bluebison47 said:NYC and football were both pretty ridiculous back then.🙂 It’s exactly what you mentioned—it's solid, but you can tell the creator also did Downton Abbey; there are way too many female characters involved if this is supposed to be a series about football.🤷

And another thing that bugs me—the historical inaccuracies are everywhere. It makes zero sense; Darwen can't get knocked out of the second round of the cup by Brigg if Brigg was already eliminated in the first round, especially since Darwen itself lost to Blackburn🤷

All in all, if you don't follow football, I probably wouldn't recommend this.

I was honestly just waiting for them to reveal that Love and Fergie were actually seeing each other... because apparently, every single Netflix series needs to feature at least one gay couple that has absolutely nothing to do with the plot, just to squeeze in some steamy scenes between two guys—or occasionally, two women...

Does anyone know what kind of measures they're taking abroad to handle this situation? I heard that in Austria, employers have the right to send their staff to the unemployment office, which then pays out about 80% of their salary... though I'm not sure who handles the benefits and all that else. 🤷

It’s similar in Germany, except you only get 60% of your pay. From what I gathered from our news portals, they also provided one-time aid to companies with up to 250 employees—amounts reaching something like €30,000. That was the first relief package, if I caught that correctly.

Are there any other incentives or similar things happening in neighboring countries? Apparently, in Germany, you either stayed employed—meaning the company would take you back as soon as an opening popped up—and received 60%, or you went on unemployment and got 70% while searching for work on your own.

The fact that the ophthalmologist Li Wenliang—a genuine epidemic hero in America—died from pneumonia last week really exposes the darkest parts of the Chinese Communist Party and their desperate attempt to gaslight everyone about this whole out-of-control situation. Back on December 30, Li told his colleagues in an ESPN group chat that he was seeing patients in Wuhan who looked just like SARS cases... but just a few days later, for the "crime" of actually telling the truth, Li and seven other doctors were hauled in by the security police and forced to sign papers admitting they were "spreading lies." Even when the authorities tried to silence him, Li kept sounding the alarm through the BBC World Service, right up until he contracted the virus while caring for his patients and ended up in the ICU. He was only 34 when he passed away on February 6, and honestly, his death has completely unleashed a wave of fury across the country, sparking massive protests against the government cover-up...

Elizabeth Mendoza said:I wouldn't go as far as saying the Chinese Communist Party would mess around like that and try to cover up something this massive. You're acting like Donald Trump here; the Chinese are just playing games and lying. 🤣

You realize they covered up the first cases and then just tried to manage the fallout, right? I don't trust a single thing this regime says, and look at what happened in Hong Kong... You know they suddenly reported 15,000 cases in a single city in one day, as if by pure coincidence, right when the pressure mounted and they realized a massive scandal was brewing...

Elizabeth Mendoza said:I don't think like that at all, but honestly, this constant jumping to extremes and acting like the world is ending is getting to be a little too much.

Just play it safe. Wash your hands, use sanitizer, stay out of crowds, and avoid big gatherings. We'll get through this virus eventually. Of course there will be idiots; there always have been. You’ve got those people tanning in the sun, wandering through parks, or riding their bikes around like they're on summer vacation...

China hasn't had a single domestic case in almost a week. In a country of over a billion people, only 3,000 have died. So, what are we even talking about?

Don't just take China's word for it, especially since it seems like even they aren't entirely sure what's happening on the ground. Everything gets suppressed instantly—one minute there are cases, the next everything is "normal" again. Nobody can truly verify anything. I mean, what can you really say about a country that runs re-education camps?

A friend of mine from Thailand tells me masks are everywhere, but they're selling for $25 per 50 pieces online; meanwhile, people here can't find any masks to buy. Apparently, the government is subsidizing some shady schemes, though she couldn't quite explain how it works, just that the money disappears into thin air. When you visit those sites, you see a massive swarm of companies all charging those ridiculous prices.

Elizabeth Mendoza said:Look, if you ask me, we’ve got barely any life left to live. We're just going to spend what's remaining stuck at home. The world is heading straight for a total collapse—wars and crises with absolutely no turning back.

I didn't say that. I just meant that the whole "Just let us live our lives and work, who cares if people die, it's just the flu" attitude doesn't really hold water.
Especially while the virus is still in its early stages and nobody has any clue what happens next.

A buddy of mine calls me today acting like, "Oh, the weather is warming up, this will all blow over." He’s already prepping his vacation rentals, talking about how it'll be a crazy season with everyone showing up like walk-ins. I told him, man, you're being a massive optimist—that sounds like pure conspiracy talk. We got locked down because a few people died, and now he thinks it'll just vanish once it gets warm. When I asked him how he could be so sure, he was like, "Look, every flu disappears when the heat hits; even if winter was mild, it didn't stop the viruses, so this will disappear just like any other flu."

The guy has clearly done his math; he's convinced it'll just melt away with the sun, and nothing can stop that...

I wasn't saying we're all going extinct, I'm just seeing the logic behind everything they're doing. And honestly, it makes perfect sense to me. I'm not out here fighting politicians by claiming they're "building a police state," or that "they'll track us through our phones," or "we won't be allowed to go anywhere"... because, hey, they can't actually do much of that. Every app on your phone tracks where you go and what you do if the government wants to know. You have IDs; they know exactly who you are and where you are. You've got a smartphone in your pocket, yet some people act like they're rebels against the system (not me, obviously, but there are plenty of them around).

To me, it's logical to lock everyone down for a couple of weeks to try and suppress the spread, buying time to reorganize and figure out the next move. It keeps everyone from flooding the hospitals all at once, gives the infected staff time to recover, and lets them make strategic moves—maybe in two or three weeks, we'll actually know more about this virus.

Amanda Evans2 said:I haven't heard anything about exceptions that prove the rule.

Eh, they probably would have died from Beroš or just being overweight anyway.
Take it easy, Amanda, in the beginning, every death was considered an exception, people are always looking for excuses, and the virus has only just started its run. More than half of it is still out there circulating, let's see where this all leads...

ruggedjackal46 said:Dammit, if you started handing out non-selective layoffs to a massive chunk of people right now (we're talking 50% of the public sector?!), all you'd end up doing is creating a mountain of social welfare cases that the government would just have to deal with all over again. People are stuck in isolation, they aren't even allowed to leave their houses, and now you want to slap them with a pink slip and strip away their financial stability? Seriously, what are they supposed to live on?

Honestly, it’s better to just let public sector employees keep their jobs and keep paying their salaries. Because for those first three months, they get 100% from unemployment benefits—and trust me, that money comes from the exact same pot as their paycheck anyway—and after that, I think they still get 60% until they find a new gig. On top of that, you still have to pay out severance packages, and you're just asking for more headaches...

Paul Sanders5 said:Give me a break with all these conspiracy theories.

I’m really over this constant finger-pointing at everyone. Let me say this loud and clear—I've been saying it since day one: If you have people who actually *should* be isolating, right? Then punish them. From what I can see, the cops are out there checking if people are staying put; they can't monitor everyone 24/7, obviously, but they're doing the work.

As for everyone else? If I go visit some relatives, then:
1. I'm an idiot because I'm socializing.
2. My family are morons for not telling me, "Hey, beat it, don't come over."

It feels like we're asking way too much by expecting people to just take some damn responsibility for themselves. I keep bringing up my dad—he's in a high-risk group, 80+ years old. He went into isolation on his own; he doesn't want anyone visiting and he isn't going anywhere. He takes care of himself.

Then on the flip side, you've got people throwing parties and get-togethers. I'll ask two questions: yeah, the organizers are idiots—all five of them—but what kind of idiots are the people showing up to these parties? If someone called me to hang out right now, I wouldn't go. Not even because I'm scared of getting sick, but because it's just plain irresponsible. I don't need the government breathing down my neck to tell me that.

Well, surely it’s obvious that enforcing a total ban is easier than banking on the hope that infected people will just stay home and nobody will bother contacting them.
What if he doesn't leave his apartment? Maybe he goes for a short walk, hops on a subway, touches the handrails or the seat on the train... Or maybe he heads out for a coffee since the weather is nice.

Imagine a parallel universe where a thousand people die every single day from drunk driving. Most of the victims are elderly folks crossing the street slowly, and these drunks in their cars just plow right through them. And there are more and more of these drunk drivers on the road; you just can't control them.

So what’s your solution? You could ban the sale of alcohol. To stop the idiots from getting wasted, but look at those bastards—they'll just buy it illegally and keep driving anyway.

The next step would be to ban everyone from driving cars entirely, making public transit and permits the only way to move. And boom, you've solved those thousand deaths a day. But you won't say, "Damn, maybe they shouldn't have been walking so slow in the crosswalk."

You're just cherry-picking what fits your narrative again. Why didn't you bother comparing the situation to Germany, Australia, Canada, or Italy? Probably because the Austrians actually have some discipline, whereas this penalty is aimed at those North American types who think they're geniuses, even though they make that much money in four months anyway...

William Kim said:I just got back from Germany last week... you can say whatever you want, whenever you feel like it. Absolutely nobody asks you a single question at the airport. A colleague of mine was just coming back from Amsterdam this morning, and it was the exact same story. By the way, he was moving around Germany without any issues whatsoever.

Are you being serious right now??
I usually have you on mute, but I decided to check out what you wrote. Do you even realize you could have traveled anywhere in America last week too?

As luck would have it, I landed at a German airport yesterday, so maybe try to get a grip before you start replying to people. Nobody is questioning you. 🤣
They aren't interrogating you like you're joining ISIS; they check you over, run tests, give you a solution if you need self-isolation, and if you show symptoms, you report it.
Seriously, you have Google—maybe try using it once before jumping into an argument with such nonsense.

And are you even aware that when you travel out of the country, the destination is the one taking responsibility for you?

You still owe me that info on how long it takes to recover when symptoms are mild—you said six weeks.

While you're digging for that, maybe explain why this bothers you so much? Most countries have already rolled out quarantines, and most places are handing out even harsher penalties for violators. Is the issue with Bozinovic, the Republican Party, or the Democratic Party? Or is it just some wild conspiracy theory about the government trying to turn us into a police state full of mindless consumers? Oh wait, we've basically already been there...

This has become absolutely sick...

In Germany, it goes up to €25,000
Austria is at €5,000
South Australia is 25,000 Australian dollars ($14,480); in Queensland is 13,345 Australian dollars ($7,730) and in Victoria, 20,000 Australian dollars ($11,580).

Looks like they have their fair share of consequences too, apparently... ☕

Seriously though, everyone just needs to chill out...
