Computer science and German classes in most middle schools are honestly pretty pathetic when it comes to actual learning.

They basically just throw whoever is available at the computer lab because they can't find anyone qualified—I mean, a real tech pro wouldn't even look at a teaching job if they could make double the salary working in Silicon Valley instead.
Usually, it’s just some shop teacher who gets stuck teaching IT, or—get this—it’s like seeing a music teacher covering computer classes because they aren't making enough from their gigs and figured they might as well grab a steady paycheck at the school...

As for German, it’s an elective, so the teachers struggle to get enough hours to make it worth their while. Consequently, everyone taking it just gets handed an easy A without actually knowing a single word, just so they can coast through to the next grade. 😬

So, I run my own thing as a sole proprietor here in the States, and I’m about to hit that $250,000 threshold

Here’s the scenario I'm looking at:
Let's say my total annual revenue hits $133, which means I've officially blown past the $100 mark.

Based on how I'm seeing it:

- I'll have to register for sales tax and pay monthly or quarterly—is that basically just an advance on my year-end tax bill or what?
- Since my work falls under that "artistic services" category, I get a 25% deduction... so if we're talking $400,000, taking off 25% leaves me with $100
- Then, on top of that $250,000 baseline, I've got all my business expenses—let's say $3.25 in deductible input receipts
- That leaves $97, and since my total gross was over $360,000, am I stuck with a 36% tax rate?

So, if the annual tax is 36% of $290,000, that would mean $35...?

Am I tracking this correctly, or is there some other crazy tax rule I totally missed...

It’s pretty much the same story over here—only difference is he’s sharing way less with the family than he used to... I guess he’s just craving that privacy now.
I can't help but worry, though, because peer pressure is hitting hard lately. It feels like his friends are becoming his whole world, and sometimes those "friends" are nothing but trouble, which is where my anxiety kicks in.

Just wanted to see what other parents think about "monitoring"—though I’d actually call it transparency.

My kid is in 5th grade, and up until now, he’s been an open book—grades, school drama, friend stuff, all of it.
Our policy from day one was pretty simple: tell us everything. If something goes sideways, we’ll deal with it together. Better to catch things early, right?

But lately, since starting middle school, some kids have started messing with energy drinks, and one girl even announced she was going to buy a vape. 🤦
So far, my kid is doing great. His grades are solid and everything seems fine, except for the fact that he acts like a total know-it-all at home... but at the end of the day, he’s responsible and pulling straight As.

What’s really eating at me is that he’s hanging out with two kids who are already flagged by the school as "troublemakers."
We told him straight up—you are who you hang out with. Go ahead and be friends, that’s fine, but if I see his behavior or his grades start slipping because of them, things are going to change.

Lately, he’s been asking us not to look at his phone, locking it away, or disappearing into his room when someone calls... okay, I get it, it’s totally normal. It used to drive us crazy when our parents would eavesdrop on our conversations too. 😬
Still, I’m struggling with how much freedom an 11-year-old should really have with a smartphone without parental oversight—like, should we have access to his messages and what he’s looking at online?
I mean, I know he needs his privacy...

Quick question for you guys—my husband tested positive, so we’ve been stuck in isolation. He spends about 90% of his time holed up in his own space, mostly sleeping or eating separately, but we still have to share a bathroom... and of course, he occasionally wanders out of his room to grab something if we haven't brought him what he needs.
Our isolation period wraps up tomorrow. Me and the kids haven't shown any symptoms so far.
But today, I accidentally had some tea from his room... it’s currently day ten since his symptoms first showed up.

I recently had my insulin curve tested. I did the blood draw while fasting, then downed a glass of glucose and repeated the test two hours later.
I got the results back, but I’m totally lost on how to interpret them... so if anyone knows what's going on... please help me out.

So, at the top it says: insulin profile (0 min: ref.int. 42-188 pmol/l)
And my numbers came back as: 53.10 fasting and 210.00 after the two-hour glucose drink.

They were pulling blood from you every thirty minutes or something. Not me.
They actually told me pregnant women get their blood drawn constantly, while everyone else just gets it twice.

I still can't make heads or tails of my lab results—and I haven't even managed to swing by the doctor's office yet—but apparently, everyone in these threads is using completely different units of measurement...

A gastroscopy doesn't always have to be this massive, terrifying ordeal... I actually went to this top-tier private clinic recently that really went out of their way to make things smooth—fast, painless, and totally chill. The only catch is the price tag...
