks for the advice. You're probably right—he’s trying pretty hard to push me away, but I’m just not budging. I know deep down it’s all just a reaction to everything going on. I keep telling him things will be okay when the timing is right, but honestly, I think he’s mostly just saying that to himself to escape reality. Though... I guess there's no point in 🙂 We still watch movies, binge shows, we live together, so we end up side-by-side even if we aren't actually *doing* anything together. No matter how brutal it gets, I'm staying put. I'm sacrificing myself here, and I just really hope I don't sink along with him =/
First off, I just finished reading the last two pages and man, my heart really goes out to you guys. Seeing what you’re all going through—or have dealt with—is just heavy. I’m back here because someone incredibly close to me lost their mom to illness last year. I see him spiraling into this depression because he feels totally helpless, and with the prognosis looking pretty grim, he's just pulling away from everyone, including me. I try so hard to push my own feelings aside just to be there for him, but he keeps retreating further, and I honestly feel lost on how to help. He won't even talk to me about it; he has no outlet, no way to vent, nothing. Does anyone have any actual advice? What can I do to support him while he’s trying to help her manage this disease? It doesn't help that they really only have each other; they don't have much of a support system outside of their own little bubble...
I just couldn't really get into this new album. Honestly, the first one is still my favorite—it’s just more of that chill background music you put on while you're getting stuff done, at least for me. I see they've got a tour coming up next year, though. Anyone planning on going?
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good GP somewhere between Central Park and Brooklyn? (I'm over by the midtown area). Just moved into the neighborhood and figured I should probably find someone before I actually need them.
I figured it was just a battery issue. But honestly, this thing started acting up almost immediately. I probably just got a lemon right out of the box. Does anyone have a decent link for where I can snag a cheap replacement battery? 🙂
I'll try messing around with the drivers. I thought maybe that might fix things, but laziness is winning today... actually, let me ask 😬 first.
So, this thing was acting up right from the jump, and honestly, it was a gift, so I’m pretty sure there's zero warranty left on it. I'm just wondering if this is even fixable at all.
Basically, when I'm using the laptop on battery and hit about 20%, I plug it in, but once it hits roughly 35%, it just says "plugged in, not charging." It’s stuck. No amount of resetting seems to do a damn thing. The only way it actually finishes a charge is if I shut the whole thing down, let it sit for a bit, then plug it back in and boot it up—then it finally decides to finish the job. Is there any actual solution for this mess?
2. Audio issues:
This part started happening recently, maybe like a week ago. Every single time I close the lid to put it in standby, the sound just... dies. When I "wake" it back up, there's no audio. I have to reboot the entire laptop just to get the sound working again. It's such a massive pain in the neck. Anyone know a fix for this? 🙂
Emma was honestly incredible. I really loved how much she poured herself into the role. Tom was good too, I guess, but she pretty much just stole the show from him. The further the movie went, the more I found myself digging it. Like someone else said, it just needed one little thing more to be a perfect ten.
I used to, I guess, but honestly? Not really anymore. Lately, I’ve been thinking maybe it’s finally time to get serious about actually saving some cash, probably by looking into a CD or something similar.
The first half was way more fun than the second, honestly. The second part just didn't really grab me... I don't know. It lacked that certain "kick" the beginning had, plus there wasn't much going on. Hopkins was incredible, though. And man, that suit Malkovich wore at the end? Totally nailed it. 🤣
I’ve been obsessively searching for a way to categorize these symptoms, and honestly, I feel like I finally found my tribe here. It’s been happening forever—even back in high school about ten years ago—and now that I’m finally trying to get active again and take up running, it’s right back. I get this intense, burning sensation in my lower shin that just stops me in my tracks. Even walking uphill a bit too fast triggers it. My right foot pronates pretty heavily, too. I wonder if my posture is messing things up since my arches aren't exactly flat. I'm not overweight or anything, just kind of skinny-fat, I guess.
So, what should I even do? Should I actually try to start running and see if I can find a decent pace and distance, or should I just pick up something else entirely? I get similar pains when I'm rollerblading or cycling, but running... man, running is definitely the worst.
Haha, yeah, you explained it perfectly, but... I know exactly what you mean 😁 Honestly, I just wish they were actually comfortable instead of digging into my skin while I'm wearing them. Whatever, I'll go check out Victoria's Secret. Hopefully there are sales happening downtown too, and not just at CC1 since I'm heading over that way anyway 🙂
Does anyone know where I can find some tights (not insanely pricey ones) that actually last over 100 days? I need them for girls taller than 5'7". Every single pair I've picked up lately—whether it was from H&M, C&A, or Target—has felt way too short, even when I go for the L or XL sizes. It's such a joke.
