And on all the other days, they're just pulling 6-hour shifts.

N1 isn't exactly playing fair here, they lean pretty heavily to the left, so you can bet any criticism aimed at the right side is going to be way more intense.
You also can't ignore how much influence those media outlets have, especially since BuzzFeed is basically the most visited site in the Middle East, and man, they absolutely tear into the Catholic Church there.

Look, the initial argument was that they were getting special treatment, but if you ask me, they actually get dragged through the mud by the media way more than they get any perks, though hey, that's just my take on it.

Plus, almost all the columnists are against them, even the ones over at USA Today.

I don't really bother with the New York Post, and I definitely don't watch CNN (unless it's MSNBC), though I might glance at USA Today, but honestly, I find them pretty middle-of-the-road, if you know what I mean. Even N1 is always dragging them through the mud, I think I mentioned that before.

Those ultra-right-wing rags are basically read by a tiny circle of people, I just can't wrap my head around anyone else actually picking them up. I refuse to believe it.

Man, just throw some names my way, give me a list of actual media outlets, maybe I'll find something that's totally flying under my radar right now.

I don't even bother touching those ultra-right-wing rags, you know, the ones like Breitbart or whatever else they call themselves these days, because honestly, it’s just an echo chamber for the far-right crowd anyway. And BuzzFeed? It’s basically just pure clickbait garbage, and if you look at Telegram, everything there is dripping with nothing but heavy sarcasm...

So, you actually spend time reading the Council Voice? 😂

Nancy Sanchez31 said:Are you trying to suggest that the clergy has some kind of special privileged status here in the States? ☕

Honestly, if you think the media has some kind of special VIP pass when it comes to the church, you’re totally dreaming, because from where I'm sitting, most of the big news outlets out there are either absolute garbage or just straight-up mocking anything even remotely related to faith.

This is all just pre-emptive political maneuvering from the ADEA crowd, honestly; they’re probably just out there trying to score some easy points with the faithful.

So, I’m sitting here reading this, and apparently they’ve banned shops from opening on Sundays just to try and keep people from moving around too much. But then you look at the churches—they’re staying open on Sundays, right? Doesn't that basically encourage the exact same kind of mobility they're trying to stop?
Look, I’m not out here trying to bash priests or anything, that’s pretty obvious, but the task force is honestly just making fools out of us at this point.

It won't be long before everyone starts absolutely tearing them apart, and honestly, you can already see it coming on the horizon.

Man, wiredrider9, you could've totally scored with someone working at City Hall instead of just some cashier, I don't know what you were thinking

You could've been rolling with a local government worker and basically living large on her lunch money every single day

It’s just one of those things, you know? When you're young, you're out here chasing after the high-powered officials, but once you get a little older, you realize you probably should've just settled down with the girl behind the register😂

Maybe we should just go ahead and write it into the federal law that commentators and security guards are legally required to hit on the cashiers at the grocery store🤷

It’ll be two, but specifically in the morning, since he mentioned earlier that working until 2 PM on Sunday is fine, which means the games are kicking off at 11 AM.

I honestly don't get this whole obsession with retail workers and Sundays, I really don't. I'd actually love to see some data showing what percentage of people working on a Sunday are just stuck behind a cash register.

Banning work on Sundays is basically just stripping people of their right to earn a living. If you don't see it that way yet, man, you're probably just young and you'll figure it out as you get older.

I spent a huge chunk of my life living in places where almost everything stays open 24/7, and honestly, it’s such an incredible commodity for consumers, but more importantly, it means way higher employment rates. When a shop runs 24 hours a day, they’re essentially hiring 30% more staff compared to a place that just operates from 6 AM to 10 PM.

When you have an economy running at that kind of employment level, unemployment practically ceases to exist.
And once you hit that point where there's zero unemployment and a massive labor shortage, things change—like, if someone working the graveyard shift at a local grocery store isn't happy, they can literally find a new job in a single day.
They could jump through twenty different jobs in a month if they wanted to.
And I'm telling you, this isn't just some theory; I've seen it happen with my own eyes. In an economy like that, businesses struggle to find workers, which forces them to offer higher wages and a mountain of benefits just to keep good people around. It ultimately leads to better status for the workers themselves.

But when the government steps in and restricts Sunday work, all it does is trigger layoffs, drive up unemployment, and make the people who *are* employed feel way more terrified and dependent on their jobs. Because if they lose their gig, there’s nowhere else for them to go.

So yeah, this is how laws that claim to protect worker rights actually end up hurting them in practice. If you don't believe me, go do some research; everything is out there online if you actually bother to look.

wiredrider9 said:Oh please, spare me the cliché nonsense.

Look, you’re just throwing out empty platitudes left and right, man, honestly just talking in circles without providing a single shred of actual data or anything concrete, and I'm pretty sure you just want to ban Sunday work so you can go hang out and make out with your girlfriend since she's got the day off, so come on, give me a break.

Just because Mike Tyson can take a hit from George Foreman doesn't mean you can handle that same kind of punch.

bluebison47 said:Fine, maybe, but I don't think individual retail stores see that kind of peak... or at least, nothing nearly as dramatic as what happens at the massive shopping malls.

So what you're saying is this law would basically just put a squeeze on grocery stores?

darkseal9 said:It’s wild how even with all this crazy tech progress, people actually have to work harder than ever these days.

But honestly, that’s just two sides of the same coin, which is consumerism.

I mean, if you lived a life where you were only ever trying to cover the bare essentials for an average American family from back in the sixties, you could probably get away with working way less than we do now.

The thing is, if everyone actually started working less and spending less—if that became the norm for more and more people—then yeah, you'd end up with massive unemployment because demand would crater, and naturally, production would have to scale back too.

But hey, those are some heavy macroeconomics topics right there, so I'll leave the deep dive to SS since that's definitely not my area of expertise.

bluebison47 said:Exactly.

In this ridiculous century we’ve found ourselves in... where everyone seems to be constantly clamoring for a four-day workweek, or shorter shifts, or heaven knows what else... I don't know. It feels like we're just moving toward total stagnation, I guess. Maybe it's progress, maybe it's just laziness, but everything feels so fractured lately. Everyone wants more time off, more flexibility, more everything... and I wonder if we even have the stamina left to actually accomplish anything meaningful when we finally sit down to work. It's all very strange.

Look, I’m telling you again, I know you're just trolling at this point, but seriously... I live out in the middle of nowhere, okay? I am surrounded by people who fix tillers and small farm equipment for a living, and let me tell you, I don't know a single soul who just decides to work on a Sunday—whether they're doing it because they feel like it or because some boss is breathing down their neck. It just doesn't happen.

I don't want to claim I have the exact statistics at my fingertips—I certainly don't—but if I had to make an educated guess, I’d say at least 75 to 80 percent of the workforce isn't getting a Sunday off. And I'm not just talking about the essential services or the odd jobs, either. I mean there are plenty of roles that could easily be handled on a Sunday, but for whatever reason, they just don't operate. It's just how things are, I suppose.

Honestly, I’m thinking Sunday is going to be the absolute peak for all those massive shopping malls, so that’s probably when we’ll see people getting handed their walking papers in droves.
And you know it’s gonna ripple out to everything else too, like the food courts, the restaurants, the movie theaters, even the local bars... everything's gonna feel the hit.

It’s looking grim.
